So what is the best BD player?
« on: Feb 18, 2009 at 05:25 PM »
Sorry for the arrogant title, just an effect to set the mood ;) after so many models have come out, updates on firmware etc, what is the best BDplayer excluding PS3.

Im thinking of going HD in a few months but am not sure which brand/model to buy.

Pros and Cons

Sony
Samsung
Panasonic
Pioneer

Thanks!

PANASONIC BD35 - because it costs only P24,000+ from Sonny Tuazon of Home Theater, the loading time is vastly improved from first generation, previous Blu Ray units; its slim and lightweight, 220volts, and the most important, it was rated the highest accolade for its picture resolution (CNet, etc.). For blokes like me who subscribed to the ideal that IMAGE IS EVERYTHING and don't care a whet about audio and some such channel-channel, point-one-point-one non-essentials - the BD35 gratifies nonpareil.

I'd have chosen the Marantz BD8200 which has dual function: Realta-HQV DVD upconversion/playback with Blu Ray function. But this is not available locally and the $1,800 MSRP retail price will bankrupt my Buddha alcancia. And why pay for an overpriced, outrageously valued model?

wow, thanks for the great infor! i guess the price diff between getting it locally versus getting it from one of the sellers here like Toy 01 is substantial, is it around 16k?. Would try to read more.

thanks!

For now, Id still go for SONY PS3. Probably until OPPO or DENON BD players starts coming in the mainstream.

The BD-55 and -35 are already OOP and the unsold ones are selling at a premium >:(

Panasonic discontinues DMP-BD35 Blu-ray player

Over the past several weeks, we've noticed that our favorite standalone Blu-ray player to date, the Panasonic DMP-BD35, seems almost impossible to find. The player is either out of stock at nearly every retailer, or priced at excessive premiums ($700 at Amazon Marketplace--more than double its $299 MSRP).

Indeed, a Panasonic rep we contacted confirmed that the DMP-BD35 has been discontinued. (The same is presumably true for its big brother, the DMP-BD55.) The good news is that it will soon be replaced by the Panasonic DMP-BD60, which offers a nearly identical spec sheet plus the addition of Viera Cast (support for online media services such as YouTube and Amazon Video On Demand). The bad news? The BD60 isn't due until April. That means prospective Panasonic fans either have to wait, or scour eBay for deals on the hard-to-find BD35.
