Media Player  Classic for me. ;) ;D

No Stutter, no Hungs, and less processing noted, that you can always multi-task(of course, while watching, those not resource intensive, like video rendering) ;)

Most versatile would be VLC

But KMP and MPC are better in terms of 720p and 1080p.

Try this link... its the home of MPC Homecinema...

http://mpc-hc.sourceforge.net/

I've been using this since november last year and it never fails on 720p and 1080p... and i'm using DXVA really saves on CPU usage... 2~5% only.... even on 1080p

The next best thing is the KMP... If your an advance user try this it has more tweaks...

and lastly the XBMC... really nice GUI...

I still find MPCHC better... ano GPU ng AMD sempron mo? kung may maganda kang video card or on board video kayang kaya talaga yan... especially if you use DXVA... because it does not use the CPU...

It's the processor and RAM of your pc which are the culprits and not your video card. It will really choke when playing mkv files lalo na kung 1080p. Dun mo sa laptop i-play yung mkv mo, you will see the difference. Even though I don't guarantee that all your movies will play smoothly, at least mas okay ang core 2 sa Sempron.

It still find MPC HC superior than kmp. IMO  :)

MPC home cinema... tested on my stuttering 1080p mkv's on my laptop using VLC. mas feature rich and user friendly lang ang VLC imho... so i have both installed.

at first i used the K-lite mega pack codec with MPC-HC bundled. slow mo ang video. audio okay lang. .... out of sync siya...

just now nag research ako sa matroska.org ...... I downloaded videolan (VLC) player ...

while downloading I back read a little and nag download ako coreAVC 1.8.5 .... after installing VLC ... playable na yung MKV files ko no problem ..... and I installed the coreAVC just the same :) afterward i ran the MPC-HC at ayus na siya :)

just a while ago i tried playing BDrips sa lcd tv via laptop .....

ried both videolan and MPC ....

I like the MPC due to its ability to access advance controls of each filters....

pwede na malimutan ang WDTV muna ;D

Been tinkering with Moovida (an open source medial center) lately.  Looks like a promising alternative to XBMC.  Try it out! ;)

i've tried GOM, VLC, MPC, & KMP... all works well with DivX or XVid but only KMP & MPC works flawlessly on all of my H.264 files... others freezes or stutters the video...

I installed Media Portal in my PC and when I ran it, it go stuck with "Initializing DirectX...".  I already installed NET Framework 3.5 and Direct X 9.0 in my PC.

What I did is pressed Ctrl+Alt+Delete then I can see in the taskbar Microsoft VMR9 (outdated).  When I closed this, it went straight to the Main Menu of Media Portal.  ??? I tried to access my MKVs in my external HDD but MP can't seem to identify them.  I tried my SD files and the titles came out and I was able to play them.

I am using CoreAVC and  MPC as my external player.  Any help would be appreciated.  Thanks!

using primarily KMP nowadays ... was previously using more of MPC, but for some reasons i'm encountering noise on audio on some of the newer titles, hence i just have it as backup

i tried VLC for a short time, but encountered a lot of stuttering on 1080p files and have noted very high cpu utilization, hence i stopped using it
