Title: 45k budget
Post by: DTNS on Jun 15, 2012 at 03:48 PM
Hi everyone,

how would you spend a 45k budget? I currently just have an LG 42LK450. I have yet to get receiver and external speakers for it. I'm thinking of either getting an entry receiver + a 5.1 speaker system, or a mid-range receiver + bookshelf speakers. (subwoofer, surround channels, center chanel to follow)

which would you recommend and why? please give specific brand/model suggestions.

Thanks!  :)

Witches he he he...

DTNS - Get a midrange receiver, pero choose wisely on your bookshelf speakers...Later if you wanted to complete your setup, you can always put your bookshelf as surround and get the best fronts and center you can afford...Syempre of same brand.. Planning your setup is the key..

Unless mayaman ka tulad ni xrampage na may palasyo at madaming pambili nang gears na anytime pwedeng palitan kasi madaming moolah...

Or

Get a simple receiver, 2nd hand will do.. then get the best front speakers you can afford that you think will last with you for 3 years or more.... Then follow mo na yung iba pag nagka moolah ka..

reading the thread, parang ganyan-ganyan nabasa ko doon sa chit-chat ... HTIB initially yung tanong, maya-maya palaki ng palaki recommendations :)

anyway sali na rin ako - I would be spending my 45k for a mid-range AVR (Onkyo 609 or 709, or Denon 1912), then just budget for a good 2.0 system and wait till another budget is available for the center, then for the rear, and last yung sub-woofer ... a good floor stander 2.0 system would give you very good performance on sound quality compared to a cheap 5.1 speaker setup ... yung entry level na AVR naman limited yung power and features.

Post by: Billabong on Jun 15, 2012 at 11:56 PM
I suggest pick first the speakers you like then build your system around them.

Ang receiver madaling maluma (yearly nagpapalit ng models) pero ang magandang set of speakers will last for so many years.

With an initial budget of 45k, kung ako I'll get a preowned mid-end receiver and a pair of floorstanders muna. To follow yung sub, center and surrounds.

Not bad din naman ang 2.0 or 2.1 set-up for movies especially kung maganda yung fronts.

Ako get an avr with preouts to future proof your system. Look at the 709 instead of the 609. Or look for the yammie 671. I think that's the lowest yamaha model that has one. Regarding the speaker choices, tama si don master paul/billabong. I suggest you audition first and find the speakers that catches your liking. Regarding the sub, just make sure its not the jbl gt5-s12 model, it's fake.

I got to audition the Polk TSi 100 earlier at The Listening Room. they sound pretty good and clear to me. though Ronald (the guy who attended to me there) doesn't recommend using it without a sub if I'm gonna listen to hip-hop, rock, or other things that need much low-end punch.

regarding the JBL GT5-12 in marco's subs, I don't think he'll use a fake on his work. he even warned against JBL GT5 fakes on page 1 of his thread.  ;)

pagisipan mo mabuti if you will go the htib route or even the polk tsi100. kung ako, unahin ko muna yung front speakers na maayos sa pure audio listening. also, should be flexible enough to be placed as surrounds sa future in case of upgradititis. partner it with a receiver that has a good amp section para maitawid lng. tsaka na muna yung center, sub at surrounds when additional budget comes along. mabubuo mo din yung straight system before you know it. good luck!  ;)

I understand your dilemma. Yan ang tinatawag na masarap na problema! ;D

5.1 HTIB - Instant gratification. Meron ka agad complete 5.1 HT set-up pero yung tunog is relatively mediocre. Chances are you're going to upgrade din agad.

2.0 first then slowly to 5.1 - Long term satisfaction. The sound quality will be far better compared to an HTIB. Matutuwa ka dahil paganda ng paganda tunog ng HT mo as you add more components. The itch for upgrades will always be there. But if you start off with a good foundation (your preferred main speakers + a mid-end A/V receiver), the chances of you upgrading is lesser.

+1 to this.

back when i started, i had 50k as budget.  i bought a 25k receiver and a 25k HTIB.
the receiver lasted awhile longer, but the HTIB was a total "loss" when upgrading.
25k could buy a decent receiver with preouts back then.

i would recommend the receiver + 2.0 route.  then add a sub.  then new fronts (move old fronts to rears).  then center.

I'd go for the Midlevel Receiver + Front Speakers for the 45k budget.

You can check out the new genesis collection from Anthony Audio.
If brand conscious, the RTi A3 would be a good startup speakers given the budget.

I'll probably go for an HK AVR 265 or Onkyo 609/ 616 + Polk TSi 100 for the fronts. I'll relegate the TSi 100s to surrounds when I have the budget for floorstanders and a center channel.
