thanks... hopefully the up coming firmware updates can fix this...
BTW... what if i have a defective remote, do they sell spare ones?
I'm trying to find out if they sell extra remotes. I'll post here if they do. I want to use a second remote whenever I take the WD out of the house.
However, if your remote is defective, they should replace it without charge, not sell you a new one.
As for the My Passport power-off, I don't consider it a bug. I compared the WD vs. my PC, and behavior of the My Passport was the same for both.
Connect the My Passport to the PC and the disc spins. The USB light stays on even if the disc is not being read, and the light will only turn off only when the PC is shut down. Eject the My Passport and the disc stops spinning, but the USB light stays on; however, you will have to unplug and replug the USB to access the disc again. Same behavior on the WD.
The WD power-off via remote merely causes the WD to go into sleep mode. An absolute power cut-off would not be good because it will prevent you from powering it on again via remote, since the WD will not function via remote if the unit itself has no standby power. Remember that there are no buttons on the WD unit itself.
I use a power strip with individual illuminated switches, and it works fine. They're available in any hardware store at the malls:
An external power switch is a convenient way to turn the WD and My Passport fully off. I prefer flicking a switch rather than having to plug and unplug sockets repeatedly. Medyo mahal lang, kasi may circuit breaker included.
