Post by: jpadua on Jun 28, 2003 at 09:01 AM
What do you think would be the best Reference DVD that you have for displaying both Audio and Video? Imagine may bisita ka sa inyo and you want to demo your Home Theatre Setup.  ;D

Terminator 2 Extreme Ed.(for Video, 1080p telecine transfer) - DD-EX
The 5th Element - DTS
Attack of the Clones - DD-EX
Stargate Ultimate Ed. (for the Audio, Excelent!) DTS-ES Discrete 6.1

saving private ryan........
the longest day.........

both of these movies have a non stop action scene for at least 20 minutes,
kaya maririnig nila talaga ang lakas ng speakers at sound system mo

Lobby shootout in Matrix
First and last 30 minutes of  Saving Private Ryan
Defense of rebel hideout in Matrix Revolutions
Depth charge explosions in U751
First 20 minutes of the walt disney animation Atlantis

So far these are top of my mind at the moment to showcase my HT.  I also have a special DVD made by a fellow PDVD member dilligent enough to compile all these showcase DVD segments into a 3-disc DVD.  ;D

since ilang years pa lang ako sa DVD, i always use War of the Worlds as a reference disc, khit grainy yung picture, i loved the sound in DTS, especially dun sa lightning strikes at yung unang attack nung mga aliens.

More than once i showed Ice Age to  friends where at the beginning of the movie was showed Scrat trying to find a place to bury and hide his acorn in the ice. I turn the volume up until the room rumbles while the ice are cracking.
That to me is still the best sound i ever got from any DVD. Most girls would scream when scrat was stepped on by one of the giant dinosaur in a herd. and funnier when a jumpy guy friend suddenly kicked with his left leg when he watched that scene. ;D

DOMINO DTS-ES

Not just awesome music, surrounds and LFE. But even the HF noises are just SO CLEAR!!! Its a must have for any HT enthusiast!

Every shot fired, water splash, glass break, guitar string plucked, speech, clinking noises, etc are excellently encoded in DTS-es with stunning clarity.

I just watched it last night and it definitely falls under "best reference DVD" in my book.
