sirs, maybe some one has this setup, pano kaya ang setup here since I want to connect my multiple 1TB WD external harddisk simultaneously to my WDTV?

or kaya baklasin ko na lng yung harddisk inside the enclosure then attach to a RAID unit then connected to WDTV??  ???

parang ganto po..

WD TV has 2 usb ports, try a good quality USB 2.0 hub.

Pag baklasin mo, goodbye warranty ng WD hard drives. If you plan to build your library, then by all means invest in a multi-bay external HD enclosure. They sell this at ehome, also here at the bottom of the thread:

I noticed one thing about the remote.
When I'm using my wdtv to 24" FHD LCD (Samsung), the remote is very responsive, walang delay / lag.
But when I'm using my wdtv to plasma tv (50PV70 and 42PY800), madalas delay, non responsive ang remote.
Anyone encountered the same phenomenon?

Hi rulan,

Was your problem solved? If yes, how did you solve it? I'm having the same problem with my WDTV and a Panasonic plasma TV.

Cheers!

Hello GAOL,

Still the same, not as responsive compared to when I'm using LCD.
Ako pa naman ung taong mahilig magpalit palit at magbrowse ng mga files, watch a bit, then change again,
which I can't do now with my current setup at PY800 dahil nakakainip...

:( I don't switch movies often but I pause or stop what I'm watching every now and then. If I come across a solution, I'll post it here. Thanks!

there was an issue before regarding wdtv's remote control having an inteference with some hdtv's remote. panasonic, i think is one of those who are affected. but afaik wd solved this issue thru firmware upgrade. might be an issue again for newer models, i dont know.

anyway, as far as i can remember the workaround is simple, just cover the tv's remote control receiver. and thats it! hope it helps. you can also google for more info.  ;)

Ah ok. At the wdtv forum, the fix suggested was to put a piece of black tape between the power and USB indicator lights on the WDTV itself. It seems that these lights themselves interfere with the reception of the remote's signals. Will try it later and see. Fingers crossed.  :)

I also hope that will fix it...
But I still can't seem to understand why it only happens in panny plasma.
To cover something on the plasma makes more sense like what sir lucky23 first mentioned.
Anyway, it won't hurt to try.  ;)

Actually it doesn't happen only with Panasonic plasma. The ones having problems in the WDTV forum have various LCD TVs and varying brands too. In most cases, their problem has to do with their TV's energy saver feature, or light sensor feature, such as the C.A.T.S. (Contrast Automatic Tracking System) on some Panasonic plasma TVs:

"Some TVs and other electronic devices leak or emit IR that can interfere with the WDTV's ability to receive signals from the remote. The WDTV's IR receiver is located between the two LEDs on the front of the unit. The small plastic oval in the front center of the unit is actually a special kind of IR-permeable plastic. The WDTV is intended to be fairly sensitive to IR so that you don't need to point your remote directly at it to get a response. However, this means that in the presence of devices that emit IR, you may experience problems with IR interference. A crude solution to this issue is to cut down on the amount of IR that reaches the IR receiver by applying some tape around the receiver to reduce its field of view. This is not an officially supported or endorsed solution, but it may resolve your IR interference issues.

In some cases, the TVs that emit IR do it as part of a power saving feature which can be disabled. If available, this might be a better way to resolve this issue."

Btw, the tape fix seems to be working somewhat. Now I can navigate (pause, FF, rewind, etc.) while watching a movie, but if you press a button immediately after starting a movie, it takes a while still.  So the above explanation may have something to it. I hope this is it. If the tape fix didn't work, I would try turning off the C.A.T.S. feature and see.  :)

According to the Western Digital website, the WDTV supports the following file formats:

"External Drive Formats Supported
FAT32, NTFS, HFS+ (no journaling)"

The Western Digital My Book Studio Edition by default is formatted for Apple Mac OS systems, and uses the Mac OS file format: HFS+ with journaling.

It's a good thing though that playback is supported so you can still enjoy the files in the My Book Studio.

My best guess is to reformat the WD into the correct file system.  If you can or kasya, backup mo sa pc mo before reformatting.  If not, I'm not sure about this, but you can try partitioning it.  Make a new partition using the proper file system.  Transfer your files into that new partition.  If it works, then reformat the original partition into the proper file system.

Yes, reformatting to NTFS (so it can support video files larger than 4GB) would be best. But if you're using a mac, you can read only and not write to an NTFS formatted drive (there's a workaround mentioned by ditoy_eagle in one of the threads here).

I installed the latest dvdmod firmware....i got my ext dvdrom to work w/ the wdtv.
But after several tests, i noted that the dvdrom would spontaneously
stop for no reason....could this be a firmware bug? how do i fix it?
Thanks!
