HI, I'm assuming that you are playing CD on your onkyo from time to time. if you find the music ok already... its going to be more ok with analog.... fuller vocals and sweeter mids :)

you should also check if you amp has a phono input else aside from the turntable you also need to get a phono stage. It doesn't cost much though..... lastly, to appreciate analog best, have it set up properly before using. some have been turned off after listening to a non-aligned cartridge....  happy spinning soon :)

I had the chance to listen to doc's latest setup last night.....

i'm very glad that he already found what he is looking for...... that romancing voices.  been thinking all night figuring out the right adjective.  an lambing ng mga boses, an sarap ng hagod ng strings, will bet the sax will be very soothing too. just right for those late night listening..... mas masarap yan doc kun me kalambingan ka habang nakikinig instead of mga barako gaya namin hehehehe  ;D

next upgrade.... a high sensitivity speaker  :) hook the AC to your LUX for the more dynamic mood.  ;)

tip ko doc, visit sensible audio and listen to the jadis before it gets sold..... i think un na ang next step mo. pang ROMANTIKO :) dont bother with the cjs and the ars. they are not for you.

tnx halls,

I decided on venturing into the realm of the single ended amps for the main reason that i was always in search of the smooth, soul soothing and relaxing laid back music. I have never heard this sonic quality with my previous solid state and tube hybrid amps.  Even listening to my friend's higher end non-single ended set up doest give justice to my genre of music.

This little amp really shine in this in this department although I know i have to compromise with the less detail and dynamics.  The fact that i can never turn the volume to high levels doesnt bother me since i prefer to listen at low volumes at midnight and during the wee hours of the morning.  I can always turn to my other amps if i want to hear the slam, bam, thank you mam, hehe

I am an advocate of those lazy sounding vocals and i believe i am starting to see a glimpse of what i have been searching for with this single ended magic.

My new set up is far from being ideal, the amp is actually a single ended pentode and not a single ended triode which is my ultimate goal.  The speakers are relatively low sensitivity and is not the proper match for the single ended amps.

Im still learning the ropes, making mistakes, learning in the process.... But loving it all the way....

 ;D ;D ;D

the 701 has a phono input.
Thanks!!!

nice yan, kung tube preamp and ss power combo, u must hear halls's setup, ang ganda ng set up nya, pero dapat talaga pakinggan mo kung bagay sa mga pinapakinggan mong music, depende kasi yan sa gusto mo,  :)

it will now be easier and cheaper for you to try a tt since may phonostage ka na pala, get a cheap preowned tt muna so you can try if you will like using a tt. There are sub 5k tt's in the preowned section.  Next time ka na kumuha ng mamahaling tts kapag marunong ka nang gumamit at kung gusto mo na talaga.  :)

actually I've been to halls music cave room.. ang ganda nga ng set-up nya...
yeah, you're right it should be match to my preference...
and I think it is since I'm also preferred to vocals and latino kind of music....  :) :) :)
