Wow!!! 40k na lang! .... when i started the thread, the PV8 was selling for 55k - it was really a good buy and "bang for the buck" back then ... I guess you can already call this a BARGAIN or a FIRE SALE  ;D ;D ;D ;D

I think that the new models are about to be released

What if they are. mahihirapan ba yung buyer sa warranty? anung downside ng grey units?

My previous tv was an lcd, so medyo nanibago ako sa softer picture ng plasma. but after a while, nag settle din yung mata ko. watching movies with lights off doesn't get me eye strained anymore, as i experienced with my samsung lcd before. and i'm only watching dvd movies, ganda talaga ng display. i'm gonna get a media player naman for HD content. Watched a hancock 1080p demo from my ps3, and grabe ang linaw. :)

May downside ang gray units pag hindi mo kilala ang reputation ng seller.

Pag white unit, the Philippine distributor will honor the warranty.  Pag gray unit, the Philippine distributor will not honor the warranty, although the retailer will.

Buy a gray unit from an unknown seller and you might have problems with store warranty claims.

Buy a gray unit from a reputable pinoydvd retailer and warranty claims will be serviced with even better efficiency than the official Philippine distributor itself.

Ask around for reputable retailers here.  Buy the TV with no worries.  May defect yung TV?  Wala nang repair-repair pa.  Replace with a new unit, no questions asked.

i think Spydamang had a grey unit conked out after 13 months.  the retailer gave him the option to add 18k for a new unit (newer model).

nako, sayang, sana pala i waited a bit longer before i got my pv8... got it more expensive than how much the pv80 is selling now, this month ko lang din siya nabili, hehehe

anyways, un pala ang grey units, hehehe

well, if the people selling it are reputable pinoydvd resellers, then I dont think therell be any problems =)

good luck sirs!

Yeah thanks for the response. That's what I thought as well. a reseller especially somebody who has made admirable profits using this forum cannot put their name at risk simply because of not being able to provide service or uphold eligible warranty claims.

i think Spydamang had a grey unit conked out after 13 months.  the retailer gave him the option to add 18k for a new unit (newer model).

now this is the bad news kung ganun nga yung patakaran sa grey units (malabo yung mga terms and conditions). probably it would be better if the customer requests for the warranty condition be written down sa receipt, maybe "2 years replacement warranty" or something to that effect. hirap kung puro verbal agreement lang before paying for the item. anyway, 40k for a 42" plasma is a real bargain. But 40k is still a large amount of hard earned savings.

I totally agree with your comments sir ... I have no worries at all buying the unit from our reputable sellers here in PDVD ... especially after receiving the kind of service that they offer.

A well-earned reputation is more reliable than a promise on a piece of paper.

Ang mabuting tao, tumutupad sa salita kahit walang kasulatan.  Ang balasubas na tao, isang bundok na papeles man ang piramahan at ipa-notaryo, hindi pa rin tutupad sa pangako.

In my line of work, I see that all the time...  ;)

Agree 100% kahit grey ok lang sa akin as long as the "seller" fulfills his end of the bargain. I'm the kind of customer who likes personal service and  I don't really like long procedures.

I remember the first LCD I got from a reputable seller here and it had this "powering down" issue, I just breifly described the probelm over the phone. The next day palit kaagad.

Yup, that's why I prefer dealing with sellers like that over large companies that have very bureaucratic procedures.

I got a PY850 from **S last year. Had a slight problem and with no questions asked, the unit was replaced after 2 days. That's what I call customer service. Sometimes, warranty claims for a grey unit from a reputable reseller is easier than claiming from the official distributor.
