COMING SOON!!!
CINEMA ONE ORIGINALS 2007

1. Altar by Rico Maria Ilarde

Giving a different take on Philippine horror and the supernatural is Rico Maria Ilarde's Altar, a terrifying movie about a retired boxer working as a carpenter in a haunted and cursed mansion. Ilarde also helmed the films Shake Rattle and Roll 2K5, Babaeng Putik, Dugo ng Birhen, and Sa Ilalim ng Cogon.

2. Confessional by Ruel Antipuesto and musical composer Jerrold Tarog

The collaborative effort of commercial director and cinematographer Ruel Antipuesto and musical composer Jerrold Tarog, Confessional is also one of the finalists in this much-awaited movie festival. It is a dark comedy about a small-time filmmaker about to witness a life-changing confession from a retired politician.

3. Maling Akala by co-directors Veronica Velasco and Pablo Biglang-awa

Inang Yaya co-directors Veronica Velasco and Pablo Biglang-awa comes up with another beautiful story for their entry in this year's Cinema One film fest. Maling Akala is a romantic-comedy film with a twist of drama coming from the lead role's pressing homosexual issues.

4. Sa Ikawalo by Lawrence Fajardo

Fajardo makes a comeback from last year's competition. His entry Raket ni Nanay was also included in Cinemanila's Digital Lokal for that year. His new entry, Sa Ikawalo, tells the heart-wrenching story of longing and obesity: an OFW rarely seeing his daughter, and the child battling with anorexia and obesity.

5. Tambolista by Adolfo Alix Jr.

Writer and director Adolfo Alix Jr. gives us Tambolista, a raw drama about poverty, guilt and redemption.

The Third Annual Cinema One Originals Digital Movie Festival and Awards Night are set to run on September 2007.

thanks RMN! would just like to share the experience:
we were smokin'- averaging 60-100 setups a day for 6 days in pampanga for maling akala. video playback didn't work so we decided to shoot without video assist. quite liberating! skeleton crew. each one is multi-tasking. i was co-directing while P2 data wrangling, setting up video monitor and part-time driver. we were averaging 50gb of data a day (around 1 hour of footage at 720p/24fps). interior and night shoots were powered by 3 motolite maintenance free car batteries outputting 12 volts AC. off the shelf flourescent lights and a 1M candle power rechargable flashlight as backlight source...
turbulent last day! we were wrap moving to 3 locations the day it rained so hard. crew and staff rode a banca just to reach higher ground in lubao plaza...despite the setbacks we were able to drop only one sequence. swerte pa rin.
we enjoyed shooting the project. we were fortunate to have a lean and mean crew, a great and a workhorse DP (Larry Manda) and staff as well as a great pair of wonderful actors. we are currently in post-production and hopefully in at least a couple of weeks we will have a new work to share with you.

thanks keats! our hands full with the momentum created by cinemalaya and cinemanila. always hoping for valuable support from you guys! past fests have given us so much to see and talk about. just 5 new films this time but hopefully could motivate you to reserve some of your valuable time to see them.

This sucks, when in September is the festival. I'll be avoiding movies from now until the bar exams end. Sigh.

Yeah man, we gonna support this one! We need more films and festivals like this. This runs end of September right?

And besides our friend Ronald Arguelles, is behind this project.

jodi sta. maria and victor basa did very well in our project. you'll be seeing a very different jodi sta. maria in maling akala. impressive depth and maturity. very engaging performance!
we're fortunate that there are seasoned artists like jiro and jodi who are willing to devote their time and effort in small indie projects kahit way below their current talent fees yung bayad. pati na rin DPs like larry manda.
i think larry manda's work for maling akala is his best so far. the poster i designed was inspired by larry's images in the film.

Based on the trailer, it seems MALING AKALA has some intriguing twist at the end. Did you tried to squeeze heavily on the budget, telonistas?

Can you get grant outside like Cinemalaya? Your poster is awesome!

we're working with what CPI is giving us. a lot of squeezing and paki-usap. some friends and relatives offered pro bono services and use of location for free. yes we're allowed to look for additional grants but so far we're on budget.

alix's tambolistas and our maling akala had a dual press conference two saturdays ago at abs-cbn's 14th floor restaurant . major broadsheets and tabloids were represented, i think. still getting use to this showbiz rituals. there was one veteran entertainment writer who kept on addressing the beauteous jodi santamaria as juday. funny!

RMN, why not make pinoydvd(film & tv talk thread) a "legit/accredited" local online resource? it boasts of the best film critiques in town, so that you can have slots in press conferences, press previews and awards nights.

just an idea. i'm sure most of these guys would rather spend their time in the darkened cinema or bathed themselves in television/CRT/LCD light.

better ask ronald arguelles na lang about it.
