Title: Question about DVD prices
Post by: IsuLrae on Feb 02, 2009 at 07:54 PM
Can anyone tell me how the different distributors of DVDs in our country cut down their prices gradually? I'm quite new to these DVD talks. It would really be helpful! :)
Thanks in advance!

Look out for sales that occur quarterly (March, June, Sept., etc.). The frequency increases when nearing the Christmas holidays.

Star Records - Price Seldom Change.  Pricey at 695 or so for local movies.

Viva (ABC, Fox, Disney, MGM).  550 or 750 at launch.  Discounted to 299 or so after around 3 months or during sales at malls.

C Interactive (New Line, etc). Variable pricing.  199 to @695 depending on desirability of title.  Discounts after a few months but mostly not permanent.

Magnavision (Sony, Paramount): Giftset pricey.  Imported 695 1 disc. @895 - 2 discs. 375 -550 locally pressed DVDs.  Discounted to 375 then 275, then 199, then 125 after maybe 6 months, 9 months, a year, 2 years.

Warner.  475 - 895.  Discounts after 6-9 months.  Warner is closing shop, so the next distributor's pricing scheme is unknown.

Solar:  199-350.  Discounts unknown. But discs are often of low PQ.  Avoid unless absolutely wanted.

General guide.  Prices are approximation.  And Discounts scheme )(like buy-one-take-one, etc) are frequently changed in a dynamic market.  And sometimes, distributors will throw a few curveballs to spice up the market.
