Congrats ms. supsup! ;)
+1. Her answer kicked a.
-
Just looking at that line up of top 5 beauties, in all honesty I couldnt see her beat the Angolan and the Ukrainain sa total na dating sa mata. Of course I was rooting for her hanggang huli and she really answered most smart. Yun nga lang, I really dont think yung answer sa final questions make so much of a difference.
Sabi ng wife ko baka na-artehan ang jujis sa exaggerated lakad ng ating kababayan - compared to the very regal and queen-like Ms. Angola. hehe
But Ms Supsup did us all proud for sure!
-
Malungkot daw ang mga bakla today! Walang ganang gumupit, kumulot at sumupsup! :D :D :D
Hehehe @ walang sumupsup...

Congrats again, Ms Philippines! You make us proud!!!

My entire facebook newsfeed is bathed in Miss Universe. ;D

ito ang pamatay! saan ka pa?
OPRA THINKS MS. PHILIPPINES DESERVES TO WIN MS. UNIVERSE TITLE! (http://tvnetworkwar.blogspot.com/2011/09/opra-thinks-ms-philippines-deserves-to.html)
"I have reservations with the results. If the only basis is the Q and A portion, after having been trimmed down to 5, Ms. Philippines deserved to win. What made her different from the rest is that she had no seconds to rethink of her answer as she had no interpreter to break the ice. The rest had their interpreters and having breaks on seconds to think about their answers. Hands down, Ms. Philippines answered straight to the point."
-Oprah Winfrey via NBC News
-
All those Top 5 beauties deserve to win to be fair.
Just an opinion but the physical position of our bet between those 2 towering beauties (the Chinese and the ultra gorgeous Ukrainian), could have affected the final verdict of each judge as to who was the fairest at that very moment.
As for the final Q&A, perhaps as long as a contestant does not make a complete fool of herself (as what happened to Venus last year), it probably won't make a difference.

I saw this a while ago, too. I didn't see any links to the actual interview or transcript. Could be a hoax.
Oprah's show used to be on CBS, btw.

^ True. Ang tangkad pala ni ms. China.

Ultimately its a contest that winners win based on the judges. Its a tough call, but in the end Ms. Angola won and Shamcey ranked 4th amongst beautiful ladies from the world over, not an easy thing to do.
Facebook and other social networking sites now abuzz with Pinoy's posting... we should have won, we were cheated, oprah said this.. blah blah blah.
Nakakainis lang, show respect to 2011 Ms Universe by stopping all these "it should have been us" shout outs. Puro Pinoy No1 Pinoy No1, sure confidence and nationalism is nice, but so is humility. We are not the only country in the world you know.
sa itinanong sa ating miss universe... walang tama o maling sagot... depende sa pagkadeliver at paliwanag... may interpreter o wala... it doesnt matter... speaking in english doesnt mean you are more intilligent than other candidate (na merong interpreter)...
I wonder how she walks sa kalye? :)
-
Shamcey Supsup refused to marry the son of Prime Minister Bhenazir Bhutto. It's not because of religious beliefs. She just doesn't want to be called Shamcey Supsup-Bhutto. ;D

HA ha ha haha !!! LOL...
-
Miss Angola seems to have Latino features for an African. Well with her credentials, Shamcey doesn't really need to do the pageant/actress route. She does walk with emphasis. Maybe that was part of her training. ;)
-
here we go again on sexist statements
-
Just saw her interview with Dyan Castillejo on Anthony Taberna's show. Her English reminds me of Pacquiao.
-
replay now showing in Channel 23

miss columbia seems to have been penalized for her daring exploits. she's the only one where the cameramen focused on somebody else during their introductions.

-
Saw her in the news, walking on evening gown. tama nga comments ng iba n masyadong emphasized ang lakad at galaw. :D :D :D

I think that shamcey's answer reflects the fact that Filipinos are no longer in touch with most of the world. Religion and religious differences are becoming less important now. Religious differences are becoming a source of atrocities so why drag it into marriage?

Congratulations to the interpreter of Miss Angola for winning the crown! ;D

Brother Waxx,

atsaka sir, di sya ma kendeng maglakad e... very poised and regal.. i guess mali na naman ang training ng bb pilipinas inc. sa tingin ko it should be more natural and regalistic and poised.
in other news:
great grandson of chocolate empire Coenraad van Houten, reportedly also proposed to Shamcey Supsup, but was immediately dumped when he introduced himself...
;D ;D sorry... i know its bad.. but it was there for the picking... ;D

I don't quite agree with that. Speaking as a nonpracticing Catholic, I actually thought her answer reflected the strength of her convictions. Whatever your faith is doesn't matter. The point is you believe in something and are strong enough to fight for it.
More so with Shamcey being a Filipina. Allow me to be presumptuous for just a moment and I hope I don't offend our female members here but, Filipinas in general are viewed as submissive, compliant and willing to bend to the will of their husbands. That's not always the case, though, and Ms. Supsup just underscored the fact that Filipinas, or women for that matter, are much, much stronger than what society leads us to believe.
Sorry! Naging Big Talk bigla ;D ;D ;D Heto na lang pambawi ko:

I think Miss Supsup did us proud. She deserved 1st runner-up, looks-wise. Not sure how much weight her answer had on the final ranking but it's more than likely that most of the judges have secular backgrounds and therefore did not/could not appreciate her answer.
Miss Angola truly is beautiful and exhuded pure class in her bearing. She deserved the title in my opinion.

"I'm going to file a protest if possible," says Sen. Miriam Santiago on Shamcey Supsup's 4th place finish
http://www.spot.ph/the-feed/49307/sen-miriam-santiago-on-shamcey-supsups-4th-place-finish-im-going-to-file-a-protest-if-possible-
"Senator Miriam Defensor-Santiago said she is prepared to contest the fourth place (or third runner-up) finish of Miss Philippines Shamcey Supsup in the recently-concluded Miss Universe 2011 pageant in Sao Paulo, Brazil," reports GMA News Online.
The feisty senator told reporters: "I'm going to file a protest if possible. If there's a legal remedy I don't think that it might be taken as lacking in sportsmanship."
Santiago clarified that she was "not sour-graping" and speculated that the Miss Universe decision "may have been partly political." She explained that they probably wanted to pick "somebody from Portugal or thereabouts in that region" to win because Asians have supposedly been winining beauty contests for a while.
"Sometimes you can't discount these possibilities. They all deserve to win, except that I'm very disappointed because I thought that our contestant was an ideal candidate that represented the best of the Filipina," Santiago said.
The other candidates in Miss Universe 2011 Leila Lopes' entourage are: Miss Ukraine Olesya Stefanko (first runner-up), Miss Brazil Priscila Machado (second runner-up), and Miss China Luo Zilin (fourth runner up).

back to topak.. este topic:
nung nag english si shancey, sabi ko, parang makakaroon na ng distinction ang english with tagalog accent. parang nagiging mainstream na... you know....
pero sa aking opinyon lang.. sana gumamit nalang sya ng interpreter... may + kasi... una, mas maexpress nyang mabuti ang sagot nya in native language... second, may time to think of panpa ganda points na succeeding answers habang nag iinterpret yung interpreter.. and 3rd, kung si vice ganda ang interpreter... tapos ang laban!!

Shamcey does represent the modern Filipina and Miss Universe 1960s. Nothing bad about that.
BUT she cannot represent Miss Universe 2011 because that crown celebrates diversity. How can you have diversity if you cannot even have religious tolerance?

I actually like her answer. Answering along the lines of diversity or religious tolerance seems like saying you want World Peace.
-
Sino ba yung hawig ni Shamcey sa FHM Phils, I forgot her name...
-
Si Cass Ponti? :)
-
shamcey gave a very honest answer---aprub!
meanwhile from facebook: basta, maganda ang mga pilipina, di na kailangan ng crown to prove it!---and also, world peace! ;D

Ms. Angolga really deserve the title.

Marami talagang magagaling from GenSan.
...Mommy D! ;D ;D ;D ;D

I don't recall her saying her bf needs to change religion for her either. Did she?
-
No controversy for me regarding Miss Angola winning. She was deserving as Shamcey would have been if the latter had won.
-
Ms. Brazil could have won if the pageant were not held in Brazil.
Ms. China is in the same cut as the Japanese candidates who won 1st runner up and Ms. Universe respectively in 2006 and 2007
Ms. Ukraine's beauty is heavenly.
But yeah, Ms. Angola has the eXtra-Factor. Watched her over and over and she really was special.
The last Q&A portion was irrelevant. Too corny (as always) I think.

Religion's got nothing to do with it. She didn't say that her God was better than anyone else's and she spoke on her faith and hers alone. That shows great character.
Ms. Universe of the 1960s!? Really!? Her response was thousands of times better than Miriam Quiambao's. Now, that's what you call 1960s.
I believe the exact quote was:
“If I have to change my religious beliefs, I would not marry the person that I love. Because the first person that I love is God, who created me.
“I have my faith and my principles, and this is what makes me who I am. If the person loves me, he’ll love my God, too.”
She's not asking anyone to change their beliefs. And she never attacked other religions. In fact, her message was all about tolerance and respect. Is sticking to your faith considered disrespectful and intolerant of other religions? If so, then we're all bigots.
Mag saya na lang tayo! ;D ;D ;D ;D

i would have responded the same way
it only shows how much Shamcey values her upbringing and the faith she has. Those are the kind of responses that makes a person winner by heart, She has responded accroding to how she feels about her faith in God and her and for that, she becomes a real winner to me.

actually, she said "she'll love my god"

Lesbian? Even better! ;D

i'm actually surprised that nobody has picked that up until my post.

I think it's a common slip of the tongue. She's not the only one to have that. Happens to everyone more often than not.

Physically, she improved a lot. Saw her several times training at Gold's Gym Galleria where I used to work out. Although pretty sans makeup she was a ghastly stick-figure and I thought she needed to eat more and to pack some muscles in her upper body. The trainor must have been thinking the same thing.
And I thought her answer at the Q&A was superb! Honest, responsive and direct to the point. I would have answered the same thing. She worked that answer on the assumption that changing her religious belief was not an option, kaya nga she started with "If I have to change my religious beliefs." If you think about it, it was a very intelligent answer indeed.
But the judges have already spoken, so let us respect that and be very happy and proud of Shamcey coz she really blew everyone away with her beauty, intelligence and her signature "tsunami" walk.

i'm actually surprised that nobody has picked that up until my post.
It's a cultural thing, I suppose. Few Filipinos have exposure to religions other than their own.
Most pinoys have few friends or relatives that are not Christian.
-
;D Siguro naman you'd agree with me that when it comes to religious beliefs, ipaglalaban mo ng patayan yan. So I think t's pointless debating on whether Shamcey answered correctly or not. To me she answered according to her religious conviction. Had she been a Muslim, she would have answered the same thing believe me.
But we cannot undo what has been done. Shamcey will forever be 3rd Runner up unless Ms. Angola dies, followed by Misses Ukraine and Brazil hahaha!!! Pero ang Pinoy talaga, in less than 24 hours, nagawa na ito. Watch!!

actually, she said "she'll love my god"
sounded more like "... if that person loves me, [he] should love my god too"

Ah, oo. Napabilis lang yung pagkasabi. Pero I think wala syang sinabi na "he", deretso lang sa "should".

Done watching the Miss Universe event on tape, i cant help but criticize the judges for asking lousy questions.
A great answer depends on a great question and those questions for Miss Phil and Ms China are lousy questions.
Lucky was Ms Angola where she was able to pick Lea Salonga and Lea did gave Ms Angola a Great question w/c was answered greatly through an interpreter.
Ms Angola deserved the title. She's beauty on the dark side, i can just imagine how gorgeous she may look if only she's white skinned.

The typical Pinoy belief na "mas maganda kung maputi" is something I find really interesting. Skin whitening products are really a multi million peso industry here... while in the States, tanning salons and products make a killing.
The grass is always greener...?

like what she said... she will not change her physical appearance... in my opinion... pangit siya kapag maputi.

According to Lea's tweet, all the judges questions were pre-written and they were assigned a question each. It did not come from themselves. Luck of draw.

i wanted to post during the time of the pageant that miss angola was a sure winner... pero i didnt want to take all the blame at sisihin na nagdilang demonyo ako and pulled down shamcey...(at least in pdvd)... so i kept to myself...
but iba talaga yung radiance nya..
totoo sabi ni leah.. the tv cannot transmit the energy of the contestants live...
back in 94 when miss universe was held here (time ni charlene gonzales) i went to manila hotel where the candidates were staying.. loitered in the lobby hoping to catch a glimpse of the girls.. (and then miss belgium.. everbody's crush)... i saw some candidates.. miss cook island ata yun and some other candidates i forgot where from.. they were all...wow!! malayo sa tv... lahat sila panalo... even miss zimbabwe ata or miss namibia.... basta lahat pwede!
so i could only reckon if you watch them live.. kakaiba talaga..

EDITORIAL - Poor losers
If Shamcey Supsup can accept with dignity and grace what must have been her shattering disappointment, there is no reason why the rest of us cannot. Yet consider how Filipinos reacted to the results that saw the Miss Universe title go to somebody else:
Someone cooked up the yarn about Oprah Winfrey supposedly issuing comments to the effect that Shamcey should have won. Senator Miriam Santiago threatened to file a protest against the judging. A TV network sought and found former beauty queens to publicly badmouth the contest.
Shamcey has come a long way from her “promdi” roots in Gensan to graduating magna cum laude in Architecture from UP, to topping the board exams, to becoming Miss Philippines, then to landing in the Miss Universe Top 10.
Shamcey is already every inch a winner. But every sour note and grape we attach to her not winning the title only serves to diminish the sacrifices she endured to become the person that she is — beautiful, intelligent, and extremely lucky.
As she herself said after the contest, one cannot have it all. So, as she moves on with her life, so should we. We cannot be forever griping, especially since we have such a very bad track record about it.
Remember Venus Raj and how her countrymen made fun of her “major major” answer? Well, those countrymen are us, and we made fun of her and her answer because she did not win. Had she won, nobody would have given a damn what her answer was.
We are, as a people, very poor losers. And we are so not just in beauty contests but in a great many other aspects — politics, sports, etc. We prime ourselves like crazy for a win but we cannot handle defeat.
Like Venus Raj before her, Shamcey Supsup was primed for a win by the TV networks. Hardly a story was reported in the run-up to the Miss Universe contest that did not hype the supposed popularity of our bet. Filipinos were conditioned to believe it was all over but the crowning.
Well, hype and fan votes do not win contests. Whoever allowed fan votes to muddle the real score and invite controversy only had making money out of the votes in mind. The lesson for contest crazy Filipinos is this: If you cannot handle the outcome, do not join the process.

They should telecast Miss Universe in 3D and we should all adopt 3D. hehehe.
That fan voting was rather a mess up. Where were those votes coming from anyways? If you listen closely to the live audience, they were loudest on Brazil (duh) and Angola.
I'm still hoping that they will include a No Make-Up Competition in any beauty pageant...I really want to see those faces with no magical foundation at all. That should be interesting for the 1B viewers worldwide.

Well kung makinis at maganda talaga, lalabas at lalabas yon kahit anong lahi diba (do you still remember those tight Japanese and Korean complexion Philip? hehe). Meron din na-over-make-up kaya pumapangit sa TV. Look at Ms. Brazil and J. Lo sa American Idol.
-
over all it was a tight competition.
i liked Ms Columbia but she didnt make it to the TOP 5.
also Ms Malaysia didnt make it to the TOP 16.

;D Heard Jessica Soho's interview of Lea and this is what the latter said:
The judges were looking for the "spark". Ms Angola had it.
From a judge's perspective, it was really different if you were there at the live telecast. Iba ang arrive ni Ms. Angola. She was truly breathtaking and they couldn't take their eyes off her.
So the moral of the story is: It's not about the answer. It's how you radiated and sent that magical vibe across. Ms. Angola wasn't just a spark, she's a firework! Any which way Shamcey answered her question would still elicit same results.
So there!

Some people out there who posted pro-Shamcey comments involving Oprah through social networks were shocked with this news from yesterday.

"I picked Miss Angola to win," admits Lea Salonga
http://www.spot.ph/the-feed/49318/i-picked-miss-angola-to-win-admits-lea-salonga
Published: Sep 15, 2011 - 7:24am
In the wake of the this year's Miss Universe pageant (and more than a few violent reactions over its outcome), showbiz columnist Ricky Lo did a follow-up interview with Tony Award-winning singer Lea Salong, who was one of the judges.
In today's edition of The Philippine Star, Lo wrote: "In a text interview with Funfare Update, Lea Salonga, the fifth Filipino to sit as Miss Universe judge, said, 'I picked Miss Angola to win. I’m not sure what the other judges did. As for why Shamcey didn’t win, it isn’t anything she did wrong. It’s just that taking overall impact into consideration, from where we were sitting, Leila Lopes was just above and beyond everyone else.'"
Lo further wrote that Salonga said, "If we weren’t unanimous in picking the winner, we almost were. Many of us were in agreement that Miss Angola should win. It's how we each ranked the runners-up that differed. I ranked Shamcey second. But another judge may have ranked her fourth or fifth. I was happy though with how Shamcey did. That fourth place out of 89. Pretty darn good, I thought."
In closing, Salonga quipped, "We were told to judge them all objectively. What I now don’t understand is the brouhaha following the pageant’s conclusion. Everyone needs to respect the judges’ decision. I stand by my ranking."
For the record, the 2011 Miss Universe entourage is made up of Miss Angola (Miss Universe), Miss Ukraine Olesya Stefanko (first runner-up), Miss Brazil Priscila Machado (second runner-up), Miss Philippines Shamcey Supsup (third runner-up), and Miss China Luo Zilin (fourth runner-up).

It's very sad to see that despite Shamcey's excellent accomplishment, some Filipinos are acting like complete losers :D

Maraming ganyan dito mismo sa forums natin ;) ;D Kaya, I'm not surprised. Wika nga, "Shamcey competed for the title of Ms. Universe -- NOT Ms. America."
