Using LCD TV as PC Monitor
« on: Jan 07, 2008 at 08:43 AM »
Does anybody uses their LCD TV as PC Monitor?
I tried connecting my LCD TV which has a PC input using vga cable.
The output is not that great and there's some static running down the screen.

My LCD TV is only capable of displaying 1080i and I am currently using on-board vid from my ASUS mother board.
What did you do to get the best output?
What vid card or cable did you use?

TIA

For my LCD, HDMI to PC's DVI gives the cleanest output.

If I use VGA cables, there is this ghosting signal noise crisscrossing the screen that's very annoying. It's the same whether it's a 1.8m or 8m VGA cable that I use.

My PCs' vid cards are Inno3d 8400GS, ATI 9250 and Inno5500. Any of these three PC's that i use, as long as it's the DVI output, the panel gives the best image.

I think

PC    --->   LCD TV
DVI    to     HDMI

connection will give the best result regarding the PC to TV connections.  :)

@New Thanks for the input.
Sayang lang pala ang PC input ng LCD TV ko hindi pala sya mag-output ng maganda.
Dapat pala iyung wala na lang PC input na LCD nakuha ko much cheaper pa ng ilang thousand pesos.

Much cheaper alternative than buying a video card with DVI.
Still using on-board video card.
May vga to hdmi ba o vga to component cable converter?

Wala bang software driver na kasama?  Alam ko kasi may kasamang driver dapat kapag via VGA.

Same here. it wasnt good for games, but for movies... it was better than a HDMI upscaling DVD player.

Wala pa akong napansin na ganyang connection combo vga-hdmi, maybe since vga is analog in nature while DVI-HDMI are both digital in nature. I've read somewhere here about DVI-A (analog version) but computer video cards definitely churn out DVI-D signals as proven by the various graphic cards I've successfully interfaced with my LCD.

May function din naman ang vga kahit papaano. A lot of other display resolutions are available with the vga connection from VGA nga to XVGA up to the resolution limits of the video card and monitor. Compare that to only 480p (too big), 576p (too narrow), 720p (ok) and 1080i (no 1080p, pero napakaliit na) na ipinakita sa akin ng hdmi connection ko. For presentations mas applicable yun, lalo na if a company uses flat panels instead of projectors. Madaling ma-link ng mga laptop or pc. And there are a lot of dvd players pala na may vga output na so kung wala kang hdmi cable, magagamit mo pa rin yung lcd using an ordinary vga cable.  ;D

Hi Guys,
Since i don't have a HD DVD or Blu Ray player yet, i'm using my PC to watch HD movies(720p/1080p mkv ). I'm using nvidia 7300 GT video card & DVI to HDMI cable(bought in Trinoma for 1K). My max resolution on a Samsung LA40R81B is 768p. maganda naman ung video quality.

I connect my laptop to my PV42 Panasonic plasma via VGA cable at 720p.  The image is very good considering that I am only using the standard VGA out of the laptop.  What more if I use a dedicated video card from a PC, I'm sure the image will be better!

the problem i experienced when i connected my PC to my 32" samsung via HDMI/DVI cable was resolution. The VC cannot send a 1366x768. I think there's a way to do it via powerstrip (program that gives you control to manually set the resolution) but when i still cant seem to make it work.

my solution?

i got this instead

at least kamukha ng TV :)
