Topic: Panasonic Plasma or SAmsung LCD?

to all experts  ..
i'm thinking of purchasing a new tv but is not decided which unit to purchase..
i have narrowed down my choice to the PANASONIC 42pv70 plasma or the SAMSUNG LA-40r81b LCD..
can you give me any opinion which would be a better buy??
pasensya na wala kasi akong alam with regards to newer technologies (hdtv, 1080i/1080p, bluray, etc etc..)
i just want to better enjoy my viewing pleasures.. hehehe..
i hope experts and enthusiasts out there could help me out

If you are after picture quality, meaning better blacks and accurate colors, go plasma. And the Panasonic PV70 is a very good choice.   It doesnt mean that it is cheap, it is inferior in quality,  its really the better choice, particularly in movies/DVD viewing.

If ur tight in budget, go for the pana 42pv70 it really is the most practical choice for a 42' flat panel. It offers good quality pictures specially in viewing war films, medieval, and sci fi movies which usually have a lot of dark scenes. The lcd performs better on bright scenes. You can see more details w/ the lcd rather than the plasma.  If ur into gaming the better choice is an lcd but u better take a 1080p capable lcd instead of a 1080i thats if your not willing to spend much for a full Hd now. I suggest the SONY BRAVIA lcd and pair it to a SONY Ps3 so u can enjoy both gaming and Hi Def viewing of bluray movies.

A good way to be convinced if plasma or LCD TV is right for you is to do side-by-side TV comparison. You may wish to visit Sights and Sounds 4th level Shangro-i-La Plaza. We have 42PV70 available, and it is on display with other TVs for your picture evaluation and comparison. We still see the Panasonic PV70 as a good performer. Panasonic PV70 is also a value for money TV.

i agree with this .. switching from lcdtv to plasma (same size), my bill went down from 1.7k to 1.2k ..
but now its up to 1.4k (upgraded my 32" with 42")

I'll go with the Pana plasma

Used to own a Samsung LA32R71...was definitely better than CRT pero medyo dull nga colors compared to my 42PV8. Mas maganda color rendering ng plasma with lights on or off. Yung Sammy dati mas maganda pag lights out -- pag on na hindi na ganun ka deep ang mga colors. By the way, hindi pa calibrated and plasma ko

Kung konti lang difference ng price ng pinagpipilian mo go for the plasma display (IMHO). Pero kung malayo LCD is a very good display din. Pero best is do a side by side...in the end ikaw manonood

Very subjective kung ano mas maganda for gaming dahil animated yung image.  Richness or trueness of color is not that critical din.  Mas fine lang lalabas yung LCD especially kung full HD ang panel, and definitely less reflection.  Nung araw grabe pangit ng Plasma for high def gaming (parang Nintendo dating), pero now hindi na.

For SD cable viewing and DVD mas maganda Plasma.  LCD tends to highlight the lack of definition and all sorts of imperfections of an SD image, while Plasma smoothens it like CRT.  

Pero kung gagamitin mo rin for personal computing yung HDTV mo, panalong panalo ang LCD unless full HD ang kukunin mong Plasma.

I have both plasma (PV8/80) and LCD (LX80,A550,CV500). As much as I would like to say plasma, but your primary use would be for gaming and sometimes when you play too long it creates Image retention that may linger on your unit for days. And hope that your eyes are not sensitive to phosphor lag bec if you are, believe me it may ruin your over-all gaming experience. My plasma is used mainly for cable and dvd/blu-ray, gaming is set at 2 hours max that's it! (and fighting games only) If I'm in the mood for a thumb blistering session, I'd go to my LCD.
