LCD Display Only
« on: Mar 18, 2008 at 07:39 PM »
I noticed there are widescreen 22" LCD displays for the PC with DVI terminals with 1050p resolution.  The Samsung model I saw retails for only 14.5T and a MAG retails for 13.5T.  They'd be great for DVD watching as they would upscale the 480i DVD resolution to their native resolution and I  really don't need tuners and speakers which those LCD TVs costing upwards of 100T have.  I am just not sure if these displays can accept 1080p output from BD and HD DVD players where I will just need HDMI to DVI converters.  Now if only they have 32" models, I am sure they can be had for less than 30T.  For DVD and HD watching, you really don't need built-in tuners and amps/speakers that just bring the price up.  Has anyone seen display only LCDs above 22"?  TIA

i've seen a viewsonic (32"/37") couple of months back in most of the computer shops, it has built in speakers but no tuner for these models were meant for computers. i don't know if they still have this at zero interest as advertised in the local newspaper before.

That would be great for HT viewing in general, as you would have no use for built-in HD tuners and pathetic amps/speakers anyway in almost all LCD TVs out there.   ;D  30T seems reasonable for a display-only 32"LCD provided it has the same 1080p native res and input capability.

probably lcd video monitor would be only 1388 x 768 resolution for 32 " models  , most of the time it's more expensive that the lcdtv equivalents we have a samsung 32 " lcd video monitor only and it was i think 45K...vat exempt and indent order pa yun.

30 in PC monitors are more high resolution 2560 x 1600 and ideal for CAD use .. For movie and video are not ideal as they have basically poor scalers built in .

Those 22" LCDs for PC have 1050p resolution. And yes, those 32 inchers should be able to do 1600p.  I do suspect they have relatively poor built-in scalers but I think the better video cards already use decent scalers so that you upscale from the PC.   Many HTPC users already enjoy upscaled video and 720p HD long before consumers started to see 720p LCD TVs out there.   ;D

Hitachi L32S01A pala yung nakita ko sa LIS. 1366x768 native resolution nya. pwede na rin for non professtional use. my cousin uses the panasonic 42pv70 w/c has the same resolution as a computer display and ok naman yung PQ. btw this is an LCD TV & not just a display.

Kaya naman pala 29T lang.   Better pa pala yung 22" LCDs with a native res of 1650 x 1050 for only 13.5T  ;D

I think all of them are good with just very slight differences.  All of them have the 1680 X 1050 native resolution with both DVI and VGA terminals and a claimed contrast ratio of 3000:1.  The Samsung has the fastest response time of 2ms but it's also the most expensive at around 16T.  The others have 5ms which is not bad at all for fast moving scenes.  At the 13.5T price point, I'd prefer the MAG brand over ASUS  For 1T more, there's LG.  For about 15T I'd go for the ACER brand.  The AOC is the cheapest at 12.9T. These are all Villman prices.  Really, I'm still mulling my options too.   I guess it now just boils down to ergonomics.  ;D  I've narrowed down my choices to LG, MAG and Samsung.  I'd have to save up some more if I decide to get the Samsung.   ;D  I am using a conventional 15" LCD Samsung Syncmaster 153V now so I may be biased towards it as I've not had any problems with it over the last 2 years, turning 3 this July.

What do you think of 22" AOC? I saw in tipidpc  that a store in Gilmore is selling it at around 10k but I'm not sure if this is the same model as what you saw in Villman. I'm also eyeing for Samsung but because of a limited budget I'd rather settle with this AOC.

Gillmore has the lowest prices for PCs and PC components anywhere.  The AOC model is 2216VW which Villman retails for 12,996.  AOC is also good but among IT people, the brand is known to be the cheapest among monitors even with their CRTs whose colors aren't as vivid and as sharp as others. But their LCDs look very competitive alright.

Nope.  None of the models I've mentioned have HDMI.  Just DVI.  If it has, I am almost certain the price would double.  The MAG 26" LCD with HDMI retails for 29T.  ;D

HP has a 22" monitor with HDMI that retails around 16.5k at the malls, the specific model is HP2207H.

I think someone at tipidpc also sells these at a lower price.
