would like sana to purchase a quad of the same brand, but thinking of buying a different kind... i auditioned Electro Harmonix, but i wasnt satisfied, how about JJ TESLA? how do they compare to Svet's? anyone with actual experience?

On my SE amp, I prefer the sound of the JJ over the Svetlana's, and I hate the EH.

I find the sound of the Siemens and the Mullards (if you can find them and afford to buy a quad), very, very satisfying and excellent (the best EL34s I have tried so far).

HTH.

JJ E34L some members swear by them to be better than the EL34
EH 6CA7 is another option, bigger tube
KT77 .. have not tried this, but this is also compatible with El34 types...

try the JJ KT77 (direct replacement) ..... and for sure your Svets (if they are non-winged C) will become your back-up. I previously had Mullard (new production) on my set up and after trying the KT77 .... the Mullards are now up for grabs at WS.

Maganda rin feedback ng Winged C Svets sa reviews though I haven't heard them personally.

Tried also the EH6CA7...... medyo "grainy" for my taste. Maganda lang tingnan dahil mas malaki siya sa normal EL34. Eventually sold them also.

I believe there are amps with JJ's at Hyperaudio ... you can pay them a visit. Per my brod, better than the non-winged C Svets but tinalo ng JJ KT77 when tried on his Jolida amp.

By the way .... all of the above are based on my personal subjective opinions. Bawal kumontra  ;D  (Joke!!!)

Guys,

Unfortunately, there is no local source for the JJ KT77 (as far as I know), I got mine at Martin Electronics (Burlington Square Singapore) for SGD35 each last Nov.

If you happen to be near Sucat Pque, you can hear them mounted on my AMX monos. There is a thread at WS comparing these with the Mullard (new production), and I can concur, it beats the Mullards by a long shot.

Still cant properly give feedback on the JJ KT77 as I changed my speakers recently and I'm not yet that familiar with it. But off hand, the JJ KT77 improved the gain on my volume by about 10-15%.

It is common knowledge that a KT77 may be used as an EL34 substitute. But   I did check the electrical parameters of the KT77 and its family of curves, it sure is different from the El34. I believed that to get the best of the KT77 you need to design the circuit parameters specifically for the KT77. That a KT77 will work in a EL34 schematic is true but never to its best intention. Bias points are different from EL34s and load lines are different too. Its a different tube with the same base diagram.

^^^ thanks for the info, but so far so good. i'm getting better gain from the KT77. I used to listen at 11 oclock, now i'm satisfied at 9.

offhand the KT77 sounds somewhere in between an EL34 and a 6L6. So for my purposes, it is an awesome alternative or back-up to all EL34. Lately I've been listening to alot of unplugged music. But from time to time, when I'm on patricia barber... I put in a Siemens EL34.
