The need to update firmware
« on: Aug 04, 2008 at 03:36 PM »
Just got the Bluray Mummy last weekend and having completed viewing the special features I decided to view the movie itself. But to my surprise the Sony BDP S301 stopped two seconds after I pressed the PLAY button.  It took about 2 minutes to  reload the BD but again the player behaved the same. I tested on my other BD discs but it played normally. So my impression is  that the problem is with the Mummy BD only.

Will this case warrants a firmware update? Anyone who experienced the same with their standalone BD player? Opinion please... TY  ;)

Yung National Treasure 2 BD has a warning that it might take longer for some players to load baka ganun yung nangyari sa Mummy BD but not sure.

The problem bro with the disc is that it automatically unloads and goes back to the "on" status of the player. I have to press the "play" button again to proceed.

Just recently upgraded to FW 3.95 and it played the BD "the mummy" flawlessly now. This version was rumored to internally decode the DolbyTrueHD but Sony never confirmed this. Now with the new FW 4.20 Sony openly admitted this now. I hope next time DTS-HD MA comes next through another firmware update.

How do you upgrade firmware?

depends on the hardware you bought, these new generation of players have a lan port for you to connect to the internet and have the player automatically update its own player hence making new features available after the update. some people are alienated by this activity that is why some players like the ps3 offers update through its usb port, so you can manually download the firmware from the internet through a pc then load the firmware to a usb flash disk then update it manually through the players usb port. some game console make available new firmwares by putting the new firmware into the newer game releases that they have and once you pop the game the first time it will ask you that you have to update firmware to be able to continue playing the game (the wii does this).

so there are a variety of ways to do it, all equally effective.

I successfully upgraded my Sony BDP-S300 from Firmware 3.90 to 4.30.  Player behaved better. Shorter loading time.

sony BDP-S300 has a firmware of 4.40 now.

Mga sirs, tanong lang. Am using the sony BDP S301 (US version, 110V, Reg A-BD, Reg 1 DVD), stocked pa yung firmware at version 3.9 yata. I tried downloading the FW 4.4 upgarde, I followed the instruction of downloading almost 5 CD's tried  (wasted), but still my player displays "cannot play this disk". Any advise is highly appreciated. Is there any probelm in region settings? Where can I request or buy for a downloaded firmware na and ready to insert sa player?

Many Thanks.

My company issued laptop has the Roxio Easy Cd Creator 5, burned the FW4.5 with it into the CDR, but my BRDS301 always displays " Cannot Read this disc"  then "Data CD" display. Really need your advise on how to download this.  What CD burning system have you used (succesfully)?  Do I need to format the blank CDR?

Thanks.

Bro Ganicru under BACKUP of NERO, use the BURN IMAGE TO DISC option to burn the ISO file of the FW 4.50;)

Some instructions i followed... this is for the FW 4.30 but this is generally the same with the way you update 4.30 to 4.40 or 4.50  ;D
