Title: Survivor: Blood Vs. Water (Palaui Island, Cagayan)
Post by: Mr. Hankey on May 14, 2013 at 09:37 AM
I guess it's cheap to film in the Philippines, since despite the fact that there were no fish for them to spear in Caramoan and the Survivors were starving and going crazy as a result, they're coming back this week to start filming the new season.

Here's a list of the returning contestants, who will supposedly be on one tribe, while their loved ones will be on the other.

Tyson Apostol, Tocantins, Heroes vs. Villains
Aras Baskauskas, Panama
Rupert Boneham, Pearl Islands, All-Stars, Heroes vs. Villains
Monica Culpepper, One World
Colton Cumbie, One World
Kat Edorsson, One World
Laura Morett, Samoa
Gervase Peterson, Borneo
RC Saint-Amour, Philippines
Tina Wesson, Australia, All-Stars

I'm not sure how I can stand another season of Rupert... AND of Colton.

Location: The BUZZ is... that the Philippines will again be host for the next 2 seasons, with 27 and 28 being shot back to back.

Theme: Again, the BUZZ is... S27 will be Favorites Vs Family. With 1 tribe being past players and the other tribe being members of their family.

Yeah. Plus Jeff Probst was quoted saying he likes how the locals work (building the challenges). I think the producers think they are very cheap too.

Here's a description of the islands where Season 27 will be shooting and some pictures too:

I hope Penner returns.....

Used to go there when we were kids until high school. Hindi pa sikat yan and locals bring visitors and other relatives na dumalaw but not commercially advertised. I wonder how the place have changes since I haven't been there for some years now.

I hope they come up with new sets of challenges for reward and immunity. Some are just the same from the previous seasons.  :)

Yes. I was actually hoping that they would incorporate local games like sungka, patintero/harangang taga, etc to the challenges in the previous two seasons but alas, it seems the challenge designers did not do their research in said aspect.

It would be great also if Probst would introduce the challenge by saying, "Your challenge is based on a local game here in the Philippines called Sungka, but instead of playing with pebbles or fruit seeds or sea shells, you will be moving watermelons to holes scattered in this field equals to two football fields. One one of you would be the caller who will decide from what hole you will start. This challenge needs strategy, and concentration as you will be trying to remember which holes has how many number of watermelons..."

That would be a challenge that will be very physical challenge but mental as well.

Been to Palaui once, way back in the mid-90's. Went there as a side trip to the Callao Caves of Cagayan. At that time, the place was practically free from commercial tourism. Good memories of fantastic places....

Too bad Candice was sent off to Redemption. She's an amazing player.

I don't understand how Colton got zero votes to be the first person voted off. I've never hated any player more.

Does anyone remember Laura M? None of my friends do. We have no idea who she is, what she did, or why she was invited back. She's not even eye candy.

What?!? As a fan of Survivor for 27 seasons now, I'm sure you know Colton is the person to take into the finals :)

If he makes the finals and wins, I'm done with this show. We already had the "asshole redeems himself" storyline with Cochran last season.

He was an idiot. I think he wanted the clue for his wife so badly that he wasn't thinking straight. Iniwan niya yung 9th piece na hindi diretcho. He could have just taken his time and finished second.

Hindi ko alam bat ang OA ng mga tao sa Survivor. Akala mo pag na-vote out o na-eliminate ang tao hindi mo na makikita habang buhay. It's just a game people. Is it the million dollars that makes them act this way? Kung $10,000 lang ang premyo, hindi ba sila magaarte ng ganyan?

I think it's the result of a combination of many external factors:

1. Stranded on an island
2. With people you don't like
3. No proper nutrition
4. Boredom and paranoia sets in
5. Knowledge that you are being filmed
6. and so forth and so on

Contestants are also chosen and thrown into the group based on their psych profiles

madali lang sabihin lahat ng bagay. pero pag andun na sa isla whole new experience. it will really mess with your mind.

All of that is valid except that in this case it's still very early and these are returning players who should already know what to expect.

I suppose your last reason makes the most sense, hehe. Wouldn't do to have stoic, unaffected individuals in this game. Won't make for compelling TV.

I think the only reason for the drama is for each player's own 15 minutes of fame.

i wonder about the next challenge in redemption.

if candice wins what about the clue? will probst give the option to the winner to not give the clue to anyone?

the place is still the same..even the highly publicized " boracay of the north"  anguib beach is not commercialized as well. The only commercial center that is thriving is the sun city casino in sta ana

I believe the rule is that the winner (redemption island challenge) 'must give' the clue to anyone.

She can give it to anyone, so she can give it to any returning player who didn't vote her out, right?

yup. Probst made it clear that the winner can give the clue to anyone on any tribe

Though I hate the concept of REdemption Island

I love it here because of the layers added by the blood/water angle.

if you give it to your friend/loved one, they become a target

if you give it to your enemies, they become a target also but you help them find the idol

even voting out somebody can haunt you not only because the person may come back but the love one of that person may take revenge after the merge.

Survivor is now very complicated. I love it

Great play by Vytas.  Kat got caught with her hand in the cookie jar and Vytas hammered it in non-stop.

And the most interesting part of the episode is after Kat got voted out, she was so worried about being such a dissapointment to Hayden and how this might affect their relationship!

"Who wants to date someone who can't make it to the merge?"

I love Kat!

R.I.P., Caleb.

Quote
Caleb Bankston, who competed on Survivor: Blood vs. Water, died when the train he was on derailed on Tuesday, PEOPLE has confirmed through multiple sources.

Bankston, 26, worked at the Alabama Warrior Railway in Birmingham. He competed on Survivor: Blood vs. Water in 2013 alongside his fiancé, Colton Cumbie, ending the game in ninth place.

News of the accident has sent shockwaves through the Survivor community.

"Caleb was an amazing man and friend," fellow contestant Aras Baskauskas tells PEOPLE. "One of the sweetest and most sincere humans I've ever come across. I am gutted by his loss. My thoughts and prayers are with his family."

Adds Sabrina Thompson, who competed on Survivor: One World with Cumbie: "While playing Survivor with Colton, he would talk about his boyfriend, Caleb, around the clock 24/7. Within seconds of meeting Caleb at the finale and Survivor events, it's no wonder why he raved about him. You were instantly drawn to his big smile, warm spirit and Southern charm. May God rest his soul … gone too soon."

Bankston is the third Survivor contestant to pass away since the show premiered. In 2010, Jenn Lyon, who placed fourth on Survivor: Palau, died after a six-year battle with breast cancer.

Last year, original Survivor contestant BB Anderson died of brain cancer at age 77.
