A DIY 7189A SE AMP
« on: Apr 04, 2008 at 02:51 PM »
I have some 7189A pulls from an old timer and i decided its time to put them into good use. Along with those are 5R4WGB rectifier from a friend and some 6922s and 6N1Ps from my tube stash. So i told myself, what am i waiting for? Build some SE!

The design was based on the decware zen amp which uses SV83/EL84 tubes. See here:  http://www.decware.com/newsite/mainmenu.htm

Simple. Easy to build. Putting out 2W of power according to decware.

Here is my version. I modded heavily on the PSU starting with a large PTX and adding a choke and splitting the driver supply pseudo mono style. I have used whatever parts I have in my bin..The big filter cap is a Marcon 225uf 475V i bought from a surplus shop for 200 pesos. Testing the amp yesterday night:

The innards. The OPT is under the chasi. Notice that left and right OPTs near the speaker binding posts. Actually I tried to make an OPT from a 3/4 leg Z11 core, trying to see how smaller i can get away with and see if it will work..It does.. :D

This is still a test bed and will need some tweaking. Sounds good right now but can sound better. I will need to exert some more effort. I have some vitaminQ oil caps lying around and yes, I will finish that wooden plinth.. :D

I was at Edrel's office today, and boy this "inexpensive" amp is rocking!

Hooked up to a 3-way Pioneer speakers, they sounded much better than some commercial tube amp, and way better than those other DIY tubed amp that I have heard.

Way to go Edrel!

sa tube diy irons lng naman ang mahirap hanapin. this case, its readily available because i make them. i am supplying transformers sa mga OEM companies sa cavite, laguna for their exports.

i am based sa EPZA sa cavite you may want to visit.. :)

the rest of the parts are easy to find..nagkalat sa raon and my bins. i can sell you no problem :)
