Follow the break-in procedure, you won't loose anything if you do. Those settings are best applied after break-in.

From a very reliable source hdtv.com.uk and may I quote:

"Gamers should probably worry more about the possibility of incurring irreversible screenburn: the Panasonic TH42PX80 was not as resistant to image retention as the Pioneer Kuro PDP-4280XD. I recommend following the advice given in our article on how to prevent screenburn... at least for the first 200 hours of use."

Even if you won't use it for games it's better to be safe than sorry...

For the break in I used Standard or Cinema and adjusted my picture settings to about 50% or less.

Got mine from Sir Vic last night, he gave me the sale price two days in advance as I couldn't visit on weekdays for the actual sale.

Was also very excited I brought it home the same night (I learned that the not-so-small cardboard box can fit on an Innova's second row seat) and immediately installed it with the help of my diminutive commander (it is heavy and its swivel stand needs assembly).

Bought a Sabre stand on sale and an HTIB for the bedroom as well.

First impressions... replacing the bedroom 14" Panasonic TV that I've had since 1996... OMGXOBXHUGELOL 3x increase in diagonal screen size!!!  :o

Attaching its swivel stand was easy (8 screws in total, and the metal swivel stand itself looks very strong even if it has a plastic piano finish). Putting it on an A/V stand requires two people. This was done in less than 10 minutes.

Auto-tuning of channels was not as straightforward... the default Hong Kong (and Asia) auto-tune settings was way off-whack. After trying the other Auto-tune settings, I found that the American CATV got the channel sequence and sound (4.5MHz) better than the ones I've tried. It's not perfect but at least the cable channels are in the right sequence. Anybody have a better way to auto-tune for Philippine cable with this TV?

I had feared that the images on cable would not be nice on such a big screen, but was pleasantly surprised that it came out okay. There's the posterization/pixelization apparent, but a screen this size would magnify any shortcomings in video source. I certainly don't have problems with watching TV on this one. I haven't had the chance to play any HD content yet (busy, busy), but I'm looking forward to that after a few days.

To the S&S showroom people, thanks and sorry late na kayo nag sara kagabi!  ;D

Hi guys question lang. Have you encountered na nagfflicker yung pv80 nyo? Im using my HTPC connected to my pv80. This is visible during fast action scenes. Ganun din sa bro. ko, mas kita yung sa kanya. I've tried connecting our popcorn hour to my bro's pv80 pero hindi na sya nagflicker? I guess there's something wrong with our display settings doon sa pc namen? Ano po kaya problema?  ???

Have had my 42PV80 for two weeks now.  Have gone through the break in procedure put forward by the many experts here and am already at 170 hours.  Am not doing the 100 hour break in but the 200 hour!  Am happy with this unit on all fronts.  Standard cable is good.  Standard DVD playing on normal and not upscaled DVD player is very good. PS3  gaming is fantastic and Blueray Discs are great.  I love it. My wife loves it. My kids love it. I honestly have not one complaint thus far.

Again Thanks to Victor and Paul  of Sights and Sounds for there help and  recommendations along the way and a HUGE THANK YOU to  Carlos777 for his invaluable input and commentarry throughout my 2 weeks of  auditions.

Glad to be of help! You owe me lunch...Do swing by Corinthians when you're in the area^

@Anyone

This is a pretty lame question but how do I connect a Panny HTIB to work with my ps3? I don't have any HTIB system of any sort and I may buy one just to test it on my PV80^

The HTIB I'm looking at is a PT465. (I think this is a good entry level HTIB system for someone like me who never had one)

Hi guys I need help. I just got my HTIB yesterday but I'm having trouble connecting it to my pc using the optical cable. Is there any setting I need to change in XP or in the HTIB for this to work properly? I enabled passthrough but no sound will come out. TIA

I remember before when I setup a HTPC for a friend using EMAXX AMD780 shipset board with HDMI out to his 42" LCD TV, but theres no sound via HDMI cable, I found out that you need to set something in the chipset peripherals in the BIOS to enable it before sound will come out... HTH...

Sir thanks for the reply...I have my onboard audio controller enabled....I've done some testing...I plugged my ps2(no ps3 yet...maybe soon   :) ) using the toslink to the htib and same result. So I'm thinking its either a problem with the cable or just the setting in the HTIB...To bad I'm not able to use it yet with my pana pv80  :-[

Hi guys thanks for all the replies. I finally was able to make it work. Its just a case of a defective cable. But I have another problem. Has anyone of PV80 usere here encountered the tv just shutsdown by itself and the red power light blinks. I turn off the TV and after 10 min its back to normal again. I already experience this twice.

I found a lot of link in google about this and its kinda scary.http://www.google.com.ph/search?hl=tl&client=firefox-a&rls=org.mozilla%3Aen-US%3Aofficial&hs=oL4&q=panasonic+blinking+red+light&btnG=Maghanap&meta=

I'm contacting sir Jeff about this and maybe he can help me figure this out.

got my 42pv80 yesterday...
im going through the usual burn in procedure as suggested in his forum... eco mode with no static images...
im using concert dvds to play as they have no blackbars but im getting impatient and i want to start watching my dvds ( they do have blackbars though) is it ok to do this? or is it better to wait for 200 hours begfore i start watching dvd's with blackbars? thanks in advance

one last question... when i was in another store, i overheard a customer scheduling a calibration session after he bought his LCD... do i also need to have my plasma tv calibrated by a qualified technician after the 200 hour burn in procedure? thanks again
