Hi guys, im about to purchase my 1st LCDTV anytime soon. Im a bit confused as any 1st timer what to buy and what to consider before making the purchase. Il be putting the TV in our small living room, im planning to mount the TV on the wall which is around 7 - 8 FT from the sofa. is it advisable to get a 37" or a 32" only? thanks!
I am in a similiar boat. Defenitely  go with the 37 if not a 40 or 42 if you can afford it.

Ok, if the main use of the T.V would be for the PS3, then I'd go for an LCD. I have 3 plasma t.v's namely a PV8, PV80 and a PY800(FULL HD PLASMA). I game on my plasma units, but they really do have image retention - that just does not "go away" within a few mins. At times, if you play for more than 3 hours it could take hours before it clears. And I'm sorry for bringing this up but plasma units have this "green phosphor trail" when you go for fast action scenes which unfortunately involves gaming. Please check this link and if you don't mind those "green trails", a plasma will be great with those deep blacks and very accurate colors.

Link about this "green trail":

http://www.hdtvtest.co.uk/news/plasma-phosphor-trail-2007040133.htm

Btw, for long gaming runs I play on my Sammy A550 and my Tosh CV500. Both very good LCD's

Happy hunting!

went to listening in style and demoed there Pannys...all 110 volts.  many 1080P.  Watched transformers BD and they were looking REAL  GOOD!  The units ranged in price of between 80K -100K depending on size.  The dame units I saw are now on sale in the stats for black friday. price is incredible

Am preparing for more Demo fun on saturday so am reallt trying to get a beter understanding of "whats available" from  Panny USA vs. Asian .

It appears to me that the US equivalent to our Asian models are "enhanced".  Check out the Cnet take on the full line.  Its great reading and mouth watering.  They offer inividual upgrading of SPECS from the "PX" series to the "PZ" series.

I really enjoy all the posts of carlo777. Certainly is a wealth of information considering the fact that he owns several and different types of flat panel tvs. That I may say all the posts he makes here at pinoydvd are useful information worth several hundred thousand pesos for us readers. Thank you Sir Carlo for sharing.

Thank you for the compliments!

When I started out in this "hobby" I didn't know jack, hence I purchased blindly, some were good and some were less than stellar^

I'm not a fan boy and will not banter a particular brand or item be it plasma or lcd over and over again, without giving you guys the pro's and con's.

Guys like Vic of Sights and Sounds and "SUPER" "MASTER" "AV LORD" barrister are guys who were REALLY HELPFUL in making me understand that - all this affair is beyond ones pair of eyes!

What 37" LCD can you guys recommend? It'll be used as the main living room TV with a DVD player and a PS3. Is the Panasonic 37LX80 good? The only other 37" I've seen is the Samsung LN37B530, which is 15k more expensive. Is the Samsung worth the difference in price?

Thanks!

I haven't been able to see these yet, but I think the lx80 I think is an older model.  Check out the 37x10.  Its the 09 LCD from Panasonic.  Confusing lang talaga ang x10 sa because Panasonic has both plasma and lcd na x10 ang model.  But as far as I know, the 37x10 being sold by SnS and Theaterworks are both LCD's.

But then again, if your looking at the 37" of samsung, you could consider the 42lz80 which is still cheaper than the Samsung, though they say Samsung and Sony are considerably better than Panasonic LCDs.

Be wary of the 37" panels of Panasonic. I had so far had nothing but bad luck in them.  >:(

Generally, Panasonic delivers a quality product, it's just that at times we unfortunately land with a few bad eggs.

If you want to skip Panasonic, I would suggest you go FULL HD with a Samsung B530, sure it's more expensive than an LX80 but you're getting a FULL HD panel which is very good for games. Aside from that, the picture quality of the B530 is cleaner, and a faster pixel response time that will minimize blur during fast movie scenes and games.

Happy hunting.

Thinking of the 37b530 as well especially because of the big price difference with its 40" siblings at just 3" bigger.  However, since the 42lz80 is cheaper, would the improvements/advantages of the Samsung be worth the extra 2k while giving away 5"?

Any other alternatives aside from the B530 though? Still undecided at 50k, especially as I know its value will drop...

Good question and I'm curious to know the answer.

The only advantage I could think of at the moment is Samsung's "Motion Optimizer", it gives you very smooth motions bringing out a "3-D" like movement, and a somewhat "handy-cam" look. For some, it's pretty cool to look at and for others, the feature makes the movie appear unnatural.

Very true yan...For me it's a turn off...I had built up quite a good number of hours watching the Sammy 46LB650 and I find that features not to my likings..parang nanood ka ng animated or a game videos..The motions seems to be unnatural and makes the movies like a low budget film..Well that's my personal impression..Comparing it to my [email protected] delivers much good pics in movie....mas maganda lang talga sa TV/Cable broadcast ang Sammy and also its built in features is really cool..plays movie via USB..tska ang Guapo ng TV kahit nakaoff..

My vote goes to the bang for the bucks LZ80...sa movie delivery mas gusto ko to..Hopefully nd ko maranasan lang ung mga nababalitang problems ng Panny LCD's.. :-\
