Hi  S7A is cool have you seen S800 ? My S7A + S800 shipment is coming in late Feb, pero here's my 2 cents:
a. if you plan to play BDROM (original), only S800 Sigma8643 can play original BD.
on DISK formatting -- Best to use NMT to format it. Its sigma so likely it will have extra partition for its software, (not sure yet coz i have yet to get my S7A).
on DISK RPMs - 5400 rpm and 7200 rpm does not matter much with NMT players, though 7200 RPM generates more heat from experience. I stick with Caviar greens not just for its low cost, , but its more than adequate to keep up with the NMT disk data transfers, but if you foresee more users accessing data over the LAN or WLAN, consider the 7200 RPM
guys I need some inputs regarding 2TB HDD compatibility with Egreat mine is S7A ultra baka kasi may certain model na nde ma-detect  or nde ma-format ng Egreat planning to buy tomorrow. Any brand/model ba that I need to consider? do 5400RPM or 7200RPM makes any difference in watching HD movies? ito ung mga pinagpipilian ko lahat ay 2TB:

for 5400RPM

Samsung ECO green F3/F4
Seagate bararcuda LP
WD caviar green

for 7200RPM

Hitachi Deskstar HD32000
WD caviar black
Seagate Barracuda XT

and another noob question regarding HDD, do I need to format it using PC or NMT?
or plug and play na ung mga HDD? sorry newbie lng ..

Thanks a lot...

sir toys4geeks maraming salamat.. Caviar Green nga yung nakuha ko kahapon
I went back to Egreat Distributor yesterday and they helped me to buy my HDD
they even loaded it with 2TB of Bluray ripped movies at para sure na mag-work ung hard disk
pina-test ko sa S7A nila na nka demo... ;D
You can also check Egreat S2 model with Sigma8643 chip and can play original bluray
very thick alum chasis with gold plated RCA well built. Almost same price ng S7A ultra.

@sir toys4geeks another question nasubukan mo naba mag connect ng 2 x 2TB HDD(JBOD) external using eSATA+ 2TB internal HDD sa Egreat R200 a total of 6TB HDD ?.. I'm planning to add 2x2TB(JBOD mode)
but want to ask first kung magkaka-problema.. Thanks.

wala atang eSATA si S7A mo. so USB 2.0 ang bagsak mo.
  • I have a dual dock  2 x SATA tray, this, I can try tomorrow 1.5TB and 2.0 TB.
  • I also have a 4100 Thecus pero dont have enough disks (1 x 2TB :( bilis kasi mabenta si R200 eh) to reach 3 x 2TB, JBOD).

Question:

Most of the internal HDDs are/were formatted to NTFS and then filled with all sorts of files.  So if anyone wants to install such NTFS HDDs internally, will it work right away or dapat reformatted by Egreat muna?

Players like Mede8er and PCH can work with NTFS drives internally.

Thanks

I think I read somewhere sa net that you can use eSATA to bare SATA connector as long as both have it's own power so yung data pins lang ang gagamitin. I don't know kung possible nga ang ganitong connection. Using USB kasi ay may konting stuttering lalo sa mga malalaking file pero no problem naman with bare SATA even 40+Gb TS files. kahit i-fast forward, jump to a certain part ng movie or using a time search very quick yung response ng unit kaya preferred ko tlaga ang SATA connection than USB. Plan ko kasi kung possible ang ganitong connection then I will buy ung 2 bay 3.5 SATA enclosure with total of 4TB (JBOD) or kung hinde  then hassle ung pag palit-palit ng HDD.. >:(

A:  it work right away.
I speak from  Egreat R200 Pro experience(not sure on other models).
The R200 sees EXT2/EXT3 fs from my Suno HD NMT & an old disk from PCH C200, which is a bonus when connecting to its bare sata as 2nd drive. For mede8er disks, i reclaim space from m8er partitions  using Win7 disk admin.

the bare sata can accomodate 1 drive sa rear, so you'll have max 2 disks(internal and bare SATA) that's a hard limit. if you need more space,  you might consider:

upgrading your disks to bigger ones and transfer contents (i know this is a pain).
use USB (S7A is USB2.0 ) but you are right, it will stutter on your 40GB files,
use  LAN (100 MBPS),  might be a good alternative over USB, but you need to your disk dock/enclosure to support LAN.

note eSATA typically has the same limitation,  unless :
--- a. both disk enclosure eSATA and HD media player's eSATA support port multiplier function(that which makes it see the other drives in your dock, or disk. more lit if you need in www.addonics.com.)
or
----b. if your disk enclosure supports RAID-JBOD over eSATA then HD media player is ok to see 1 device.

i know its a mouthful above, i hope things work your way.

from R200 Pro experience, Egreat releases firmwares as needed. One thing good about the newer ones is it covered all the codec issues given egreat's years experience ahead of the other china players. i would think they address non-codecs since they sorted those back in their past.

While others brands are just catching up on their codec issues, egreat tackles the easier part of  non-codec concerns.

That's the thing with sw development... you need to capture the experiences and put this into the latest and greatest firmware of all time, now that's ideal... but even with microsoft it never happens, with their moneys on R&D to boot.
IMHO -- Machines you can tame, (that's why they are dime a dozen, and cost is flat now) but software, well its always a work in progress. :)

INFO: R200 Pro firmware (1.00.39) now available 1.00.35 -> 1.00.39

Well they were all provided the same SDK by Sigma.  Based on my 31B experience, it was clear that Egreat's FW developers were totally inferior compared to those of Popcorn and Tvix.   Para silang tubero na imbes na palitan yung buong pipe na puno ng butas everywhere, vinulca-seal paisa-isa, but everytime a hole was patched, the other holes kept on bursting - tapos iniwan nalang na ganon in the end.  Kung pelikula ay comedy ang dating, pero kung trabaho ang usapan ay stupidity.  And imbes na ayusin yung pinaka-malaking butas, nag-concentrate sa mga pinholes.  So jack of all trades (on paper) but master of nothing at all.  The 31B was a very frustrating device.

So best wishes sa mga bagong Egreat players in terms of FW support and upgrades

BTW, make sure to keep a back-up of all FWs released by Egreat.  I still have about 5 FW versions of the 31B na pa-palit-palit depende sa pinanood ko.   >:(  Parang kotse na may sports mode, economy mode at standard mode depende sa driving conditions.   Hehehe.   Oh well.

i meant copying disk to disk using R200 vs. a PC saves power bill,  hands down but if you will do massive copying on a big TV, power consumed is about the same.

The R200 is my main player for now, just for the mere convenience of plugging and unplugging disks.  I find R200 mobile disk trays a must have coz of my # disks (small ones < .5TB or less). R200 is good value for money given its SQ and PQ. I cant wait to see how s800 is (sigma chip same as PCH-C200)

I still have a 500x, but i just got tired of flipping it over, connect a disk, and play. I just placed a few nice videos found it a home in my son's room. Nice with M500x is the coverart and about jpegs, but with R200's autopreview movie feature, i'm good.

mede8er 500x comes complete with cables and bag, which is nice for 1st time users but most often cables  you wont need if you have an old setup, may bump the sticker price up a bit.

Please clarify what exactly does this mean. What are the improvements on the Mede8er 500X as you said that you switched from it to the Egreat?

Eto hindi kwentong barbero.

I've known of 3 incidents where an HDD that was internally connected to the Egreat mysteriously lost all data.  I personally restored one of those HDD.

What does anyone say about this?

In my experience, although the internal drive is meant to be used, the safest way to connect HDD is via external route.   And sorry, I would be scared as hell to use an NMT for file management.

Ii ne....ii ne...

First test should be file visibility test Bro.   ;D

Baka ma forced retirement si Egreat 31A bigla?   ;)

Kailangan ma-test ang pure BD rips for the sake of Science (and my future NMT purchase).   ;)

Ouch! anong model at what was last done before your disk lost its contents?

That very same thing happened when i asked someone to move my suno HD (ext fs) to the mede8er's new disk, not sure what happened to my 1.5TB HD movies  but for a few months  it was playing it well with 500x.

I took it to the fellow who sold me the 500x (preowned, and was happy to reload it from my ext fs old disk), i lost my TV series 3 months of download though. Asar talaga.

To think dapat secure na siya sa mede8er kasi walang handling involved sa disk, screwed shut. Was it static discharge?  dont think bad disk kasi i moved that same disk to my R200 since October and been playing since, including downloads ng series.

I swore never again, kaya I got Thecus 4100 pro, andun sa raid yung personal pictures and home videos and favorite 1080p.

Sir, it was 31B egreat. 1TB HDD installed internal. HDD was formatted by egreat. Was watching HD movie then the screen blocked out(Black screen). I reset the unit pero wala na madetect. I already forgot the screen display. Anyways, when I checked the HD files. I can't access anymore. So, I reformat the HDD. Then copied another set of HD files. Since then, I connect my HDD via USB. No problems encountered via USB connection.

Sir toys4geeks you got pm.

cool! thanks for sharing.

the egreat remote is better contoured and with LED, (reserved for the sigma highend i guess).

Did you get a chance to try it with a USB BDROM? I know its not a full featured BDROM player(that's in the S800) but it should be able to do BD simple folders and play.

nice coverwall, siya na automagically nag fetch based on name or folder? kasi si NMJ ng popcorn ko, i had to painstakingly rename the files to discover properly off IMDB and then bring down the cover art and about jpegs.

yup!..automatic fetch based on folder no need to rename..

ung HDD automatic din mag-eject when you open the tray so very convinient naman magpalit..

ngayon sinusubukan ko ung network sharing..

PM me if you do.

I can use another C200 for beta testing new firmware. It's easier for me to have one unit running beta and another having public firmware to easily test for changes.

Here's my new R6B, Thanks to Sir Jim aka toys4geeks for a very nice price.
Used: USB DVD - ok can watch DVD movies with menu
Tried BD ISO - ok with simple menu.

REMARKS: Very solid Full HD media player. Compared to my xtreamer sidewinder and egreat 31b much faster boot and scan time.
Boot time = 3s promise ang bilis.
Size = very portable. Ang liit at hindi maiinit kahit walang fan, considering i watched for 6 hours straight walang kainit init.
Ang ganda ng aluminum casing.
PQ and AQ same with my Egreat 31b SUPERB!
