This one feature is also worth the firmware upgrade...

- MKV Chapters support.
- MKV chapter key handling (follows WMP)
- use PREV/NEXT key to switch chapter
- at each chapter,
- pressing PREV once will goto start of that chapter
- pressing PREV twice will goto previous chapter
- pressing PREV twice at 1st chapter will goto previous clip if in playlist
- pressing NEXT once will goto start of next chapter
- pressing NEXT once at last chapter will goto next clip if in playlist

RJ, have you tried getting the external Vantec NexStar MX casings that I am also using? I am on my 3rd unit of that... thanks also for helping me get the 1.5TB last Friday... :-) (So far, I tried two of my 1.5TB HD's into them and they seem to be working out well despite an overnight operation).

I went to E-Home yesterday and ended up getting another WD 1TB My Studio... I really think I will need confine myself with "Unexplained-Storage-Space-Obsession-Syndrome"... tally to-date: 10TB. I have now to find a good time to weed out my duplicates... I am also creating my own personal jukebox of all my DVD collection before... after that I will sell off my SONY 400-DVD Megachangers --- both of them!

This surely beats the EMC storage total space capacity we have in the data center right now! hahaha

:-)
Will c0nsider getting one of these nexstar mx in the future.. Sana by that time mura na ung esata versi0n. :)

for the love of all things holy, do help me get it to work :P i can't manage to go beyond the boot up screen :P it's still here though, lol.

Richie, this one is also nice... try to get the model with the wireless LAN support option bundled together... :-) (thumbs-up for the LCD display and unit's button controls but thumbs-down for the whole plastic enclosure) but over-all, a good alternative to the eGREAT's. However, I use my eGREAT much more than the Novatron of late...  ;D

yeah, sabi nila they'll get it when the pch gets it.  will ask egreat for some answers :P *pitchforks raised and torches a-burning*

Argh!  Why not?  I thought they usually follow the PCH path for firmware upgrade.   :'(

it's a licensing issue, always has been.  i really wonder what's up.  was counting on this update to tide over people who don't have a receiver until they get their brand spanking new onkyo 606's hehe.

I don't think sir that its a hardware limitation of the egreat as all NMTs are pretty much the same. As per PCH forums, the PCH A110 can already downmix DTS successfully. It's either egreat hasn't paid for the license to use DTS yet thereby they aren't allowed yet to activate the DTS downmixing OR the one who adapted the new firmware to egreat systems didn't do a very good job. *shrug*  ???

license! license!  :D . . . I have a receiver but I also need the DTS downmixing feature.  My 2 yr. old kid has been watching his favorite movies over & over and I thought I wud save a lot of elec. bill if I connect my egreat directly to the tv.

Pls. PM price of WD 1TB My Studio.

guys take note, the chapter feature can ONLY be used IF your content has chapters encoded in them.  :)

btw, i've read from other forum boards that egreat hasn't paid for the DTS license yet which is why we cant choose the analog option in the DTS section. Hopefully they can rectify this in the near future...

I suspect the demo unit has a corrupted firmware... perhaps a reflash would make it work again...

OT: maybe to accommodate our storage hunger needs, ehome can import and sell a gadget which have several harddisk slots so that we'll just buy and add hard disk in the future should a need arise. I think this is going to be better and cheaper in the long run rather than buying several WD Mybooks.

Right now, I am making myself contented using this dual-Sata HD enclosure -

    * Supports 2 SATA I/II HD
    * Individual & JBOD Modes
    * USB 2.0 External Interface
    * HD Capacity up to 2TB
    * Front Vents & Rear Active Fan
    * Aluminum Casing

I got 3 of them and they stack up nicely next to each other --- but this one only has USB2.0 interface

Thus, I am also waiting for the local distributor to start selling the other model that has eSATA + USB2.0, shown below ---

# Supports 2 SATA I/II HD
# JBOD, RAID 0/1 Modes
# USB 2.0 & eSATA
# HD Capacity up to 2TB
# Front Vents & Rear Active Fan
# Aluminum Casing

For a multi-bay hard drive enclosure, the lack of eSATA is a concern, in my opinion...but that's because I do a lot of data transfers between hdds.  Hence, I still prefer the double dock with double eSATA.  Cool and fast.  But if you copy data elsewhere and simply playback at home, a single USB2.0 to connect them all to the PC is just fine.

Talked to egreat: it is a licensing thing.  They are currently applying for it, but it's a slow process apparently.  At least we know they're set on getting.  *fingers crossed, knock on your NAS's aluminium casing*

the -real- difference for me would be the remote.  but everything else is the same.  if your main purpose is to watch hd content, then you're not missing anything in that department.  you won't even lose out in the sound department, since you're just using optical -- you won't be able to decode dts-ma/dd-truehd anyway.

Looks pretty nice.  Raid functions, hot swappable, smartguider and all.  How much is this?   I just wonder how hot it can get if the bays are full.

------------------------------------------------------

gren - if im not mistaken nakakapag decode sya ng dd and dts, nung nasa akin yung unit nyo im able to play all the HD content may nakalagay dun sa LED display na DTS something..di ko lang alam kung pwede truehd.

if that's the only difference, 31a na lang ako i can save 2k pang add sa 1tb essentials. ;D

the only problem now is the finance dept. (wife) hehehe

yeah, logitechs decode dts/dd/ac3.

as for finances, ask the folks who've used nmts how this worked out for them :> i mean, storage addiction aside *coughJackRyancough*, it will really keep you at home instead of going out, even (especially) on weekends :>
