Title: House MD on AXN
Post by: keilu on Aug 08, 2005 at 07:45 AM
there's this new series that will be premiering on AXN on August 16 at 10 pm.  Hugh Laurie is the guy that plays Dr. House, and won the award for Individual achievement in Drama at the 21st Annual Television Critics Assoc Awards.

The trailers look promising, the main character, Dr. Gregory House is so darn sarcastic its so darn funny  >:D  As AXN puts it:

"Meet Dr Gregory House - television's most unlikely hero: blunt, smug, caustic, with a knack for delivering piercing one-liners and no bedside manners to speak of. Yet in spite of his flaws, he is a brilliant diagnostician who saves lives using the most unconventional methods"

There are some great one liners in this series: c/o axn link here: http://www.axn-asia.com/buzzsites/house/2005/07/29/house-ism.html, which i am posting below

Courtesy of Dr. Gregory House, M.D.

Overworked, underpaid and under-appreciated? We understand! So straight from the mouth of Dr. Gregory House, we present the House-isms you will need to survive the work-day.

Warning: Use at your own risk.

1. House-ism: "I'm too handsome to do paperwork"
To use when: Your colleague asks you to file a document.

2. House-ism: "Are you comparing me to God? I mean, that's great, but so you know, I've never made a tree."
To use when: Your boss asks you to do the impossible (again).

3. House-ism: "Check for evil stepmothers. This much sleep usually indicates poison apples."
To use when: You catch your colleague falling asleep at work.

4. House-ism: " It turns out your best judgment is not good enough. Here's an idea: next time, use mine"
To use when: Your boss made a mistake.

5. House-ism: "I hired you because you look good. It's like having a nice piece of art in the lobby"
To use when: Your subordinate asks you why you don't listen to his/her opinion.

6. House-ism: "Perseverance does not equal worthiness. Next time you want to get my attention, wear something fun."
To use when: Someone's been trying desperately to get your attention.

7. House-ism: "Could we get off my screw-ups and focus on theirs? Theirs is bigger."
To use when: Your boss tells you you've made a mistake.

8. House-ism: "Everyone knows what's wrong with me. What's wrong with him is much more interesting."
To use when: Your colleague asks, "What's wrong with you?"

Excellent show. When I started watching it, I thought the cases presented were a bit too technical for audiences who aren't in the medical field, but the show's ratings proved me wrong.

House is a fun look at differential diagnoses for a variety of symptoms presented for the "disease of the week." It's a bit formulaic, but the interesting cases and sardonic comments of Hugh Laurie's character make the show work really well.

Okey tong doktor na to.  Sarcastic.  Natawa ako dun sa pakita na kinakausap nya yung babae.

He told the woman, "You have a parasite inside you, it's growing and it has your eyes!!"  hahahahaha!! Buntis pala!!!

last tuesday's episode about the "parasite growing inside you" was soo darn funny  ;D

Dr. House accepted taking care of the pre-natal care of the pregnant woman just so he could hang out at the ob-gyne's lounge where a tv is accessible and a lazy boy is right in front of the tv so he could watch his fave soap  ;D

It's so hard to believe that Hugh Laurie is Stuart Little's dad!  :o

Ah, but I believe the origins of Dr. House can be seen in his role in "Sense and Sensibility".  ;D

(off-topic)

Did you read about the New Hampshire doctor who's under investigation for his tactless remarks to his patients? Apparently he's been channeling Dr. House a bit too much. :D

CONCORD, New Hampshire - The state is investigating a doctor accused of telling a patient she was so obese she might only be attractive to black men and advising another to shoot herself following brain surgery.

"Let's face it, if your husband were to die tomorrow, who would want you?" the state Board of Medicine says Dr. Terry Bennett told the overweight patient in June 2004. "Well, men might want you, but not the types you want to want you. Might even be a black guy," it quoted him as saying, based on the woman's complaint.

The board said it also is taking a second look at a 2001 allegation that Bennett told a woman recovering from brain surgery to buy a pistol and shoot herself to end her suffering. Bennett added that he is angry the board is reconsidering the 2001 complaint. "That patient is currently in a nursing home completely demented, tied to a chair drooling on herself and doesn't recognize anybody," said Bennett, 67.

Bennett said he tells obese patients that their weight is bad for their health and their love lives, and is outraged by what he calls a baseless complaint. "Did I sleep with somebody? Did I give somebody drugs? Was I careless? No. End of story," Bennett said. "That should have been the end of it."

 ;D

I just saw an episode (for the first time) on AXN.  I caught the episode about the sick nun.

Does anyone know if the region 3 dvd of the 1st season is available?

Thanks.

Love this show. It's kinda like a doctor you'd rather just watch than let him treat you. I wouldn't. Anyway, is it true that the R1 DVD Release is double sided?

My fave House-ism:
"You wouldn't know Prada if one stepped on your scrotum"  ;D

Hugh Laurie won for Best Actor (Drama) at the recent Golden Globes.

Geena Davis won for Best Actress (Commander-in-Chief, ABC). Kung nanalo sana si Nathan Lane, we'd have a sweep by Stuart Little's family (dad, mom, cat).  :)

Just found out that McDreamy auditioned for the part of Dr. Chase according to Dr. Cameron. They auditioned together. Patrick Dempsey must have been relieved now that he didn't get the part.

Chose to see this finale instead of Idol's. Heard it was boring. House's finale this season was mind-boggling. Worth seeing again and again. Plus, it had Elias Koteas!

Idol propels House and Fox to their best ratings ever (http://www.variety.com/article/VR1117958410.html?categoryid=14&cs=1&nid=2565)

This week's House became the season's highest-rated scripted episode, edging out Grey's Anatomy and logging what might be Fox's highest-rated night ever.

The same episode was also its most polarizing ever. Personally, I dug it because it veered away from its formula. I always look forward to these kinds of episodes, especially if it's written by creator David Shore (who really deserved that Emmy for Three Stories). Now that Hugh has won a Globe and a SAG, that Emmy better be next.

This week's episode was sorta Dead Poets Society reunion. Neil Perry's dad guest stars. Also, Dave Matthews!
