The last time I saw a DVD packaged in a DVD jewel case like that of Spiderman 3 Single Disc was with Gary V Music Video released by Universal Records Philippines.  Paul McCartney's latest album Memory Almost Full was also packaged in a similar case but CD size.

Looks really classy but scratch prone like most CD cases.

I almost bought the one-disc because of the packaging, but common sense won as I already own the two-disc version of Spiderman 3.  OT: If it was The Transformer's single disc, I would have buy it even if I will be getting the Steelbook and the Transforming DVD. ;)

The packaged 2008 cardboard calendar is junk, and as it is shrink wrapped into the case, already creased...

BTW, the case is similar to this (the red one):

Well, not as short as this is what I was thinking of, I used to have an Evil Dead in jewelbox but the size of a standard DVD case. Looking at the pics again, it looks like the casing of a DVD-Audio.

among the 3 installments this was the least i enjoyed.

i also got to watch this in the movie house so i was not really eager to get a copy of it but since this time around bago ang packaging, i'll definitely get one!

this will be my first dvd in jewel case  ;D (para ba sya yung nasa loob ng steel books?)

Checked my email again and I still don't have a confirmation of the preorder from pinoydvd.biz.  I ordered the 2 disc version but after reading the posts I'm more inclined to getting the jewel cased single disc release. Hmmm.....

hmmmm...this might put the 2-disc edition packaging into shame.

Geez...I am indeed disappointed with the 2-disc packaging. For the amaray casing, there's no internal artwork meaning inside the cover art it's totaly blank unlike in their previous release: Spiderman 2.1, SWAT, Ghost rider.  :(

The T-shirt can fit me but size XL would be better...  ;D

Heads up:  The Single Disc Spiderman 3 that sells for Php 595 and packaged in a stylish Super Jewel Box case is not Imported DVD but locally pressed DVD9.

Yup, was about to post that. Not that I'm against locally pressed DVD9 releases which is the bulk of what I've bought lately. If you like the jewel box cases btw, you can buy them wholesale locally at about Php25 each depending on quantity. Personally, I wouldn't recommend this type packaging because they really aren't as sturdy as Amarays.

My thoughts on your last sentence firewired. Looking at the jewel box case kind of make it unique but when I hold Spiderman Single-Disc on display, it felt like it would disassembled easily. By the way, I took very good care of my dvds.

Yeah.  Those (Super Jewel Box) cases only look good when new... they are very prone to scratches and cracks.  Amaray is still more durable.   It's just you don't see them often, so it feels new and novel.

So far, I haven't have any problems with local DVD9, they are great value.  Unlike DVD5s where PQ is compromised.

Actually, I sold my 2-discs Spiderman 3 to a colleague and bought this one-disc version today.  Pics:

Sorry for the full size pics.  Don't know how to use thumbnail view in Photobucket.  Next time will try another photo sharing site...

The jewel box case does look classy.  I used to have a few blank verbatim DVDs in jewel box.   And a few of my DVD-Audios are in one.  I recall seeing a Madonna and Gary V concert DVDs in jewel box.  I just might get it if I see one at the SM Sucat Astro.  Scratches are the least of my worries about this type of packaging.  The DVD-A jewel boxes are still scratch free after 2 years.  (Ofcourse, I rarely handle them to play.  And so do DVDs.)  The way Amaray cases have started to look so cheap, wrinkled and pirated-like is often a turn-off.  I wish DVD cases are in jewel box or tin cases.  My only issue is that I have yet to see 2 DVDs in a jewel box.

Just bought the single disc jewel box this afternoon.  Really nice to behold.  The calender is essentially worthless.  I just hate that MTRCB sticker stuck on the insert cover though. I'm currently figuring out how to take if off without ruining the paper which is quite flimsy.  When  I first opened it, the smell of freshly printed paper is still quite strong.  ;D

Now if someone can sell me the 2nd disc in the 2 disc version for P300, I have a way of including it in the jewel box.   ;D

I hope magna's future single disc releases are in jewel boxes.  It's a jewel indeed.

I use this to peel of those stickers with ease. You can buy it at True Value. Just make a drop or two to the sticker itself and be surprise on how easy it will peel off. Wipe it with a tissue right after.

For all those gooey, sticky, gummy, greasy cleaning problems. Removes chewing gum, grease, tar stickers, labels, tape residue, oil, blood, lipstick and mascara, shoe polish, crayon, bumper stickers. Works on carpets, upholstery, clothing, wood, and cement.

Single Disc Features:  None unless you consider Trailers and Advertisements as features.

Trailers:  Coming to Bluray, Surf's Up, Across The Universe, Vantage Point, Superbad, Ghost riders

Advertisements: Chuppa Chups (2x), Bacchus, Jimm's 5-in-1 Coffee, Enchanted Kingdom, and something else I forgot.

The ad pops up automatically when you put the disc in.   It is kinda annoying, actually, now that i think of it, Magnavision is making money with these ads, the price for the disc should actually be even lower, since it is ad-sponsored!

I think the Last Magnavision disc with local advertisement is Casino Royale, though I usually go for the 'imported disc' versions so I could be wrong...

What the hell is this? And I thought watching in a moviehouse with Dragon Katol, etc commercials is bad enough?  What more in my own home.  ???

Look on the bright side, you don't have to rewatch that 'downloading video is stealing, stealing is a crime' video for the nth time. ;)

Seriously, it does cheapens a high-end product as this.  If it were for budget DVDs that sells for 299, I would understand.  But having paid Php 595, you expect to get a commercial free product.  Not ad-supported filled.

your right. the single disc Casino royale has a lot of trailers/ads which you cannot fast forward or skip. quite annoying. the 2 disc version does not have this?

No, the two-disc versions of both Casino Royale and Spider-Man 3 do not have any commercials.

Just watching it now, and indeed the ads were annoying.  I didn't expect this.  Magna should have priced this at P199 with those ad revenues.  ;D

Magnavision and advertisers, please note. A flier in the package and a commercial that I could skip through I would consider okay, and would be effective advertising.

But being forced to watch commercials that cannot be bypassed would make me boycott said products.

By the way, these forced commercials aren't exclusively a Magnavision issue. They're also present on local titles like the Viva softcore direct-to-video exclusives. It isn't really bad if it's a single commercial. But I remember one title I bought had over 5 minutes of these commercials you couldn't fast forward through.

Luckily, the 2-disc edition (import) does not have the annoying advertisement. I'd hate it  >:(

Btw, PQ is great & nice surround too. Love the features in 16:9 format.

This is a learning episode for me.  The next time Magna releases a single disc title when a 2-disc is available, I'd be wiser.  Jewel box or no.  Magna is exploiting a captured audience with ads on its DVDs.  At least on TV, the remote control is so useful in changing chanels when the commercials come in.  With this, the more I won't patronize the products on those ads.  Let Magna take note.

It cheapens the value of the DVD itself with this ads. I cringe whenever RPN-9 telecasts the OSCARS with local tv ads and flashes at the bottom the sponsor telling: "(name of the sponsor) congratulates the winner for Best Actress...." It also happens most of the times in our local awards. Cooking oil, toiler cleaners and what-have-yous that the winners doesn't know anything about. Sheesh...  And now, they invade our own private viewing ???

Hah! I'd rather watch that than advertisements of products that don't have anything to do with the movie at all. And local ones at that.  >:(

SONY.

O Music Rockwell got curious about this ads and played one, we were all shaking our heads in disappointment. No skip and fast forward. I will pass on this for now and will wait for someone to sell it at 300ph.  ;D
