Yes, I'm sure they had to bring down the price since the new SR4500 is only P17+ in 5th Avenue. I'm sure you can't go wrong with both models but the newer SR4500 has the more expensive CS49400 processor which is only available with the SR6400 and SR7400.

The 49400 is the same processor that more expensive pre-pros like the Rotel RSP-1068  (P85k yata) also uses.

By the way, according to 5th avenue, the P17k for the SR4500 is an introductory price only. I wonder if it's true or they were just telling me that so I will buy it already.  :)

to get an idea of prices, you might like to do a product search at yahoo.com.  the sr4400 ranges from $325-$400 or about P18,300 - P22,500 assuming P56.25/$1.00.  That's before shipping costs.  The sr5400 and sr6400 goes up to $440 and $519 (P25,000 & P29,200), respectively.  hope this helps.

Marantz SR4500 is also available at SM Appliances Megamall, selling for 17.5K.
Any reviews with this?

sir,

thanks,
 :)

I agree with Vhongbiker, go for 4500 kung 3k difference lang.

I used to have an all B&W 601 setup with my Marantz SR7200 and the combination is sweet. Warmness of the Marantz plus detail of the B&W.

I sold my Marantz SR7200 to a friend of mine who has B&W 602S3 sa front and 601S3 sa rear and super happy siya sa combintation.

Go for the 4500 since it has better processing. With P3k difference, sulit iyon.

Another thing to consider about Marantz 4400 or 4500 ay yung 6.1/7.1 pre-outs nya. Kahit entry level lang eh may option ka to connect a power amp.

Once I have a dedicated HT room, Im getting a  multi-channel power amp paired with Mordaunt Short 500 THX series.   Epektib yung for both music at movies.

Hi allvin_98,

Anong speakers gamit mo? Baka naman speakers or room treatment or yung source player mo ang matining. So far, I've tried the Marantz with Wharfedale, B&Ws, and Dynaudio and warm siya.

And of course, marami pang ibang features ang SR5500 na baka kailanganin mo in the future.

Hi Myki,

Wharf 8.4 speaker gamit ko and nasa small room category ang room ko, described in the manual.I used generic player for vcd and dvd. my dvd player is skyworth brand which i believed have a good performance, connected to my amp using optical cable.

Actually napansin ko lang na matining cya coz i have a friend that have a combi of wharf-HK eh. Hindi naman cya matining.

Thanks

Hmmmmm.... here are the only possible things I can think of:

1. wrong setting sa receiver? maybe subwoofer is ON even if you don't have one? Try setting all speakers as LARGE, then make sure that the speaker distances are correctly entered.

2. bright room? maybe you have bare walls or glass windows. Marble floors? Too much reflections would make the sound bright. Try to add room treatments like curtains (gumamit ka muna mga kumot to test if the sound changes), pillows, etc.

4. Maraming hindi naniniwala that cables make a difference but what kind of speaker cables do you use? Sa wharfedale's ko dati gumanda yung sound when I bi-wired using 14 ga. speaker wires.

Yun lang ang inputs ko. :-)

Any speaker set-up will sound bright in a lively untreated room.  Your speaker sensitivity can actually measure 6db more than its rated anechoic sensitivity, especially for the mids-to-highs.  The finest and most expensive systems have been heard to sound crap in an untreated room.  While the more modest ones can approach the ideal flat response in an accoustically treated room.

I am one of those who don't believe in usng exotic speaker cables to make any sonic difference.  But I believe the thicker they are and the better their connectors are built, the better.  Bi-wiring has its debatable merits as well.  But for me, bi-wiring simply widens the signal path.  Single well constructed Oxygen free gauge 10 cables are said to be the best.  Pure silver might even be better.  Having a bi-wire using a couple of 12-guage cables is just as good, if not better.  But that assumes your receiver or amp's speaker binding posts  can accommodate such gauges.

But for your problem of speaker brightness, I strongly suggest you treat your AV room.  There are sites on the net that give tips on how to do this, just do a google search.   Remember that what goes to your ears are shaped by the room accoustics.  Getting the right gears and speakers is for me just 1/3 of the way to sonic nirvana.  Another third is the choice of audiophile-grade sources.  The last third is the room accoustics.  Many audiophiles opine it's more than that.  Could go up to 50% of the way.

I am with you, avphile!  ;D

I always use #10 AudioPro OFC - dirt cheap.

In the other forum exotic cables tends to be more capacitive and affect amp/speaker synergy - I read this as "more money for less performance". Did not waste my time this route to improve my sound system.

The GC I think can make far more improvement than wires.  ;D

After Marantz, use the pre-out for an all-GC power amp. Am dead sure it will rock the whole house.

Wala pa bang ibang bumili ng SR4500 or SR5500?

I would like to hear what the others think about this unit.

By the way, I discovered a quirk.... although minor lang naman: If you connect your DVD player's video out straight to your TV, then you don't need the video circuitry in the receiver. So this new Marantz has Video-Mute feature where you can switch off the entire video circuitry.... which will save power, probably lessen heat, and make it sound better. Problem lang is that after you switch off the AVR, the video circuitry is enabled again. I end up switching it OFF everytime I switch the AVR on. It would have been better if I can switch off the video permanently. Yun lang!  :)

Yun lang!  :)

pare sounds like a bug... you need to release a build patch for that :-) <joke>

I consider it as a feature not a bug..

Why?... it is very helpful to those first timer and to those who are not very familiar with the function of the receiver.
Baka yung di familiar na gagamit eh mag panic pag walang makitang video....
