Hi, just some insights about this player. It runs my USB2.0 external 2.5 80gb.hdd after reformatting it to FAT32 using gparted on my linux machine. It should be formatted as being a primary, inactive drive, meaning not bootable.:)  I've been watching a lot of divx/xvid files on it,and my problem now is that the player stops when file size is greater than 1GB or more. >:(

months ago, someone asked me about the usb performance of DV-610.
recently, we viewed more than 5 movies (720format) through this route.

WD external HD => usb cable ==> DV610 => hdmi cable==> Panasonic 42C10S

sorry po, i am not very good with HT details and terminologies.. motion stutter is there but not at distracting degree... sharpness is very good.. vivid color and black contrasted well.
sum up: we are very satisfied with the picture quality of these combination.

depends on what you need, price difference is minimal

610 - available in silver only, plays DVD audio and SACD, has better DAC
420 - available in black
SVS PB13 Ultra and SB13 PLus

Guys please confirm if this can play atleast 720p mkv format using external HD?

like the comment came from bass_nut:

on audio side, DV-610 will benefit much when used with a very good external DAC.

my route
CD played on DV-610 ==> digital audio signal either from coax or optical output jack ==> optical/coax cable ==> SuperPro 707 DAC (external DAC)==> rca cables ==> pre amp ==>  power amp ==> speakers

or
CD played on DV-610 ==> digital audio signal either from coax or optical output jack ==> optical/coax cable ==> SuperPro 707 DAC (external DAC)==> rca cables ==> headphone amp ==> high quality headphones (Grado HF-2)

How good ba talaga ang upscaling nito?

sana magbigay naman kayo ng screenshot or ng photoshoot sa inyong digicam.

I've been using this player since August, 2009 unit I bought in Automatic Centre in Glorietta. So far it's been good.

+ Superb picture quality as a DVD and media file player (divx, xvid, avi, wmv) on my Sony Bravia KLV-40V300A via HDMI.
+ Excellent sound on my "antique" analog sound system: Pioneer RX receiver plus JBL speakers
+ Reads / plays my 160GB USB enclosure having samsung IDE 2.5" HDD even without power adapter. The power adapter though is required if using usb extension cable. Otherwise, the supplied USB power of the DV610 is sufficient to run an HDD enclosure as long as it's formatted FAT32

- Cannot read mkv, mp4, mpeg-1, mpeg-2, .dat in USB mode
- No repeat play for mp3 files

I've upgraded my firmware to Hakan's StM version 2.0. A few month's after I bought the player. And my experience has gotten better. The features of the upgrade are clearly stated here: http://www.pioneerfaq.info/english/dv610.php?player=DV-610AV&question=Firmwares

The advantages I liked most with the upgrade are bass, treble boost, equalizer, display of long filenames in USB mode, improved contextual displays e.g. titles, timings have bigger font sizes. Also the upgrade has fixed file corruption issue wherein it now skips to the next song/mp3 if the current one is unreadable. I'm particularly happy with the added option of shuffle play which is really useful if you have big mp3 collection.

The newer versions (currently v2.1A and up) posted in Hakan's site however will change the file browser's color to silver (from greenish). It might just be me but the combination used by Hakan rendered the letters unreadable. IMHO this is the only drawback of the custom firmware though minimal. I'll post some picture of the upgraded version if anyone's interested.

Here are some screenshots of the modified firmware. I'm using version 2.0. Note that this is no longer available in Hakan's site. The main difference with the newer firmware is the file list menu having a grayscale background and contexts. This is explained in detail below.

On the left side is the original red pioneer logo. Beside it is the modified firmware having the silver logo and a caption "seeing and hearing like never before"

The default file list menu shows a split screen. The enhanced version enables long file name support thus maximizing the entire frame. You'll also notice new icons "musical notes" for sound files while a "film" indicates movie files. The newer firmwares (2.1 and above) posted in Hakan's site has this menu in grayscale, a classic look with a small "pioneer" logo on top and a bottom caption which reads "sound.vision.soul". IMHO the new menu's difficult to read compared with the ones posted here.

The revised display has enlarged caption for the title and other information. It also shows here the "shuffle" play when "7" is pressed. Sequential play is also supported by pressing the corresponding number keys on the remote control.

New items in audio settings most prominent of which are the equalizer and sound boost (treble, bass, super bass)

Complete features for the modded firmware here: http://pioneerfaq.info/english/dv610.php?player=DV-610AV&question=Firmwares

saw the silver unit at anson's trinoma and elegante naman itsura ng silver. i currently don't have a region free dvd player (as i gave away my dv120). i'm gonna be using it to play region 1 discs (region locked kasi yung bd550 ko) but will be used more as a standalone cd player. hope to get a unit before the holy week break

was supposed to get this unit kanina from listening room in megamall. na test ko na, humingi na ko ng sealed box. tinest then nakita ko yung box ng lx50. i asked kung magkano yung lx50 knowing na around 30k pa rin siya sa malls, ansons, automatic center etc. then the salesperson told me na naka sale daw ng 9,500 cash. i was utterly surprised. unfortunately they only had one unit on stock and it was already reserved. they told me they could get another unit but i had to wait until monday. i had to make a decision either to purchase the dv610 at 5,500 and take a unit home or add 4k and wait until monday. in the end i decided to just wait until monday to get the higher model lx50. now i just can't wait until monday!
