the black scenes in the pv 80 is blacker than the pv 70.. colors are much vivid and lively than the 70 hmm...
i agree with regulus... went to theater works and saw the pana and samsung plasma side by side..
kaya regulus post pic na!!! ;D congrats for the upgrade..
ang ganda ng pv80!! :o ganda narin ang design.. but is this good as pc monitor compare to pv70??
havnt tried pc w/this unit yet. But im sure it would be better than the previous pv70 model, even its not 1368x768 yet. Anyone would like to test? drop by sa shop and do some testing. ;D
I used to work for Fujitsu, and we regularly used 42-inch plasma TV's for output of PC/laptop displays for presentation purposes .... there has never been an issue with PC image quality even on older generation plasma tv's in the late 90's (those are not even 720p or hd capable)- it was very clear, text or images ... it's just a matter of configuring the PC to the correct resolution to achieve clear image
rule of thumb for the new flat panels (lcd or plasma) is to configure the graphics resolution of the pc to the maximum resolution supported by the flat panel - any other resolution would normally result into poor text and image clarity ...you can try this even with standard PC lcd monitors - if you change the resolution, higher or lower, the txt and image clarity becomes poor ....unlike with old crt, the image size only changes, but clarity would still be ok (that's why you can opt to have 640x480 res on old 15-inch crt's if you want bigger images and 800x600 if you want to fit more but smaller images/txt on your screen)
hence, the image/text quality should be a non-issue with the new plasma tv generations ... just work on the configurations
congrats brother! ako kasi as much as possible i try to stay away from temptations, kakakuha ko lang ng pv70 ko last march, at hindi pa tapos bayaran. ;D ayaw ko tingnan yung pv80 when i passed by TW last weekend.
if it is really better than pv70, baka dapat ang title ng thread is "panasonic pv80 Rocks...Harder". ;D
anyway, looking forward to the pix.

OK lang kahit professional review or user review.
Pero dahan dahan lang. Alam mo naman dito maraming balat sibuyas.... lahat (ie. dealer, tv, resibo, etc.) pinepersonal :-\

i'll look for buyers for your pv70. ;D
interested din po ako sir.. magkanu kaya sir??
Good day mga sirs! I was decided on buying an LCD before but after reading posts in this website and talking to Sir Jeff and Vic, i'm more inclined now to Plasma. However, I got another dilemma: 42PVb or 42PV80? Anybody could say if there's a lot of difference regardng picture quality bet the 2? Coz if the ONLY difference is the presence of 3 HDMI port and SD in the PV80, then I'll go for the PV8
TIA for the replies
However, I got another dilemma: 42PVb or 42PV80?
thanks for the replis Sir nemesis and sir barrister! but I think resale value is not that important in gadgets.

Hi All,
Just got my 42PV80 from Sights and Sounds yesterday (thanks sir Vic)! It's a very nice plasma compared to the others. Clear sya sa cable kahit sablay ung reception ko. This is a good pick for those who are considering the plasma units, far better talaga than LCDs. So bili na!
I also got my PV80 from Vic. Great TV! Looking forward to the calibration. Thanks again!
Got my PV80 from Sir Vic also. You know that the PV80's an exceptional TV since AV websites mostly and favorably compare it with Pioneer's top-of-the-line Kuro plasma models.
Also, you know you're getting unparalleled after-sales service and support whenever you buy from Sir Vic.
;D

Hey, nice to hear from you. Raphael and your mom also came to buy a TV from us. Nice to meet both of them. Unfortunately, the home-theater that your brother ordered is still not available. Hope, it arrives today. Anyway, thanks for your referral.
Guys question. i love the blacks of this plasma. But sometimes, it does get too dark. like when I play some PS3 games and I'm in a semi-lit room it's too dark. Is it ok if I manually change the settings even if my unit was just calibrated 3 weeks ago? What's the best setting so it won't be too black? thanks! :)
try setting the contrast to 88 and brightness at 48.
Di ba "fry mode" if you set the contrast too high?nope. 8)
How much is the 50PV80? Baka tempting na presyo at pwede nang makabili!
Got my 50PV80 from sir jeff at TW... chose between pio 508xg and this but saw konti lang diff nya sa PQ so bought panny na lang and saved money!!!
although i used the money to buy speakers naman hehehe ;D
very satisfied with my new TV!! hehe :P
Malinaw diba, thanks for the purchase nga pala. ;D
yup very satisfied! medyo nagka-IR lang when i played around 2 hours with my ps3 but hopefully mawawala naman agad hehe...
watch any dvd or tvs lang wala na agad yan in 15mns. ;)
hehe yep nawala na nga ;D thanks!
ooops hindi pa pala nawawala :(
still have IR :'(
I have read in other websites na matagal daw bago mawala to? ???
Bawasan mo contrast mo to 70 sir, then play other movies w/it.
my contrast is at 48 lang nga eh kahit nung naglalaro ako :(
watched a whole movie last night (2hrs+), after i checked my TV and meron pa rin ghosting.. :o
hmm i guess i can't do anything but to wait for it to clear up...
how many hours ba usually bago mawala ang ghosting? you told me (sir jeff) 15mins lang wala na dapat.. should i get worried na ba? panic mode na ba dapat ako? :-\
Nor really sir, meron white wash mode you can turn it on. ;)
Call Em at trinoma so we can teach you how to do it. 901-3975 And sobrang baba ng contrast mo sir, set it to 70. :D Di ma push yung color nyan to take out the IR its too weak.
My PV80 impressions...
Final words:
I've not spent enough time with the PV80 to give out a solid conclusion, but from where I stand, and from how it performed thus far, I could honestly say - YES! The PV80 rocks harder and I do look forward to the next level of plasma experience with a PY800 or 850 this coming season. But if ever that does not materialize,I won't really be disappointed. This unit is already a winner and a definite long term keeper! (T.V shopping ends here, for now)
Thanks to Vic of SIGHTS AND SOUNDS for another stellar delivery and product assistance.

Carlo777 thanks for the reviews/observation .. :)
good thing i dont have an xbox .. ;D ;D
worth it talaga ang unit na ito!! ;D
That's why I upgraded mine from PV8 to PV80, because of the itch for a better contrast ratio :) not to mention the classy piano finish, extra HDMI port and the SD card reader.. ;D...thanks to Sir Vic of SnS for letting me upgrade and giving a good deal and the free wall mount :-X
I notice its difference right away with the PV8 when set to ECO mode which activates the CATS(Contrast Automatic Tracking System) most specially when I turn the ambient lights out. I noticed that the blacks are deeper on this mode as compared with the PV8. Just my observation
Hey guys, care to share your calibrated settings for your PV80 plasma? I own 50PV80 and bought it uncalibrated since I'm based in the province. Thanks!
ei bro .. to be honest im not into calibration .. i just let my eyes decide .. btw ill try to get a wallmount bracket next week from jeff .. ill request a calibration narin .. ill post the settings here ..
I think calibration works wonder...at least according to the articles I read in the net. Thanks bro! :)i agree .. since i work at night, so my viewing hour are limited from 7am to 12nn .. ok parin!!
Share ko lang guys, I tried watching my tv with all my lights on and the picture quality remains satisfactory. Panasonic has improved their PV80 panels such that you can watch it in bright settings. Ayos!
Guys what's your setting for PS3 use?eco during the evening and standard during daytime .. (cinema mode though looks good while playing fight night 3 ;D )
For me I use unaltered standard.
mga pv80 owners ang ganda ng Saving Private Ryan ka nonood ko lng kagabi, via 1080p ng XBOX360 thru HDMI 1.80:1 kasi ung aspect ratio nya kaya no need to zoom fullscreen sya grabeng linis ng picture and the black level are superb wat an experience!wow i was watching the same movie last night .. :o
eco during the evening and standard during daytime .. (cinema mode though looks good while playing fight night 3 ;D )
Never tried eco mode for gaming, I'll try that=)
What settings do you use for Blu-Ray and DVD?
Tnx.
Never tried eco mode for gaming, I'll try that=)funny you asked .. ive been using eco mode for my htpc since i bought it .. ;D (aside from my manual adjustments 3-5 movies)
What settings do you use for Blu-Ray and DVD?
Tnx.
Naalala ko si pinoyako, yung nagbebenta ng Mediacom player. Grabe din ang kulit mag post nun! >:(barrister this username sounds/looks familiar .. :D
42PV80 on Eco mode and CATS on, the contrast varies from night time viewing (lights out) and day time viewing. The image tends to become sharper and brighter during daytime viewing compared to night time viewing.by default this is turned on, right?
by default this is turned on, right?yes sir, CATS is ON only during ECO Mode :)
yes sir, CATS is ON only during ECO Mode :)i see, kaya pala sabi ko during daytime and nightime viewing parang ok parin (there is a difference but hardly noticable) ... :D
Meron ba pang HDTV na dehins auto tracking ang contrast?
Have you guys noticed na mukhang mas sensitive ang auto-tracking when gaming? (I'm using Xbox360)
I don't seem to notice that, but my 360 is one of those 1st batches(needs the towel trick every 5 days).Connected via components only(720p).
yes sir, CATS is ON only during ECO Mode :)tried to play with it yesterday, natawa kami ni nerveblocker ;D
my 42pv80 was just delivered yesterday. thanks to s&s. cant wait for the unit to be calibrated.
My Xbox360 is a launch unit bought Dec 2005. 3-years old na sya in about 5 weeks. Buhay na buhay pa rin connected 24/7 via D terminal. Didnt I mention to you the problem with Phil power lines? That could be one of the reasons. Anyway, I notice that the screen dims (switches to low energy mode) after some minutes of gaming - maybe some kind of screen protection or eye protection during gaming. Sabagay I like eco mode especially when using the HDTV as PC monitor.
Sir carlo comparison naman between pv80 and py800. Some pictures might do as well. ;)
Magkano 37 inch na PX80 (PV80)?lx80 and LZ800 sa phil sir. :)
lx80 and LZ800 sa phil sir. :)
I wonder, what would Panasonic's line up be for 2009 ;)hmm carlo mukhang mapapabili ka nanaman :)
Oh, I think youd have a very good market if the 37V Panasonic Plasma (PX80/PV80) series becomes available outside Japan too.
Sir, your from Japan? Be going there next week. ;D I'll be checking out the 150 inch plasma. :D
Question guys:
Yung settings ba pagnaka standard and Eco mode binabago nyo pa? im using Eco mode kasi be it on TV, HTPC and DVD eh :D
Meron bang menu para malaman natin kung ilang hours na nagagamit yung tv natin?
Buhayin natin tong thread na to.
Post rin po kayo pics mga naka 42pv80 diyan. ;)

pansin ko lang bro .. did you get a new stand? :P
Nope bro, yun pa rin. Pinawall mount ko lang yung plasma :Dnice .. laking bagay ng wallmount ano .. :D
16:9 = htpc ps3
just = cable tv viewing
btw if you have issues with the scaling when using an htpc (lampas sa screen yung desktop) .. turn off the overscan option since its turned on by default :D
Hi all :)in windows, youll have to set the display properties .. im not so sure how you do it with a mac ;)
I turned off overscan.. hindi nga lumampas sa screen.. though hindi naman na cover ang boung display? may mga 1 inch na space around the display (Black). Ganon ba talaga? Now, when I'm watching my downloaded TV series, will just zoom 1 it. Btw, i'm using macbook connected via HDMI. TIA! :)
Just got my PV80 last week... Thanks to all your posts here. It really rocks! ;D
nice .. laking bagay ng wallmount ano .. :D
how about the glare bro .. i remembered your room to be bright, do you have reflections? is it tolerable?
Nope bro, sinara ko lang curtains ayos na ayos kahit pa nakabukas yung ilaw :Dkewl .. :D
After all the comments I figured I would post from thread I just started on my Demo yesterday. It is under the thread "Side by side by side demo"
OK....had a three hour Demo yesterday. Wanted to find out first hand and compare side by side the streingths and weaknesses of Plasma vs LCD and the various brands available using a budget of 60k with 37-42 inch panels. With me, and offering there opinions, were my 21 year old son who is experienced with gaming, my 12 year old and 8 year old son. Our use at home will be aproximately 35% PS3, 30% DVD BlueRay and 35% Sky cable viewing. After weeks of running around in the USA and seeing some great products at great prices my hunger for another HD monitor is at a peak. (I first purchased two years ago a 60 inch Sony SXRD 1080P rear pojection unit and have been pretty happy with it.) I decided to Demo and compare three aspects A) Gaming with PS3 - Motor Storm, B) Blueray Movie Viewing - Transformers, C) Official/Originol DVD Concert of Red Hot Chilli Peppers using the top of the line Pioneer upscale DVD player
PLEASE NOTE:All the viewing was first done on factory settings and adjusted by the very patient and experienced Sales Tech Sir Paul.
I could not evaluate sound quality of any of the units as there were other demos going on.
I can not offer any comments on standard cable viewing.
1) Sony 40 inch LCD (1080P S series entry level) Wanted the V series but only S was in stock
2) Samsung 37A550 (1080P entry level) ..wanted to test the 40 inch unit but none in stock
3) Panasonic LCD 37 inch (37A450) 720P only as the 1080P are not yet available in the Phillies
4) Panasonic 42PV80 Plasma (The highly discussed on this forum 720P 42 inch unit)
5) Toshiba Raiza 37AV500 720p
My Son Spent about 40 minutes using the PS3. All the sets preformed well but some better than others.
The Sony had awsome colors and tones. The TV did how ever have pixelization issues. Not my sons favorite
The panny LCD and the toshiba had very good colors although some what exagerated. Not true to life so to speak but still good. Had pixelization issues as well. Pretty good in general but not as good as the Sony
The Samsung preformed very well. The reaction time, according to my son, was very good ( perhaps the best). Color and tones were pretty good but short of the sony . (This may have been because the samy is so "Bright and in your face" .We probably could have tweaked it just a little more )...The over all colors were more accurate than the Panny LCD and the Toshiba. And yes we also had pixelization issues. Based on reaction time this was the best preformer of the LCD's so far.
The Panny plasma had good earthy colors and tones. A little darker than the LCD's but I expected that. Paul adjusted the brightness just a little and it looked great. Colors did come alive and the reaction time was also very good. NOT MUCH PIXELIZATION
My sons verdict: In respect to LCD's He liked the Sammy the best but PHERHAPS OVER ALL MAYBE the panny plasma the best??
The DVD concert was played and all the lcd's could not handle the moving and jumping very well. MAJOR PIXELIZATION THROUGH OUT THE CROWD AND PREFORMANCE ON STAGE. The experience left alot to be desired. I will add that the Sony had the most accurate color of them all. The Panny plasma handled it the best. The least pixelization and fairly good color and tone.
We all agreed the viewing of this DVD on the plasma was the best. The sony and Sammy were a distant second. Toshiba and Panny LCD were a tie respectively in third.
Here is where we come down to the nuts and bolts of the viewing for me as I am not a gamer and am really looking forward to the Blueray HD movie viewing.
When in the states I viewed (in a SONY shop) a stunning preformance of the Movie Transformers on a 46 inch XBR with 120hz. I watched the opening 15 minutes and it was really SPECTACULAR. I decided that this was the movie I would bring for the demo. I can only say that at first glance 5 minutes in to the movie the Sony was again brilliant in respect to color, tone, and sheer brillance. The Sammy looked very good as a close second. The panny plasma handled it very well. The Toshiba looked good and the Panny LCD could not take the 1080P feed so we shut it down. Based on the importance I placed on Blueray movie veiwing I was ready to declare the clear winner of this part of our demo to Sony. My eldest son agreed. Hands down the sony was Awsome. Almost as good as the viewing we had in the states. Now very importantly there were three other customrs in the store all carefully doing there own demos. All of them came over one by one and all commented on how the Sony looked best of them all. The Sammy also looked good but was very bright. The plasma was holding its own with very accuarte color rendering as well. But as the action in the movie picked up and we were watching battle and chase scenes and actual robots transforming that pixelization reared its ugly head on all the LCD's. I was not a happy camper as I found it to be quite a distraction. My 12 year old son pointed out that the Sammy was the LCD that best handled this and had the least pixelization. There seemed to be a smooth flow on the sammy which helped mute the constant pixelization problems on all the other LCD's. With that being said it seemed to lag a bit but that was limited when paul put the "movie feature" on low as opposed to high /medium. It was at this point that we turned our attention away from the toshiba and concentrated on the Plasma the Sammy and the sony. The plasma had the least pixelization issues. The Sammy with its smooth flow looked pretty good and the most disturbing at this point was the Sony. Paul tried to desperately adjust and tweak but that sony could not rid itself of that Pixel issue The Sammy handled it some what better.
I had then asked Paul to get another blueray and he got the fantastic four. It started off with again Sony proving to the best PQ, and color but as soon as the action started the sony and the pixel issue returned. The sammy also has these issues but not as much and the plasma looked very good.
For the next thirty minutes my boys played PS3. My eldest son then said playing on the plasma was easy on his eyes as opposed to the bright sammy and sony. He wants the Panny PV80. One of he guys demoing near us came over and said he liked the plasma the best. Another one came over and just said he ordered the Panny plasma for immediate delivery. They were happy with our demo. I am scratching my head. I really liked the PV80. I now need to demo the Panny Plasma 42PY700 full HD and the Panny Plasma 42PY800.
I also am asking myself:
Are the entry level 1080P LCD'S not high tech enough to display fast moving HD?
Is the LCD technology still a work in progress?
Are the more expensive LCD's better in avoiding pixelization entirely?
How much must one spend in the Phillies to get a LCD with out Pixelization?
And based on budget should I focus only on Plasma?
People.....I really welcome any comments you have. ??? PLEASE REPLY ON THIS THREAD OR LINK BELOW.

good day po mga sirs,PV80 is only 1080p ready .. however if youre planning to get a 42" display, you wont be able to see the difference between 720p and 1080p anyways (unless ofcourse youll seat below 4ft from your screen :D )
i am eyeing on buyin a PV80?full HD na ho ba to?I mean 1080 na ba sya or upscale lang?if I have a blu ray player..is the PQ difference for an upscaled against a native HD 1080 really big?
or anything you can share for me to consider this unit against others (lcd/plasma)..i can't seem to find an 42" lcd unit with the same tag price of this panny pv80..
many thanks!
My main concern is, the one that is truly holding me back, is my fear of burn in or image retention. How much should I be concerned about it? Or should I be concerned about it in the first place? Is it more of a temporary side effect nowadays rather than a weakness altogether? How does your pv80 handle this problem?BI nope, but IR yes but it disappears after a few seconds or minute .. :D
I have read quite a lot about burn in and needless to say, I have also read conflicting statements. (most that I have read are statements abroad) Did you guys follow the first 100-hours settings of use? I'm really more afraid of the "permanent burn in" part if it does exist. If it does exist then it's JUST ONE mistake of pausing Transformers and falling asleep and for the lifetime of the TV, you have Optimus Prime in front of you every time you watch TV. Kidding aside, I'd rather buy an LCD and worry no more. Can permanent burn in or image retention happen?
hello everyone, I'm new here and actually registered to get insights on what TV to buy.
I'm really looking at the 40pv80 as my choice of TV and am ready to buy one within the week. I am not a gamer and would only use the TV for cable broadcast and DVD (no blu ray yet for me.. hehe..). That is why I want the pv80 over an LCD TV. I was actually looking at the Samsung 32A550 as well as the Sony Bravia 32W400. All of which are in the price range of the 40pv80. But as I have read from comments, PQ goes to the pv80 especially with what I have specified I will use the TV for (cable broadcast and DVD)

Buti na lang ako hindi ko masyado napapansin yang mga Image Retention at Green Phosporus Lag na tinatawag nila. Kung ako sa inyo kung hindi nyo nakikita o napapansin, wag nyo na lang hanapin. ;Dexactly, in my case it was the glare that was annoying .. good thing i stopped noticing it, and started enjoying my display .. :D
mga sir pa pm nman po best settings PV80, and pede ba to iapply kahit bago palng ang unit ??? im not that happy kasi sa color display compared to my toshiba LCD. thnkspm Carlo777 .. ;)

thanks sir.. nasanay lng talaga siguro ako kc mas bright talaga LCD but after watching few titles, mas realistic nga color ng ng pv80 than my LCD lalo na sa skin tone.... thanks agen:)
great info ninjababez!
You would see the difference if you know what you are looking for. In my case, kahit lumayo ako I can detect the vertical lines (or the horizontal resolution) of the PX80 because I know its there. It makes the entire image look sharper than that of full HD panel kapag lumayo ka. It makes the image sort of behind a fine prison bar if you stay close...BUT ITS NOT BAD AT ALL..Its just there. What looks like fine prison bar sa PX80 looks like gamo gamo on a full HD panel. Hence, it would appear that full HD image is softer until you realize that it's the edge enhancement effect of the fine prison bar that makes teh non-HD look sharp. Whether or not that difference is significant depends on you. Again, ITS NOT BAD AT ALL.i would have to agree with you bro, but if you want your non full hd to display clear text, you can always set it at 1080p/1080i BUT at a higher DPI settings :D
Pero if you use the plasma for regular computing, then full HD advantage is very significant. Period.
may i know the burn in procedure for the pv80? thanks!100 hours with no static image, logo etc.
100 hours with no static image, logo etc.
but to be safe you might want to try using this (http://www.dataproductservices.com/dpt) method for 4 day straight .. just run it and leave it for 100 hours :)
thanks! do i need to maintain a particular combination of settings for the first 100 hours (contrast, brightness...)?set it on ECO ;)
By the way sir, is that for dvd or bluray or gaming?
dvd viewing sir.. and my pv80 is almost a week pa lng..ok na ok yung setting na binigay mo.. is it ok to maintain that?? eco mode kc parang d ko maenjoy ung pinapanood ko.. is it safe not to observe burn in procedure?? besides la pa nman ata case of permanent IR sa pv80? am i right??i didnt follow the proper breakin procedure ... :D

Have had my 42PV80 for two weeks now. Have gone through the break in procedure put forward by the many experts here and am already at 170 hours. Am not doing the 100 hour break in but the 200 hour! Am happy with this unit on all fronts. Standard cable is good. Standard DVD playing on normal and not upscaled DVD player is very good. PS3 gaming is fantastic and Blueray Discs are great. I love it. My wife loves it. My kids love it. I honestly have not one complaint thus far.
Again Thanks to Victor and Paul of Sights and Sounds for there help and recommendations along the way and a HUGE THANK YOU to Carlos777 for his invaluable input and commentarry throughout my 2 weeks of audition
Glad to be of help! You owe me lunch...Do swing by Corinthians when you're in the area^for audio use the toslink connection :)
@Anyone
This is a pretty lame question but how do I connect a Panny HTIB to work with my ps3? I don't have any HTIB system of any sort and I may buy one just to test it on my PV80^
The HTIB I'm looking at is a PT465. (I think this is a good entry level HTIB system for someone like me who never had one)
Hi guys I need help. I just got my HTIB yesterday but I'm having trouble connecting it to my pc using the optical cable. Is there any setting I need to change in XP or in the HTIB for this to work properly? I enabled passthrough but no sound will come out. TIA

got my 42pv80 yesterday...
im going through the usual burn in procedure as suggested in his forum... eco mode with no static images...
im using concert dvds to play as they have no blackbars but im getting impatient and i want to start watching my dvds ( they do have blackbars though) is it ok to do this? or is it better to wait for 200 hours begfore i start watching dvd's with blackbars? thanks in advance
one last question... when i was in another store, i overheard a customer scheduling a calibration session after he bought his LCD... do i also need to have my plasma tv calibrated by a qualified technician after the 200 hour burn in procedure? thanks again
for audio use the toslink connection :)
get an optical cable then youre good to go ;)
Thanks!
Anyone know of a good set of Logitec speakers for panny plasma's?

change the region bro ;)
try US cable :)
yup, it works that way.
got it to work using US CATV... kaso lang mejo iba yung sequence ng channel numbers... so if i want to watch ABS CBN ( channel 8 in skycable) i need to key in channel 5 on the remote ata... is this the same with you guys?

When you auto-channel use Direct instead of Position to get the channels right.
Hope this helps.

Guys try nyo to for Blu-Ray tapos close the lights! Ganda! I use it for my PV80 and PY800
Cinema
Contrast 48
Brightness 49
Color 53
Sharpness 47
Temp Warm
Color management Off
P-Nr OFF
will these settings work best too for the pv8 model? :)
will these settings work best too for the pv8 model? :)
Yes sure!
The revisions of ninjababez are very good
You can also try:
Cinema
Contrast 68
Brightness 39
Color 62
Tint -1
Temp Warm
Sharpness at 47 to 49
Color management = on
bro,
are these settings based on your own calibration or taken from the net? i have tried this setting but i find it a bit dark with brightness set at 39...details were lost specially on dark scenes.
i've watched a full movie using the first settings...colors and skin tones were very natural...the whites really bothered me as they were not pure white. overall, its a good tv setting. maybe a little more of movie viewing with these settings so i can observe further.
these settings are only good on a dark room / night viewing right? i've tried it on daytime..picture was not good. im switching it to standard settings at during the day, then i switch it back to cinema when at night..
ill try ninjababez' setting as well..
more inputs will be appreciated :)
thanks guys!
hmm .. it could be that your room is well lighted ..
jack up the contrast and brightness since "cinema" mode is a little dim :)
sir,
i watched the film on a pitch black room. night time, when i turned down the brightness at 39...
im good with the contrast set at 58 and brightness at 49. however, can we do something about the whites not being pure white at warm settings? or that's really how its supposed to be?
thanks :)
Can somebody PM me best settings for Cable, DVD and PS3 :) Thanks a lot guys!on a crappy cable service i suggest you use dynamic ;D
got mine yesterday from theaterworks with the help of ninjababez (ty amigo ;) )
break-in mode muna ;D

hmm... will soon be getting my 50px80 = 50pv80 i understand it's a 720 and perhaps 1080ready? can someone here please direct me to a thread about 1080 ready thread.. am at a loss there.. if i have an upscaling receiver 1080 na siya? am sorry for being redundant about these things...
Does the 42pv80 support Full-range RGB ?
Thanks.
Hi Kakashi.
Have you tried turning the Full-range RGB option in your PS3 while its connected to your 42pv80 ? Its supposed to provide better contrast and color.
Thanks.
After weeks of thinking and series of consultations and auditions, I finally gave in and plunged into the plasma bandwagon.. ;D
Needless to say, I got my 50PV80 yesterday afternoon from SnS. Got a good deal and great service from Sir Vic and his crew.. ;D
Break-in mode muna starting tomorrow.. :)
By the way, I have one question sana... Is it okay to calibrate a brand new unit fresh out of the box? My unit kasi was calibrated na din right away after set up because Vic said baka mahirapan na makabalik technician niya since my location is bulacan and a bit far from manila. Would appreciate your comments on this.. TIA ;D
Let me say thank you nga pala ng marami kay Sir Carlo and Sir Eksi who were both very helpful and generous in giving their inputs and suggestions during the time I was still contemplating on what unit to get (PV80 or the Samsung series 6) and making series of auditions. :)
Ty ty sa inyo mga bro.. ;D

my advice to new plasma owners to just run a whitewash for 24 hours. :)
Let's say you just leave it on zoom 3 on any channel for 24 hours ok na kaya yun? (Setting at cinema only)white wash is a little different from your regular image/video bro.
Cool, the PV80 is a solid unit and it does "rock harder" than any plasma I've seen this year (price to performance taken into consideration). Anyway, saan ka sa bulacan sir?I'm from Angat Bulacan sir.
congrats pare :)Oo pre, can't wait to do that kaso muka kelangan ko muna mag-break in just to be on the safe side.. kaso si misis atat na atat na.. muka hindi ko na kaya mapigilan baka mag-wala na.. hehehe... :D :D :D
its nice to be of help, kahit 'di tayo expert :D
sharing personal experience, in a way, learning din :)
sigurado mag-marathon ka ng LOTR and PIXAR dvd collections mo :D
enjoy your tv pare :)
NMT na siguro next acquisition mo? :D :D :D :D :D
Congrats with your new 50pv80. About calibration, most sites i read recommend burning in the unit before calibrating. But in your case, it's more practical to calibrate the unit kasi hassle naman kung ibabalik mo pa yng unit. Remember that plasmas nowadays are not that susceptible to burn in unlike before because of the advancement of technology. I know some people don't observe the burn in period with their unit and simply enjoy them. No reported serious probs naman. Don't worry too much, just enjoy your tv. :) But if you must, and for peace of mind, you may want to write down your picture settings and probably turn down the brightness, sharpness, color to around 50 in the meantime, and avoid watching cable tv with stationary channel logo for prolong period of time. Thanks for the suggestion, sir :)
Have fun. :)

Let's say you just leave it on zoom 3 on any channel for 24 hours ok na kaya yun? (Setting at cinema only)
Guys,
I guess I'll just follow this one from sir Carlo as I think it is the most convenient and a good compromise for those who can't wait to enjoy their new toys like me... :) I also confirmed this with Eksi and he concurred that he also followed the same procedure.
What's good about this is that you get to break-in the TV while enjoying it at the same time.. Although not to the full potential yet because of minor tweaks in the picture and aspect areas (such as Zoom3 and setting contrast, sharpness, colour and brightness to 25 or 30 in all 4 picture modes: dynamic ,standard, cinema and eco).
What do you think about this mga Sirs.. appreciate your comments... :)
I badly need your help and expert opinion pls!
If you have money to burn, what unit would you buy and go for, 42PV80 or 50PV80 ;D?
I was about to get the 42PV80 kaya lang my bratty lil princess daughter of mine sabi nung tinuro ko yung 42PV80 and told her ito yung bibilhin natin, "ang liit, daddy"! "Why not get this one instead," pointing to the 50PV80! Aaaargh!
Anyway, so what would you get?
Hello mga boss, i recently bought a 42pv80 from SnS. I can say that this plasma unit really rocks! Sobrang impress ang wife that she
is planning to buy another unit that is bigger than than the one i bought. I would like to ask you guys if we were to buy a 50 inch plasma, is it practical to buy the py800 model? Malayo ba ang difference in terms of picture quality if we were to put it side by side with
a pv80 model? Ano pa ba ang ibang important features ang py800 na wala ang pv80? Btw, thank you very much Mr. Vic Chua of SnS
sa walang sawang pagsagot mo sa queries ko kahit via phone or via txt. Sensya na po kung medyo makulit at sobra mag haggle. :)
Sirs, kasya ba sa kotse yung 42PV80? Nagbabalak ako bumili and i would be picking it up. Kung delivery naman po how much po charge ng mga suking seller natin dito? Thanks!
Hello SnS. You said in your pm to me that every plasma purchase comes with a free hdmi cable. Ngayon lang po ba sa sale to or even
before meron na. Thanks

sir I compared the cable tv PQ of my 42PV80 with my uncle's 40S400, and napansin ko mas ok ang plasma. hindi dahil bias ako pero mas malinaw at mas natural yung kulay ng plasma kesa sa lcd

mga sir may upconverting ako na DVD player na panasonic na up to 1080p. question, i have a 50pv80 can i feed a 1080p signal to it kahit HD ready lang sya?
Yes.
if kaya ng PV80 then why it is still HD ready and not Full HD?
Meron po during the sale period. I'll have to clarify kung this was extended to customers who purchased on none sale dates.
Hi SnS, i'm still looking forward for your clarification with regards with the hdmi cable. I bought my unit last
March 15, 2009. Thanks
Sir this was explained in one of the older threads. I'll try to look for it then post it here.
Ill assume that the PV80 is just up to 1080i right, if ever kaya mag accept ng signal na 1080p it might not mean na 1080p nga yung nilalabas na resolution, malamang dinodowngrade nya yung signal from 1080p to 1080i/720p without you knowing. So if you use a 1080p signal try pressing the recall button on your tv's remote. It will show you the resolution its using

hi guys
recently bought this kind of unit 42pv80... and it was astonishing!!
problema ko lang, the room that i placed, the tv is just around 6 to 7 feet from where im siting (viewing position)
syempre excited, watched dvd, played ps3 for several hours
sbrang sumakit mata ko, deep under my eyes..
could it be na:
-masyado lang ako nagbabad
- di pa lang sanay mata ko sa plasma
- or talagang malaki masyado and 42 in if used in a distance of only 6 or seven feet
really appreciate ur inputs
thanks

He he he. May IMAGE RETENTION ba sa mata mo even if you close your eyes? Nakikita mo yung rectangular shape ng TV pero black pag pikit mo? Meron diba?
Yes, masyado kang nagbabad. Matinding culprit ang PS3 kase halos di ka kumukurap non.
Yes, di pa lang sanay mata mo sa laki ng image
No, oks lang ang 42 inch from 6 to 7 feet. Pareho lang tayo ng distance but I use 50 inch. Masasanay ka rin soon.
Pero I wouldnt even think of wall mounting from that distance, unless "low wall-mounted". Sasakit nga batok mo like Mr. Reynold. ;D Kung mataas and wall mount, either you use a high chair or you stand up while watching. ;D ;D

Hello, sir this is about the free hdmi cable. Free po for all T.V purchases. Call shop to avail of it.Hello SnS, thanks for clarifying this hdmi issue. Sana lang it was included in the delivery of my unit. Kasi i asked the persons
Thanks.
Is the SD slot of PV80 only for jpeg/photo reader? Any other use for it?
mga sir may upconverting ako na DVD player na panasonic na up to 1080p. question, i have a 50pv80 can i feed a 1080p signal to it kahit HD ready lang sya?
Sinasabi natin na ang 50PV80 ay HD-ready lang kasi ang native resolution ng panel nya ay 720p lang. Para masabi natin na ang isang panel ay full HD, dapat ang native resolution ng panel nya ay 1080p.
Now, your question is bakit "yes" pa rin sa 50PV80 ang 1080p signal? Kasi, HD-ready na nga sya which means that tatanggapin pa rin nya ang 1050p signal pero ido-down scale muna nya ito to 720p to meet the display's native resolution which is 720p only. May konting degradation sa signal quality during the downscaling process, though its hardly noticeable to untrained eyes. That is why, if budget permits, it is still better to buy full hd panels to get full potential of bluray contents which is 1080p source to 1080p display.
But you have to try first which one has a better scaler; your dvd player or your PV80?
1. To test your dvd player's scaler, set it's output to 720p. At this setting, your dvd player will deinterlace the native 480i dvd signal to 480p and upscale it to 720p. The PV80 will simply accept and display the signal without doing any rescaling since the signal already matches the panel's native resolution.
2. To test your PV80's scaler, set your dvd player's output to 420p. At this setting, your dvd player will deinterlace the native 480i dvd signal to 480p without doing any upscaling of the signal. Your PV80 will accept and upscale the signal to 720p to match its panel's native resolution.
Use the same video material for testing and compare which of the two settings will give a better picture quality. In my case I'm using Pioneer DV600 dvd player and 42PV70, and I found out that my 42PV70 has better scaler than my DV600 dvd player.
It is not recommended to set your dvd player to 1080p because you will have multiple signal rescaling that will result to more degraded signal quality. At this setting, your dvd player will deinterlace and upscale the dvd signal to 1080p, then your PV80 will dowscale it again to 720p to match the display's native resolution.
:)
well said sir thanks for this infotake note that sometimes using a dvd upscaler is better. its just that most of the time panasonics upscaling seems to be better .. 8)
Finally got my 50PV80 last night. Bought it from listening in style - ok din dun bumili.
I am just using regular rca cable (since I have yet to get an upscale dvd and/or blu ray player), but all i can say is that the PQ is awsome!
better start saving na bro for an upscaling dvd player + BD player. mas lalong sasarap ung viewing experience pag naka HDMI ka na. ;D
pa pm credit card price for 42pv80 12months thanks.

Just got myself a 42pv8h and a pc with just a VGA attach to the plasma and still the PQ is very much perfect still for MKV's.
I'm sorry but what's spdif?
Currently hooked my eeepc701 to 50PV80! This is the best set up kse from ultra small midget to giant! ;D.
hi thebat,
how did you hook-up your eeepc to your 50pv80? is it thru vga connection and how long is the cable?
btw, i have a msi wind notebook and a 42pv8h. thanks in advance.
:)
Bakti walang sleep at set up timer off yung 42 pv8?
this was one of the cons on the reviews i found
ika nga nung isang reviewer "maybe it was designed for owner's to have sleepless nights" OA hehehehe ;D
Bakti walang sleep at set up timer off yung 42 pv8?
pv8 has a sleep function in the setup menu
Wala ako makitang sleep function..
nako sir, hindi dapat nawawala un, it doesnt necessarily say sleep timer, timer lang ata naka lagay dun, it should be there, hehehe, just press menu, then setup, browse through the options and your bound to see it ;D
Nakita ko na yung timer off!!! sa wakas!!!!so paano mo nga nakita? ???
so paano mo nga nakita? ???
nandun nga yung timer off..di ko napansin!! hehehe
After a month of owning a 50PV80 (mainly used for movies, secondary with PC monitor and PS3) all I can say now is that... I am so in love with my PV (pare ;D). Di ako nagsisisi sa size. Nung una parang nalula ako sa laki at inisip ko sana yung 42 size kinuha ko... yun pala mas ok na sa akin yung 50 kse parang nasa loob na ako nung TV hehe.
I totally love this PV. In fact, now I am contemplating on getting a 42PV8 for my son's room (para di na nya ako agawan) and another 32 or 37 panny LX for my room.
I thought Sony and Samsung plus LG were the best flat screens. I was totally wrong! Nagustuhan ko na talaga ang Panasonic lalo na tong PV because of the best PQ! Siguro if added features ang hanap nyo (like PiP etc) go for the other brands; pero kung the best PQ I say stick with this proven PV8/80!
I'll be playing all sort of games, from third person to FPS etc. Was wondering how bad the ghosting is.
I appears only with fast-moving, high-contrast scenes. Some people are sensitive to the green trails; some people can't see it no matter what they do.

Try to test the tv in another room in the house, like in the bedroom para ma isolate yung prob if its signal interference or the power outlet in its current location that could be causing the issue..
Sige sir try ko po suggestion nyo...thanks
Also try removing the coax cable connected to the tv, its a possible culprit. Then watch a direct source like a dvd player and check if the waves are still present. Hope this helps well as well..sir wala pong coax cable na nakalagay, but i'll try to watch a dvd player and check. thanks sir sa advise! ..post ko po result
Hi sirs,whats your vga card?
Matanong lang,
Possible ba na machange yung refresh rate ng plasma na ito while in PC mode (via vga cable)?
Sa akin kasi 60hz lang e kaya medyo masakit sa mata. I'm using ATI video card
Hi Folks,
I'm a new 42PV80 owner (barely 2 weeks) and parati na ako nagmamadali umuwi para makapanood ng movie every night. ;D
Anyone here who can share their settings para miximized yung features? Kung pwede sana yung before and after 100 hours calibration settings. Main use will be for cable and movie viewing.
TIA.
just got my pv08 yesterday at SnS. need advice on how to break in this tv.
BTW im still using my old dvd player that can upscale 720P/1080i only. should i buy new one that can upscale 1080P para mas maximise ko ang viewing experince for my pv80? i have no plans yet for BD player.
t.y po.

We have the last 2 units 42PV80 at P40K each. :D
may channel recall ba yung PV80 or channel jump function? meron sa remote "recall" pero mukhang "display" - (displaying present channel info) yung silbi niya. thanks!
Wala siyang channel recall
which has better picture quality, the C10 or the pv80?
Just got a PV80 fr SnS this afternoon!
My wife & I compared the C10 & PV80 side-by-side.
We both liked the appeal of the PV80!
:D
Me stock pa ba? :)
Does the PV80's AR work or sobrang minimal lang ang tulong ng AR niya? Ito talaga pinoproblema ko eh. The C10 is out of the question. So its either this PV80, if the AR works well enough... or LCD na talaga.
Now that I have a C10, I can appreciate the AR of the PV80. It's safe to say that the AR of the 80 "works well enough".
Does it work good enough for it to be positioned opposite a window?
Fairly well, I guess, but it still wont match an LCD in this area.
Do you think I should take the plunge and get it for the above usage? I think I might be able to get my hands on this.
That's hard to say, I need to know just how much light gets thru. However, the PV80 along with the PV8/70 have the least reflection on all my plasma's. They're even less reflective than my PY800.
Thanks but for my purpose I think Plasma is better. 40/40/20 SD TV Broadcast/DVD and SD Divx/HD mkv files.
Yes, plasma will be best for you. If reflectiveness is an issue, then the plasma model with the least reflection would be the 42PV80 and the 42PV70.
If you can still find one then please grab it immediately.
SnS still has it, I was there last saturday
whats your vga card?
PV80 / C10 compared
Affordability (C10)(but why???hmm) I believe newer model means new technology and bit pricy

Does the PV80 have PIP?
good evening sa pdvd, im currently working in riyadh, im planning to buy flatpanel im choosing between pana 50pv80 (hd ready) or sony 40s550 (full hd), the price pana is 4,600.00 riyal while sony is 4,170.00 riyal. (convertion 1riyal = 12.00pesos), is it advisable to buy pana pv80 even if the new trend or tech is full hd, pang movie lang naman, and my current dvd player is the old pio 626. do i need to buy a new dvd upscaler? tnx
tnx dips, na check ko yung pq ng pv80 ok naman, ang room size about 16 sq/m, at so far positivve ang review ng pv80, sayang pati mura ang pv80 ngayon kasi sale sila

Got one of the last 2 units of PV80 in S&S last Thursday. Actually had the eye for the X10, but fell for PV80 kasi malakas pa din reflectiveness ng X10.magkano yung g11 (50" and 42")
Thanks Sir Vic for addressing the remote control problem at once!
Had to chance to take a glimpse on the G11. Ang ganda ng PQ! Out of reach nga lang talaga price :(
Nevertheless, we're enjoying our PV80!!! ;D
Hi Ayson. How much difference ng PV80 and the X10?
Got the PV80 for 39K. The X10 is priced at 46K.
Thanks for the info Ayson. Enjoy your new plasma!

Not too far apart, but since you have a PV80 already. Why not give a FULL HD plasma a spin? Anyway, the only glaring advantage my S10 has over the C10 (lesser clone of the X10) is in the area of gaming and perhaps PC use since it's FULL HD. (Screen reflectivity is not an issue for me, so it's not a factor)no plans of getting a new tv bro ;D
no plans of getting a new tv bro ;D
im just wondering if the price difference of 7k (between pv80 and x10) is worth it. :)
Hi guys,hmm both devices ON?
Pls help. Last week, i noticed na pag 2 hdmi cable ang
nakaconnect sa tv ko (pv80) nawawala pareho ang signal.
Kung isa lang, ok naman. Just got my unit last May.
Tia.
hi guys... long time nawala ako... sayang di ako umabot sa pv80 prices... tsk tsk...going strong bro :)
ninjababes... musta na setup mo... i'm still very much happy with my one and only LG plasma 32incher :)
going strong bro :)
almost got myself one of those 50" 10 series plasma. but ended up getting a speaker set (an upgrade from my z5500).
btw sobrang mura ng 42" ngayon sa market. :)
i think now is the right time for your upgrade :D
i definitely agree... the best time to upgrade to a 42 incher...panasonic parin bro :)
lets see... sana maging ok yung pasok ng funds ko this last qrter... para makapag pana plasma unit para sa house this last qrtr... ano ba recommended mo nga yon? PV80 pa rin ba or there are newer models in the market ... di na ko too updated... super enjoying my original lg plasma from jeff...
but i may need something bigger soon.. pm mo naman ako kung ano mga ok brands for about 50k... thanks

Hi. Just an update. Ok na ulit connection ng tv ko.
The culprit is the hdmi cable na nabili ko sa cd-r king.
Nun pinalitan ko, ok na.

good to hear everything is ok :)
The PV80 is still a very good performer, so an upgrade to a near similar T.V is not really called for. Off hand, a qualified "no" - it's not worth the difference! Unless of course money is not an issue or if it's going be a first time plasma purchase.Pro sir matanong ko lng kung meron ka ng 42pv80 or pv8 tpos upgrade ka sa 50c10 worth it ba?

Worth it bec of the size, not necessarily bec of the picture quality, which is in my honest opinion - Not miles apart.di po ba apektado rin ang viewing distance nun kung galing ka sa 42 to 50 tpos ganun pa rin ang viewing distance mo katulad nun 42 pa lng ang t.v mo? tpos 50 ang palit mo so sa palagay nyo mas maappreciate yun pq kung same distance lng ang paglalagyan nyo ng t.v.?

i think its the size that will wow you as sir carlo pointed out. even from the same viewing distance, i doubt pq will improve, of course details might improve because of the larger screen size but not night and day difference. another thing that might give an improved picture, but does not have to do with bigger screen size is that the newer panels have theoretically better contrast ratio, so in effect better blacks too.
i think for you to get night and day difference in pq (as in details and resolution) is from your 42" pv8 or pv80, which is a 720p panel is to get a 50" full hd panel (instead of a 50c10 = 720p) and view it at same distance as you view it on your 42" now.
of course price will go up a notch. :)
Based on reviews, my receiver can supposedly upscale even analog signals. However, when I connect it, the PV80 only shows a 480p signal. Was just wondering if anyone here has been able to use component cables to get a 720p signal on their PV80.
What's your receiver and its video output? There might be settings you need to change to tell the receiver the to output 720p (or higher) via its video output.
If not, the PV80 (or any plasma or LCD, if I'm not mistaken) converts the signal to its native resolution of 720p--in other words, upscales (or downscales, for 1080p sources) the signal already to 720p. It's just that its upscaling quality may not be as good as dedicated video processors or upscalers built into DVD/bluray players and receivers.
I'm using a Denon 1709 and an old Philips DVD player with only component out. I'm thinking of just getting an NMT so I don't want to buy an upscaling DVD player in the meantime. The 1709 doesn't convert analog to digital so the output of my receiver is also component and not HDMI. The interface of the Denon is just so difficult to use.
User reviews are saying that it upconverts even analog signals. I've already e-mailed Denon regardng this and am just waiting for the reply but am also just wondering that maybe the PV80 does not support 720/1080 if the input is only component and not HDMI.
Did you try switching the video convert setting ON and OFF on the Denon receiver?
Di pala talaga kaya ng 1709. Labo ng mga user reviews. Hehe.
6 year na yung 50PV80 ko ang still using ang loving it! Never had any problem at all. Picture quality is still perfect! Although mahal sya nung 2008, it was worth it!
Mine is still in the bedroom. With the black restoration trick that i still do from time to time, i am still loving it. Imo, it still has one of the best anti reflective screens.
Ive forgotten about the py800. Good times.
@supermanster panasonic. Mironto. Sk to get your step by step guide. I would think na mabilis na ngayon cuz we have shopee and lazada for parts. I remember i had to line up with the college students in la salle just to get me an arduino clone. Lol. Shoutout to octaver11 who i got the idea from reading one of his posts here.
umaandar pa rin Panasonic P42v20S.
Ilang years na yan chief?
