That's because they are moving to digital. If you do not have the box, you wont receive the digital signal. The same will happen when broadcast tv also shifts to digital. You have to get the box to receive the digital signals.

Or the alternative is to stay with analog while the rest of the world moves on.

^jason the my isang solution sa pag-iwan sa analog. via ung HD Cable. masyadong sigurista ang sky kaya ginawa nila ang encryption to prevent illegal connection, and besides. digibox is NOT High Definition.Mpeg lang gamit nila.

The digibox would be a pain in the butt for those of us who own DV-Recorders. By forcing us to choose one station to fix the broadcast signal to, it would make recording different channels while you're away on holiday impossible. And don't even try explaining your predicament of recording multiple channels to the people who'll install your digibox. Believe me, when they tried to install a simple analog cable box on my system (for season one of Big Brother), I had to teach THEM what to do. Also, the digibox will make watching one program while recording another impossible. That defeats the purpose of owning a DV-R.

So unless Sky comes up with a solution to this... then YES, I'd much rather be stuck in the analog age for a while longer. After all, how much TRUE digital programming is already available in the country, anyway? As far as I know, wala pa. And besides, the Philippines isn't scheduled to completely turn off analog transmissions until December 31, 2015. Screw Sky's digibox for now. I want to be able to record ESPN while taping Solar Sports. That's why I bought a DVD-R in the first place.

And since I'm also a Destiny subscriber, I still get my Solar Sports and BTV one and a half hours from now... and can record one while watching the other...

Digital? Here? Sa PI? They must be kidding.

I can bear watching those shows in analog for years, no problem with me. Besides, I watch news 90% of the time. I'd rather stay with it as long as I am comfortable and they don't force people to shift.

Good thing that Destiny was able to put my place back online. I also was forced to get a Sky Digibox (since Home Cable was bought over by Sky) and basically forced my other tv's in the house to be disconnected except if I agreed to get a digibox for each one.

Now I got two cable service into my house and will soon probably just decide to have the Sky service disconnected. I think by Sky being almost like a monopoly it is just dictating on end-users and the way they handled enforcing digibox implementation was a clear sign of how they think they have almost a monopoly hold in the marketplace today.

I'll try out the new channels for a month siguro. sana magka-nba sa balls.

On the other hand Destiny has TCM! Kaso wala silang Animax, Cinemaone, Star, etc.

What about other cable companies like Muntinlupa Cable, Paranaque Cable, etc.?

Any feedback from subscribers?

i believe the transmitting power of SBN and RJTV are weak hence it could not reach far away provinces...in that case its not sky's fault that hindi umaabot yung channels na yun faraway

I'm having a Jack TV and BTV withdrawal syndrome. Maxxx just doesn't cut it for me. Although aliw yung Xplay. Sana yung JackTV na lang ang nalipat sa RPN9 instead of C/S.

This exodus has started already, to my surprise. I haven't been watching anything on my TV except DVDs all throughout the holidays so when I switched it on last night, wala na Jack, ETC, 2nd Ave etc. Syet, wala nang Conan.

Lecheng ABS talaga. And it looks like there are no plans in the household to switch providers.

Oh well, not the end of the world. TV shows lang naman 'to. More to life and all that. Move on na lang.

According to rules governing cable tv as issued by the NTC, cable operators are required to carry tv stations in their area of operation only. This is called the must carry rule. If RJTV is not available in a given provincial area (because RJTV does not have a station there), the cable operator in that area is not compelled to carry RJ. On the other hand, if RJ gives out free satellite receivers to these operators (RJTV is also on satellite), then the cable operator at their option may carry RJ. Same thing with SBN. RPN's network is more extensive among the three so most probably provincial operators carry them.

...Problem is some provinces did have them. But after the press release that ETC & ETC2nd Ave were transferring to these specific channels, people tried to check them out...surprisingly both channels were no longer on air.
