I do not know if this has been discussed before.
I really want my collection of Tagalog DVD's to grow.
However, it is so mahal!!! ranging from php450-php600
It's even more expensive than imported Region 3 DVD's
as of now I only have VIVA titles because prices are very reasonable.
Regal films and other studios are a bit steep ???

Star Video lowering their prices? that would be the day.
I was able to buy "'Wag Kang Lilingon" for 250pesos at SM Lipa, it was on sale for a couple of weeks then it went back to its original price of 550pesos. That's my only Star Video release, with the exception of Himala, 299pesos only. ;D

to answer your question --- hehehe yan nga ang problema sa mga pinoy gusto malaki ang kita pero ang pangit naman ang produkto. ::)

Local studios have to recover their production cost on the FIRST batch of DVDs produced. That's not a problem for popular releases especially when released internationally like Hollywood films. Economies of scale is on their side. But for local films with just the pinoy market, you're talking of just a few. The cost of DVD production is basically the same for local and hollywood films. Except in the area of authoring the DVD master contents where the hollywood films have more features.

kaya ako pag tagalog film vcd na lang binibili ko ganun din naman ang quality
-
If I'm not mistaken I think I only have less than 10 Tagalog titles ???
The problem is I do want to pay php450 for a VCD quality DVD release.
Why naman does VIVA have affordable prices? at php150-php250 only.

that was before. pero lately, magkaiba na 'yung quality nila. mapapansin mo na 'yung difference ng dalawang format. dati, parang isa lang ang source ng vcd at dvd kaya iisa lang ang quality. sa ngayon, vcds are from dvds kaya compressed na. converted baga, may pixellations.

Based on experience, I believe because VIVA DVDs are the same with VCD formats, it just so happened that the entire film is just on one disc as compared to a VCD.
