Urgent help needed Toshiba C3500 vs Samsung 40" R81
« on: Aug 07, 2008 at 10:32 AM »
Hi I'm new here and actually new to high end electronics.

I want to buy a Flat panel LCD and I've narrowed it down to two choices.I'm not even sure if my choices are the best among what I've seen.

Anyways, the two are:

Toshiba 37" C3500 versus Samsung 40" R81.

I know it's like comparing apples to oranges since they have different sizes and a P15,000 price difference.

Sights and Sounds told me the R81 is phased out na.Is this true?

At any rate, would you spend P15k more for 3 extra inches?

Thanks

R8's are already phased out....dont use the size and price as comparison...

audition both side by side...compare picture qualities

The Bourdeux R series has been replaced by the new Samsung 3 and 4 series.

At P15K difference, the 40R81 Samsung LCD is really not that good price, consider that you can get a new model 42" (2" more) Toshiba REGZA at the same price difference.

Another line of thought is perhaps you may wish to try plasma TV. Panasonic plasma TV TH42PV8 delivers better quality picture than LCD TV: richer color, deeper contrast (1million contrast), and 400hz motion picture. Furthermore, this plasma TV has a popular price not that far from Samsung 40R81B.

Unless of course, if you are really into LCD TV, you should continue shopping for other LCD TVs that are popular price and at newer model.

Like I said, I'm a newbie...almost zero knowledge ???

Here are my constraints:
Below P60k budget
LCD dapat...because I was told that Plasmas have been proven beaten daw by LCD's and will die much earlier than an LCD.I don't want to get into a lengthy Plasma vs LCD debate but in a nutshell, is it still safe, wise and economical to buy a Plasma?

I'll be using it for gaming mostly and kids shows for my kids.

I guess best question to ask is, what's the best TV (size, performance, looks) for under P60,000???

There's no truth that plasma TV is dying. The reality is the new plasma TVs, which used to be superior than LCD, has continued to evolve with better features. Overall, it is safe and economical (value for money) to buy a plasma TV. I will not dwell on the issue of plasma vs LCD TV here. You may wish to check out the discussion in another thread: http://pinoydvd.com/board/index.php?topic=19901.0.

Anyway for LCD at P60K budget, I have the following suggestions:
Toshiba 42AV500 at P62K. A very good TV for broadcast, dvd movie, and gaming purpose.
Toshiba 37C3000 at P55K. A full HD TV that not only for broadcast, dvd movie, and standalone gaming purpose, but also for PC use.

Of course, there is also new Samsung 40A450 at P62K. Or Samsung full HD 37A550 at P60K.

Nevertheless, between Toshiba and Samsung, I prefer Toshiba because of richer color and better balance of contrast and brightness.

For further evaluation of picture quality, visit Sights and Sounds at 4th level Shangri-La Plaza. Or call 634-1789 to 90.
