You can also use hi-fi speakers but at moderate levels lang dapat. Ang mahal nung hi-fi speakers mo compared to mini-compo tapos i sasabak mo pang karaoke na malakas yung volume tapos basag pa yung kumakakanta.

ROFL  ;D

offense sustained.. but after 2am onwards with continuous supply of generoso or alfonso.

but whats with those mini comp speakers making them able to throw sound even few blocks away from ur house? is it the configuraiton of its voice coils or the diaphragm construction/materials,,etc..

though i havent dissected a compo speaker yet, i suspect they dont have crossovers..

heres my take...

The mini compo seems to sounds louder because it sounds "distorted" compared to your hifi speaker.

I can turn my Hifi System to earth shaking volumes w/o my wife complaining about the SPL... try that with your mini compo and di  pa gaano kalakas eh  sinisigawan ka na ni Kumander na hinaan mo na at ang lakas lakas ng sound at masakit na sa tenga

As to being tolerant to abuse, bottom line is the capacity of the speakers (the watts thing labeled at the back) thats counts, regardless if its a hifi speaker of a karaoke speaker

good point qguy, ive noticed that too with my sound tripping neighbor who's not into hifi. i even passed from an argument w/ him saying that his compo even sounds louder than my system. :)

Hindi ako technie pero sa pagkakaalam ko "boom" box ang mga mini compo speakers. Ma-echo sa loob unlike hi-fi speakers na may damping.

Hindi rin ako techie, pero ang alam ko, magkaiba talaga ang design ng hi fi speaker sa karaoke speaker.

Hi fi speakers are designed to deliver a flat response, which means that the speaker's sound output should be the same as the recorded input.

Karaoke speakers are designed to emphasize vocals and handle excessive inputs in the vocals' frequency range. Good for karaoke, but bad for hi fi because the design introduces coloration in the output.

Mini compo sound is not designed for flat response.  They emphasize certain frequencies that the newbies like to hear, so the coloration is usually intentional.  For marketing purposes lang yan, kasi iyon ang mas mabenta sa target market.

Most mini compos have karaoke capability, so the minis are also designed to emphasize vocals and to handle them well.

What makes mini compo speakers / karaoke speakers tolerant to vocal abuse?
Simple... They were made that way!

If a manufacturer makes speakers for karaoke, he gives PRIMARY CONSIDERATION
to the REGULAR ABUSE that his speakers is going to face being a karaoke speaker.
He ensures that the loudest 'live' microphone feeds from karaoke users will not
easily destroy sensitive components of his karaoke speakers.

The same is not true for hi-fi speakers.  Hi-fi speakers were NEVER MADE for karaoke.
The PRIMARY CONSIDERATION in their design is SOUND QUALITY. The PRIMARY USE
is PLAYBACK OF RECORDINGS where signals are much smaller than 'live' microphone
feeds.  Aiming for BOTH will result in VERY EXPENSIVE speakers.  There has to be
a compromise.  For karaoke speakers it is sound quality.  For hi-fi, tolerance to abuse.

My explaination is not technical in nature.  ;D  ;D

HIFI speakers if use in karaoke will make your voice too Good to be heard, Whereas for Karaoke speakers NOBODY will CARE or notice even if you sing out of tune. .. Coz the sound is already distorted.  ::)   ::)
