Bangkok DVD talk
« on: Jan 05, 2008 at 11:41 PM »
I want to start a list of DVDs bought in Bangkok that are censored.  Feel free to contribute to the list.  The censorship system they have in Thailand is confusing.

Any Given Sunday (naked male player) - not censored
Resident Evil II (Milla naked inside the tank) - not censored
Blade III (two topless goth chick) - not censored

Silent Hill (breast) - censored (blurred)
Snakes on a Plane (snake biting female breast) - censored (blurred)

This is not about the censorship but I just wanted to say a few things about Bangkok DVDs, particularly the ones I got from dorian gray.  I am very impressed with the technical qualities of the DVDs!  From the 6 dvds i bought, I've watched three -- Blade Trinity, Whale Rider and Sin City.  And I was really floored with the PQ and the SQ of these dvds.  I just hope we can match this quality in terms of locally minting our dvds.

Dorian, are all dvds like these in Bangkok?  Or you have to choose titles?  The next time I go to Bangkok I will surely head to the dvd stores first. Please let me know name of stores!

In terms of packaging, it's average.  Although the amaray cases are bigger than usual and they don't use clear amaray for sleeves with back print artwork.  And there were several typographical errors spotted. But who cares about the packaging when you've got above average PQ / SQ!

I can't wait to open the next 3 dvds that I have.

Yun lang po... sorry it's not about censorship....

I carefully handpicked all of the DVDs I sold in Marketplace because some the imported DVDs here are more expensive than in Manila. And some of the locally-pressed DVDs are on DVD-5s.

They have been pressing DVD-9s here for a long time. And the first releases usually have very very nice packaging. I believe some of the guys here have received the first set of Blade Trinity. They were in a sleek carton box.

It is actually fun going to different DVD stores here because they have different prices sometimes. The DVDs I have sold are from different stores. Of course, I always look for the best deals.

Well as for the censored DVDs, I think there are not many of them.

juric,

I am not selling anything right now. I am already in Bangkok. I do not know if I will do this again. The last one might be my last.
