Ok din yung next na laban. Aldo vs Korean Zombie and Machida vs Davis.

Brazilians really know how to fight. damn... But Machida should have won that one too.

Lutoooooooooo!  >:(

Anyway, maganda match-ups sa UFC 164, may laban ulit si Brandon Vera, hopefully he can come up with an impressive win against Rothwell.

Lightweight    Benson Henderson (c)    vs.    Anthony Pettis
Heavyweight    Frank Mir                    vs.    Josh Barnett
Featherweight    Chad Mendes            vs.    Clay Guida
Heavyweight    Ben Rothwell               vs.    Brandon Vera
Featherweight    Erik Koch                 vs.    Dustin Poirier

I gave rounds 1 and 3 to Machida and round 2 to Davies. It was a close fight but I think the judges gave more weight to the takedowns than the effective striking.

true! ok na din yan e, para maging motivation na din sa mga fighters to give all out every fight. yung iba nga kasi play safe lalo pag maganda ang record at ayaw ma-tarnish ng loss.

most brazilians do...but machida..parang dapat mag iba na sya ng style.  minsan nanalo sya sa ganun (vs hendo), last time talo (vs. davis)  nakaka inip na rin.  unless matuto sya mang taunt tulad ni silva para mag engage kalaban nya.

I thought that Machida was masterful in that fight. Everything from brilliant counter-striking to excellent takedown defense. Those judges are either really stupid or maybe the fight was fixed. Why should Machida change his fighting style to make up for their incompetence?

Quote
When you take into account the way the judges scored things as well, it becomes even more absurd. At the very least, the third round was clearly Machida's, as he stuffed several takedowns and out-struck Davis. It didn't even seem in question, so when the scores were all read 29-28 in Davis' favor, the assumption was that each judge gave him the first two rounds.

Turns out that wasn't even the case, as judge Chris Watts scored the second and third for Davis, while giving Machida the first. Judges Sal D'Amato and Rick Wintergrave scored the first two for Davis.

Final numbers for the fight support that it was close without a ton going on, but they still support Lyoto Machida being the more effective fighter of the two in each frame.

FightMetric's post fight numbers breakdown, along with their effectiveness scoring for the fight, has Machida unsurprisingly winning the fight, and actually has him taking all three rounds. Though the margin of strikes was thin in the second, almost the entirety of Davis' offense came in a 30 second spurt at the end of the round. In the first, his one minute on top with little offensive output came after four minutes where Machida had done more.

This is all to say that, once again, judges got a fight very much wrong, and it was one which had title implications. It's unfortunate and sad that the reaction continues to be "don't leave it in the hands of the judges" and not "hold these people accountable." The fact that there continues to be no ramifications for poor judging performances means this is going to keep happening.

Quote
The UFC app said that Davis landed 68 strikes and was 6/8 on takedowns, yet FightMetric stats had Machida winning 30-27, and counted Davis as completing only 2 of 10 takedowns Either the person doing the stats for the UFC app is a damn idiot, or those numbers were tweaked to support the UFC's preferred outcome. Davis now holds wins over #1 Lyoto Machida, #2 Alexander Gustafsson, and #5 Antonio Rogerio Nogueira. That demands a title shot over Glover Teixeira or Daniel Cormier, yet somehow, despite this being what the UFC wanted, I don't see it happening. I feel for Machida who has been screwed yet again.

^ I don't know if that's enough to merit a win, dalawa lang 'yun take downs one take down in round 1 and 1 in round 2. 'Yung effective defense sa take down noong round 3, wala bang score 'yun? If that's the case, baka isipin ng ibang fighters na maka take down lang sila kahit isa bawat round kahit talo sila sa striking sila pa din mananalo. Talo si Davis sa striking, pinakita naman sa HL ng bawat rounds.

wala eh ganun talaga i remember nung ultimate fighter 1, chris leben complained saying "this is the UFC not ultimate wrestling championship", referring to koscheck doing nothing but takedowns which gives him the W.

they can complain all they want, dapat lang maging motivation sa kanila yan not to rely on the judges to decide the outcome. finish opponents everytime dapat. that should be their goal.

nyeh  :P

Motivation na pala ang incompetent judging ngayon. If anything, the Machida-Davis decision will encourage fighters that they can get away with "lay-and-pray" tactics, even if only at a brief period at the end of rounds.

Shogun vs Chael coming up next. Interesting to see kung may natutunan nga si Shogun sa short training nya kay Freddie Roach.
