I usually can't stand any "Disney Channel Original Movies," but this one was quite entertaining. Very simple, but fun.

Although midway through the film, I had a bit of a shock, since I realized that I had seen the music teacher in a different musical two decades ago, and time hasn't been kind...  :o

 ;D

singing: "let me dance for you..." LOL...

yeah. very few cringe-inducing moments considering it's a "family-oriented" disney film. thoroughly enjoyable. in case anyone's old enough to remember the movie "lambada" or "xanadu", this one is directed by choreographer kenny ortega.  ;D

the soundtrack's pretty cool too. favorite songs are: "start of something new", "we're all in this together" and "breaking free".  ;)

So, did anyone watch it? I'm surprised to find out that Zac Efron used a singing double for most of his songs, since he actually got his start in show business in musical theater.

Anyway, back to this comment:

I watched it and I really liked it!!! Though some parts are really corny, I will still get the DVD!!!

Kenny Ortega finally has a hit after the disastrous Newsies and Hocus Pocus. I liked it too. Tuned out during most of the dialogue but I was glued during most of the musical numbers especially Breaking Free and Start of Something New.

So that was her!  ;D Too bad she didn't burst into song. Maybe in the sequel.

if you like singing along to the songs... there's a special edition of the soundtrack that comes with a bonus CD+G disc containing instrumental versions of the songs.  ;D

(http://img72.imageshack.us/img72/3046/highschoolmusical2zm.th.jpg) (http://img72.imageshack.us/my.php?image=highschoolmusical2zm.jpg)

i believe the dvd has that feature as well... in videoke.  ;D

yeah... definitely weird. i thought it was only for "getcha head in the game" tho.

That was probably the single stupidest thing I've seen on TV since CHiPS '99. (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0162898/)

I loved every cheesy moment of it.

yeah... definitely weird. i thought (the voice double) was only for "getcha head in the game" tho.

Is that the case? I thought I noticed a change in the voice during "We're Breakin' Free" from the first line he actually sings to when the double picks up after Vanessa's first line. Maybe it was just a shift from speaking to singing voice. But he's supposedly training with a vocal coach so he can do all his own singing for the sequel.

It's not karaoke, though. It's just "sing along with the movie," so although there are highlighted lyrics, the actors' voices are still there.

Oh, and the "Learn the (Dance) Moves" featurette on the DVD is a little bit too hard to follow...  ;D

Oh, and the "Learn the (Dance) Moves" featurette on the DVD is a little bit too hard to follow...  ;D

i can't believe you even tried. LOL.

i guess the "instructional" was meant for the younger set who seem to have no problem picking up the dance steps.  :P

i think the "singing double" was actually the writer of the songs (whose name escapes me at the moment.) it was admirable that zack efron was honest enough to admit it though.  ;D

Oh wow. The concept was pitched as a TRILOGY daw???

If that's the case, I predict a break up in Part 2, so there can be a big reconciliation in Part 3.

That would be typical Disney.  :P

When a soundtrack album of a TV movie shoots to number one on the Billboard charts, people will notice.

That's the only reason I even heard of this film!  ;D

ditto... it didn't only shoot up the charts, it made history... jumping from 58 to 1 in one week... it beat kelly clarkson's old record of 52 to 1.  ;D

My son and daughter were really waiting for this, and so are my yayas. I was surprised my kids can follow some the songs. In the end, I too was enjoying this.
I guess this is one of those that me and my kids like to watch together. We'll watch again the replay and the making next week.  ;D

Kids at my son's school will not stop talking about it. Funny, since they're only 9-10 years old. ;D

I am so clueless about this one, I don't know if it's a TV show or a movie....until my son came home from school one day and said all his classmates ever talked about was HIGH SCHOOL MUSICAL.

Was surfing info about the cast and IMDB lists that Vanessa may have Filipino blood. Zac also played the young Simon in Firefly. Will watch the Safe episode again tomorrow.  ;D And the other jock who was into Kelsi, he played the young Colin Hart in Everwood.

Second viewing was as entertaining as the first one.  ;D

Alright, I know I'm not that old but I could not relate. I had to fake liking it for my son  ;D :-X, who did ask me if I liked it, when the movie was over. It was tooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo cute! Even the mean girl's cute (siyempre it's Disney ::) ). I wanted to shake off the cuteness, I felt it was in my system for 2 hours. ;D

But I did tune in for the songs. The songs are cool (and yes, also cute, nevertheless, cool pa rin. I like the melody).

OTOH, Emperor's New Groove the TV Series (teasers during commercial breaks) --- now that one, I will definitely watch. ;)

I had some friends over for the PACQUIAO fight, and I made them stay until dinner time so we can watch this together. Because I didn't want to try out the dance steps alone.

You heard me.

Vanessa Anne Hudgens ("Gabriella") is Pinay! Her mom is "Gina Guangco"!

I guess after Miss Saigon, Pinays really did take over the musical genre.  ;D

My Kids are so into this TV Movie that I have to bring in the DVD from the States!

I was really surprised that my 3 kids (11, 7 and 4) all know the lyrics of the songs especially when they watched the premier telecast on Disney several weeks back.

Looking forward to buying the soundtrack when its available locally

My recent PLDT DSL problems made me revisit some of the shows I have on hand that I hadn't found time to watch. I decided to finally watch some "Summerland."

Boy, Zac Efron definitely found a BRILLIANT orthodontist between doing that show and doing "High School Musical."  ;D

I should be too old for this....but I enjoyed every second of the film.  The song numbers are so entertaining that I can't get them out of my head.  I'm almost embarrassed to admit that I bought the DVD as well.

BTW, the soundtrack is currently the biggest selling album of 2006, already 3 times platinum.  And it's still in the top 10 albums list on Billboard, six months after it was released.  The DVD is breaking sales records as well.  This is truly a pop culture phenomenon.

Watched this last Saturday with my wife and daughter.  After watching it, it's inevitable to compare it with the movie.  Well, for one thing, the movie's better.  The actors were really amateurish and didn't sing quite well (lots of flats and sharps).  Nevertheless, my daughter enjoyed it since she knows most of the songs in it.

That would be Andrew Seeley, Spiff.

I just saw excerpts from High School Musical: The Concert (So sue me). Good to see that Seeley finally got a little recognition for his work on the top-selling soundtrack, as he was the one performing with the rest of the cast instead of Efron. I suppose the tickets and posters made it very clear he'd be the one in the concert, since I think most tweens would be pretty disappointed/angry to see the lead of the movie was suddenly being played by someone else, otherwise.

After I changed to my houseclothes, naisalang na nila and they started watching it. "Sawa" na kasi sila.
