Bibilin ko ba 'tong The American? VIVA eh. Pero I really want to watch it. :|

WAG!  One glance at it and I know it's crappy.  Sayang for such a good movie.  You can order from amazon ( from various pinoydvd members ) a good R1 USED widescreen for only less than P500 with shipping na yun!

Yeah. Kakabanas. Aantayin ko pa yung Beastly sana on DVD, kaso I found out na Viva na (hindi na Sony, grrrr) ang magrerelease. I'll still catch it in theaters, but I'm hundred yards away from buying the DVD.

I suggest why don't we go for dvd's which has a sign imported. They have trailers, DD EX, DTS ES, for sound. And they really won't play on region 1 players. :)

Scream 3 was actually been re-released by Viva under the Buena Vista distribution. Complete in a Scream Boxed Set. I saw one at SM city Sucat.

It's quite disapointing from VIVA to use cheap DVD cases on their Disney Movies nowadays and not including DVD Guides on them.

I have a 2003 DVD of Finding Nemo which was my first DVD and despite VIVA making it, it feels like a Region 1 DVD with a very complete DVD guide. I bought the Diamond Edition DVD of Beauty and the Beast a few days ago and the labeling on the DVD itself is so poor and it has no DVD guide at all. but other than that, It has a good quality image and good sound.

It's quite sad for the movie industry for home entertainment here. Because of movie downloads, it kiils the DVD industry.

To add: It's not VIVA's fault for the Disney DVD of Tangled only having one bonus feature. Disney is putting most of its Bonus features for their movies on Blu-ray.

Transfer for "The Way Back" is ok. PQ is good and in anamorphic WS with subs. No audio options though and special features. Worth buying if it already goes down to 150-250 range.

Other "checked" Viva DVDs that are worth considering:

1. The King's Speech (Anamorphic WS with Special Features) - DVD5
2. The Way Back (Anamorphic WS) - DVD5
3. Milk (Anamorphic WS with Special Features) - DVD5

I checked "The Beaver", it has subs but is poorly transferred "fool" screen version.

Is THE KING'S SPEECH in sale na? Last I checked it was stil P750, awfully expensive for a VIVA dvd.

ALL GOOD THINGS is also in WS w/ special features.

you should also avoid movies like:

Nanny Diaries
Serendipity
Van Helsing

This dvd's na distributed by VIVA are not worth it though mura lang sia, kasi these are vcd copies na gnawang dvd so expect na hindi ganun kaganda ung quality, though I would say na ung Van helsing maganda ang special features pero ung quality ng movie hindi maganda hindi high definition o digital remastered.
Plus be very careful po sa pagpili kasi my mga movies na distributed by VIVA pero etong mga movies na to may dvd version na released tlga ng original distributor so much better buy nio na lang o ung imported.
ung harap and gilid ng dvd may label o small icon po yan sa baba na halimbawa universal,dreamworks,warnerbrothers..so maasure nio na quality tlga na quality ung dvd na may logo po nun.
And when buying dvd na distributed by VIVA,mag research po muna kau kasi may mga dvd's na released na mga collectors edition so might as well buy nio na un kesa sa hindi collectors Item, nakabili po ako last week lang ng  The incredibles collectors item for 199 samantalang ung release ng viva ng hindi collectors item 299.so suggest q na mag google or wikepedia nio muna para sulit tlga ung mabili nio na dvd ng fave films nio.

Some Viva-released dvd's which i bought are cheap, however, the quality is inferior.Classic example of the saying " you get what you pay for".

Oh well, just sharing my opinion on this thread.  This is the #1 reason why it is much better to buy pirated dvds nowadays because of its better quality than the original ones released by Viva.  You can't blame people especially who are movie buffs to purchase or download movies that are pirated but with better resolution in terms of PQ and complete AQ (with DD and DTS at most).  Honestly, I did purchase a lot of DVDs even in the past which are pirated pero tatalunin pa quality ng mga orig.  I tried to buy orig ones like Ultimate Avengers and Lost In Space but uhh..it really disappointed me! Pero if you play them on an HDMI player with upscaling..I bet para ka na ring naka-BD player bcoz of being high def in terms of PQ and superb audio with DD and DTS pa!

Well,  that is true. There are lots of pirated dvd's which resolution are better than  some, in not most, of Viva's releases, nonetheless, we should not patronize pirated dvd's for it is detrimental to our economy.
