Out of curiosity, i've tried setting up my laptop to output HD movies via HDMI to my receiver, it only outputs video, but not audio.
No problem if i connect hdmi directly to the TV.
Am I doing something wrong?
I am running on windows 8, with stock realtek HD audio driver

Is your receiver capable of decoding sudio signals via HDMI?
-
Sir kindly try to set the hdmi as default audio device.

SIr, what player are you using?
-
What brand ang laptop niyo sir?

it's either the laptop configuration via "Control Panel" - "sound" and or the software player configuration.

Currently using VLC media player

How did your PC detect your receiver? Did it see the bitstreams that it can support?
-
you probably just to have to set up the audio device in the programs you are using. like in reclock set it for your receiver and use either direct sound or wasapi.
for foobar, same thing. wasapi then select your device. the receiver model is usually displayed :).
