The NBI weighs in
During a press conference on Wednesday, Jan. 29, the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) presented the footage taken from the CCTV cameras at the condominium's main gate, lobby, and elevator.
NBI assistant regional director Vicente de Guzman said, "Ang mga ebidensya po natin apart from the testimony of Vhong Navarro, is the video itself. Dito po nagtutugma yung testimony ni Mr. Vhong Navarro with that of what we saw in the CCTV."
Navarro has adamantly denied that he attempted to rape Deniece Cornejo inside her unit at the second floor of the building on the night of January 22.
The timeline
Citing the CCTV footage, the NBI presented a timeline of the night when Navarro was mauled inside Cornejo's condominium unit. They noted that the time stamp in the elevator's CCTV was 40 minutes (give or take a few seconds) late compared to the real time at the lobby's CCTV.
Based on the Forbeswood CCTV footage, Here is the chronology of what happened on the evening of JANUARY 22:
10:38 p.m. — Vhong Navarro enters the building's lobby.
10:39 p.m. — Vhong Navarro goes to the elevator and heads to the second floor of the building. (Note: The elevator CCTV's time stamp is 9:59 p.m. because, as the NBI had indicated, it was 40 minutes late compared to the real time at the lobby's CCTV.).
10:40 p.m. — Deniece Cornejo is seen riding the elevator going down to the first floor. She is then shown going out of the building entrance.
10:41 p.m. — A man identified as Cedric Lee enters the building. Lee then goes to the elevator and heads up to the second floor at 10:43 p.m. (Note: The elevator CCTV's time stamp is 10:03 p.m.)
At this point, the NBI emphasized that Cornejo had already left Navarro inside her unit, which means Lee could not have witnessed Navarro on top of her in her room as the businessman has alleged in several interviews. "I think it's not possible yung sinasabi nilang attempt to rape Ms. Cornejo... Kasi po very glaring dito sa ating footage na there was no incident na si Deniece was inside that room," de Guzman said.
10:43 p.m. — Two men—one of whom is wearing a white shirt and glasses and is identified as Ferdinand Guerrero—also enter the condo and go up to the second floor.
10:43 p.m. — Just seconds after the arrival of the two aforementioned men, Deniece Cornejo is seen going back to the building. She appears to be talking to a security guard, Bernice Lee and another man (who is yet to be identified) were also seen at the door. Bernice Lee is Cedric Lee's sister. Accompanied by the security guard, Deniece Cornejo, Bernice Lee, and another man then left the building again.
10:48 p.m. — A man whom Navarro identified only as "Mike" enters the condo. He also takes the elevator to the second floor.
10:56 p.m. — Bernice Lee is seen entering the building. However, she was not seen riding the elevator. The NBI said she might have used the stairs instead when she went up the second floor.
10:59 p.m. — Cedric Lee and Bernice Lee, who are on the second floor, head to the elevator and go down to the first floor. They leave the condo. (Note: The elevator CCTV's time stamp is 10:19 p.m.)
11:01 p.m. — Cedric Lee and Bernice Lee go back to the condo. Deniece Cornejo is with them.
11:02 p.m. — Cedric Lee, Bernice Lee, and Deniece Cornejo take the elevator and head to the second floor. (Note: The elevator CCTV's time stamp is 10:22 p.m.)
11:12 p.m. — A tied-up Vhong Navarro was seen entering the elevator. He seemed to be restrained by two men, who were both not seen in the elevator's earlier CCTV footage. (Note: The elevator CCTV's time stamp is 10:32 p.m.) One of the men was identified as bodybuilder Zimmer Rance. Others also followed them into the elevator: Cedric Lee, Bernice Lee, Deniece Cornejo, Ferdinand Guerrero, the guy known only as "Mike," and another still-unidentified man.
The NBI suspects that Zimmer Rance and the other man who was restraining Vhong Navarro were already in Deniece Cornejo's unit when the actor-host arrived. All in all, there are eight suspects in the case—a total of six men and two women.
11:13 p.m. — Vhong Navarro and the eight suspects were seen walking at the lobby towards the door.
11:14 p.m. — The CCTV at the condo's main gate shows the group leaving the Forbeswood premises.
It is presumed that the group split up and headed to different vehicles. Vhong Navarro, according to his own account, ended up in a van with some members of the group. He was taken the Southern Police District (SPD) where the suspects filed a blotter against Navarro for allegedly attempting to rape Deniece Cornejo.
