ginebra played a superb game tonight. however, we must not forget that this is not the same powerade team that made the all filipino cup last year. lassiter and casio are gone. perhaps, bgsm's next game game will be a better gauge at how they might fare this conference.
tenorio, although scoring only two points, still made an impact --- 8 rebounds and 10 assists
Asan na c casio ngaun?
Alaska.
New PBA season ...... new players ...... same old Quinito Henson - probably the most clueless sportscaster .... ever.
Quinito has always had enthusiasm ..... with his shallow & always-the-obvious analysis ...... not to mention, his no-imagination player monickers - he's becoming more annoying as the years go by,
============================================================================
BGK's forward lineup is way loaded ...... Maliksi, Ababou, Maierhofer, Ellis, Jensen & Espiritu ...... plus solid vets Hatfield & Wilson.
Tenorio looks to be in high spirits - something he rarely showed with ALASKA the last 2 years.
Was Quinito Henson more annoying than those 3 eggheads (Salbakulaw) introducing the teams? >:( >:( >:(
Abueva now, alaska vs. Petron.. Playing like a rookie, ginugulangan ni santos and washington.. Hehe..
Abueva's got 7 points and 11 rebounds with 1 quarter to go. Malamang double double to. HERE COMES THE BEAST!! Abueva gave Washington a mean smirk after nautakan ni Abueva si Washington...
I really like this guy. Bring back the old PBA Calvin with your kind of rugged play...
He started slow, but he now got 16 rebounds.. Wow..
At nanalo pa sila! That was 12 pts, 16 rebound monster game from the Beast. Simula pa lang yan. Wala pang alam sa Triangle offense yan ha!! Balik PBA na ako after a loooong time...
another win and 16-12 performance from Abueva.. this time, 16pts 12 rebs in 23 mins.. better shooting as well..
the rookies this year have been impressive especially the unheralded ones.. Global's triumvirate of AJ Mandani, Jason Deutchman and Vic Manuel are proving that they belong in the league.. Raffy Reyes of Alaska (son of Elmer Reyes) is a pretty good back-up.. good outside shooter, strong, can really jump and a pesky defender.. quality minutes binibigay every game..
We've seen this many times before with BGK ....... they stack themselves with players from a single position - which results to very inconsistent minutes and very confusing player rotations from Tanquincen or Uichico.
Their forward lineup is ultra-loaded (guards, just a few years ago) ....... big risk that Tanquincen will make the same mistakes again.
Expect him to spread the minutes around, rather than keep a tight one - which champion coaches Tim Cone and Chot Reyes will always do.
BGK should consider trading Espiritu (if the rules allow it) and/or Wilson (while he still has good value).
abueva is for real, 2nd game in double double figures.
the first game was controversial. although it is in the rules, and even if Salud explained it (obviously irritated) i still think that what reavis did was goal tending. it's just me...or is it because it was sanmig coffee mixers?? :P
adhering to that rule invites "gulang". any opposing player can just wait for the ball to touch the rim and swat it away afterwards.
I've seen harder fouls than that.. I'm no James Yap fan but I agree, that didn't warrant a suspension.. and here's a video of why James Yap did that to Jireh.. on the 55:38 mark of this video (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HIP8FHH3JXw), you'll see Yap get hit on the face by a forearm from Jireh..
even if Jireh did that on purpose, personally, i do not find it to be a justification for Yap to retaliate. and that does not serve to mitigate the foul he committed. if every player who commits a flagrant foul on another would say that "he did something to me a while ago first", there will have to be a change of tag line -- from "PBA: Kampihan na!" to "PBA: Gantihan na!".
they actually changed the rules on flagrant foul suspensions during the 2009-2010 season.. it became the commissioner's discretion dahil dun sa landing spot rule dati.. it has to be FF Penalty 2 and resulted in a dire consequence..
http://www.pba.ph/blogs/entry/85
it's not just SMC but more like the rich teams.. the commissioner's discretion applies favorably to rich teams..
similar to LD Williams' case was the De Ocampo elbow to Sean Anthony in last season's All-Filipino Cup finals.. it even caused a cut over Anthony's eyebrow that needed to be stitched.. Anthony didn't even get to come back in the game but it was just a Flagrant 1.. it was upgraded to Flagrant 2 by Salud with 20K fine but no suspension..

That was one hell of a game! 94-92 for Alaska.
Alaska just stole that game away from TNT behind hot and clutch shooting from Casio and Abueva. Casio scored 10pts in 58 secs (three 3s with 1 being a 4-point play) to give Alaska the lead after being down 12pts in the 4th. Ala-Reggie Miller. Then he made that game-winning layup from a set that resembled the Spurs' winning play against OKC kanina. And that 3 from Abueva to tie the game at 90 was clutch. He fouled out but his impact was felt. 14pts, 5rebs, 5stls, 2blks and a few assists. Guy's for real!
I gotta hand it to Uytengsu for giving his full support to Luigi Trillo. Not really a fan of Luigi but the moves he made with the coaching staff has been brilliant. Hiring Alas and Compton were excellent moves. Alas and Topex know how to handle Abueva. And it's obvious Compton has had a hand on those perimeter plays they keep running.
Luigi's rotation has been on the money in their 5-game winning streak. Starters remain fresh for the endgame because the bench has been solid. He's giving the bench a lot of confidence kaya maganda performance. After the 1st 2 games I thought Luigi was too raw for the PBA. So far, he's showing the opposite. One thing though that's going to hurt Alaska one of these days is rebounding. Almost did them in tonight.
Oh, and that goaltending controversy helped Alaska tonight. That was a block by Williams but I think the refs were scared of another controversy so they blew the whistle.
He is now the official leader in rebounds in the PBA, after only 4 games.
^ Am starting to like Alaska now, I hope they face Rain or Shine soon to see how will the 2 extra rice play against Abueva.. Like watching the beast, ang sipag, kahit san nandun..
I saw Nic Belasco in Alaska's bench. Just wondering why he hasn't been used at all. He is one player who can do a lot of things both offensively and defensively. Does Alaska consider him too old to keep up with the younger players? Or maybe he just doesn't fit in Alaska's system.
I just find it strange that it's the young guys who get injured so fast..
Ginebra now on a 5-game slide.. coaching staff has to go.. malas pa nila at na-injure si Dylan Ababou.. I pray it's not an ACL tear cuz' the kid's promising but it looked like it is..
pansin ko lang these past few years, the top picks have been in and out of the lineup in their first few years due to injury.. Casio didn't get to play in the first few games of his rookie year.. Paul Lee is still injured after missing majority of last season's 3rd conference.. Chris Lutz missed almost the entire 2nd conference last season.. Lassiter missed the entire 3rd conference and just recently got back.. tapos ngayong season, Fajardo has just played 3 games.. before that, Al Hussaini suffered an ACL tear on his rookie year.. Maierhofer suffered an ACL tear on his sophomore year..
I just find it strange that it's the young guys who get injured so fast..
probably because most of the time its all brawn and not brain, mas madali nalalaspag ang mga baguhang player dahil di pa maingat sa mga galaw nila, some 10 years ago, parang bihirang bihira yata ang nagka ACL.
in previous post, i bravely said di sisikat si abueva sa pba, well im eating my words obviously, but not to mean harm, pag di sya mag iingat at mag pace ng sarili ng tama, baka ang tamang prediction is baka di sya mag tagal, yung mga tulad nya eh very prone to injury
^ how about Louie Alas?
I don't think that's it.. I think it's more of their conditioning.. if you look at the veteran stars now, those who've played for over 10 years, they've already made a name for themselves before they succumbed to a major injury.. Ildefonso and Seigle already won multiple individual awards and championships before they got injured.. same with Mark Caguioa and Helterbrand.. and these guys played all-out during their rookie days..
the last 3 ROY winners have had major surgery already before even finishing their 2nd year.. Paul Lee was becoming the face of RoS but now, when you talk about RoS, you think Jeff Chan.. Maierhofer was going to be one of the main frontline guys for then B-Meg but he got injured and lost his spot.. same with Al-Hussaini.. the PBA these days isn't even that physical and yet young guys are dropping like flies..
Louie Alas the coach of Letran? What about him? He's the assistant coach of Alaska now together with San Sebastian Coach Topex Robinson mainly to TAME THE BEAST. And both are doing well.
Or are you referring to Alas' son Kevin?
as per alvares....
“Kailangan ng guard ng Ginebra while yung Petron naman, malaki ang kailangan nila dahil injured si (June Mar) Fajardo and (Danny) Ildefonso,” said Alvarez.
so why Ginebra will send Mike Cortez? ei guard na naman si MC.... ;D ;D ;D
Baka...
the point is guard parin makukuha ng ginebra....at yung sinasabi ni alvarez na kailangan ng Ginebra ng guard ei parang hindi akma....buti sana kung ang ililipat ng Ginebra ay si Mamaril, Mairhofer or kung sino man na bigman nila....maaring may sense ang sinabi niyang kailangan ng Barangay ng Guard...
I am a Ginebra fan at basketball player (kanto kanto hahaha) at coach din (kanto kanto din hahaha) ang kailangan ng Barangay ay Coach at Coaching staff na kayang mag motivate ng players....sabi nga nila sa taas kumpletos rekados ang line-up sobra pa nga ei...proper man rotation ang kailangan gawin ng Coach ay siguradong makakapanalo sila...
i mean can louie alas be an option to coach ginebra?
i mean can louie alas be an option to coach ginebra?
i predict it's gona be Alfrancis Chua taking over Ginebra as head coach in the very near future.
thanks, sir.
i guess BGSM wanted a young gun for a center. or maybe other teams are not willing to let go of their bigs. this is a gamble -- letting go of a veteran in exchange for a rookie. they really need a big man, anyway, and there still is an abundance of players in their guard spot. i just hope that Taha does not turn out to be a lemon. otherwise, sayang ang pagbitaw nila kay Cortez.
Despite all the players movements, SMC teams suck!
Much better we just cheer for Alaska with Abueva and Casio instead.
Alaska vs TNT nlng agad sa Finals.
not all SMC teams... SanMig seems to be doing okay... parang sila ang favorite child ngayon ng SMC. Excellent frontline, great backcourt.
Yup, San Mig Coffee has been doing great.
San Mig Coffee is loaded ..... just as BGK and PETRON are loaded.
The one big difference is Tim Cone.
Siot seems to have worn out his welcome in BGK ..... while PETRON's Racela is too raw for a PBA head-coaching gig - but hey, talent almost always win in the PBA.
Perhaps Tim Cone has the final with regards to the composition of his line up unlike at Petron and Ginebra where the coaches are just like puppets at sunud sunuran lng sa management.

In my experience mas ok pa sa SM. ;)

Abueva is no saint but a hit like this is really uncalled for.. a hard foul or a bump to a rookie as initiation is alright.. but slapping him straight on the face is just plain dirty.. no foul called here but it seems like the referee who didn't blow his whistle has been suspended 4 games.. Rob Reyes has yet to be sanctioned, though.. may binilin pa siyang mga salita after the hit..

They are now on a 4 game winning streak ;)
five wins in a row for BGSM! peaking at the right time? perhaps.
Abueva just showed everyone why he was picked by Alaska over Hodge. 20pts 18rebs against Hodge and Meralco. Much more than the stats, sa impact dinaig ni Abueva si Hodge. All game long, nararamdaman yung presence ni Abueva on both ends. You can't say the same for Hodge. Tonight, Abueva played like a franchise player while Hodge looked like just another rookie.
Rookie MVP? kaya ba?
Mahirap kasi Alaska isn't really a championship caliber team at this point.. stats-wise, though, he'll surely be a contender..
What a game between ros and smc.
nabati eh. they lost to Barako and with TNT as their last opponent, delikado pa Ginebra bumagsak sa 7th spot and a twice-to-win disadvantage..
Barumbado kasi maglaro ang RoS eh.haha! although I like belga. he fouls like its always a finals game.
Team Extra Rice vs. SMC Glamour Boys ;D
haha! although I like belga. he fouls like its always a finals game.
imo, that's the right way of giving a foul to the shooter, as long as it's not a closed fist, intentional and/or a let go situation, let's say a dunk.
that's the problem I have with these RoS guys. they foul hard kahit dribble lang ginagawa ng kalaban. I remember Belga doing a football tackle against a PG who hasn't even crossed the half court line yet. He lowered his shoulder straight to the guys chest when holding him to prevent a fastbreak was enough. Fouling hard to prevent a basket or a 3pt play is acceptable. But a hard foul on a guy who's not even in a scoring position is just dirty.
yan ang turo ni Guaio! ;)
Remember Jimuel Turion ? >:(
Great come from behind win by Alaska ;D Down by 15 yata (or more) in the 3rd Quarter, Alaska made a furious 4th Q run to beat Petron. Abueva nailed the go ahead basket with 1 minute remaining. Energizing win by the Aces going to the playoffs...
Gotta hand it to Luigi Trillo. He was a mess 'til the middle of the 3rd. He kept Abueva in even after the 2nd foul. That messed up their game plan. He started the 2nd half with Eman and Jazul. The lead ballooned to 21. But when he found his 5, he stuck with it.
He barely used Hontiveros in their past 2 games but he played him the entire 4th tonight. And that paid off when Hontiveros got Lassiter's 6th foul. Abueva was out of control starting the 3rd dahil sa gigil. Luigi pulled him out to settle down. He managed Thoss' minutes, keeping him fresh sa endgame. And I liked that he kept Baguio and Casio in the game most of the time, not pulling them out and destroying their rhythm.
Abueva really is a game changer. And surprisingly, a pretty smart player. He actually knows when to stop unlike his NCAA days.
Barring any injuries to their core, this team could be contenders. Maybe not this conference but in a conference or 2, they'd be up there.

Actually they lead 21pts on the 3rd then I already switched channel since seems like Petron is not missing anything.
Then as I try to check the end score, ayun 3pt lead na lang on last 2 minutes of 4th so tutok uli. Sayang di ko nakita
pano hinabol. :)
Must really be a collapse both on offense and defense for Petron. Buti na lang BGSM fan. :)
May game pa ba Ginebra for elimination? For some reason ayaw magopen ng PBA website sakin.
May game pa ba Ginebra for elimination? For some reason ayaw magopen ng PBA website sakin.
dapat magpahinga na lang starters ng bgk.
PETRON's Racela is miles away from competing with coaches like Cone, Guiao, etc.
It's an unfair comparison.
in fairness to Olsen, the circumstances in which he became a PBA head coach were less than ideal.. he was really just a coach on paper to start the season.. it's unfair to expect much from him given the circumstances..
anyway, Alaska marches to the semis after an 88-70 drubbing of Meralco.. they put up a defensive clinic earlier.. a defense highlighted by that Abueva block on Buenafe wherein he pinned the ball then grabbed it in one motion.. mabilis sila sa switches, they fought the screens and their hands were active in blocking the passing lanes.. they meet TNT next and if they play the same way they did vs Meralco, they've got a chance against the defending champs.. also, with their entry into the semis, Calvin Abueva is making a legitimate run at that elusive Rookie-MVP award.. stats-wise, he's already 2nd to Arwind this conference.. if he's consistent and Alaska keeps going deep in the playoffs for the rest of the season, Calvin's got a good chance to win it all..
Looking forward for abueva to win the mvp-rookie award. I think he deserves it the way he playing right now.
wawa pba. they got bumped off......
wawa din Ginebra... :(
pinilit kasi si caguioa at helterbrand kahit pangit laro.
Alaska loses a heartbreaker to TNT in game one, 65-66.. big shot by Ryan Reyes.. Trillo did a good job making adjustments in the 2nd half but Black outcoached him in those last few plays.. not knowing who had possession, Trillo shouldn't have drawn out a play on offense during that lull.. he should have set up a defensive play and just called a time out if the ball went to them..
one good thing for Alaska, though, is that they can really match-up with TNT.. if they can keep it close the entire game, they have a chance of stealing a game or two from TNT.. sub-par games from Baguio, Abueva and Casio but they almost won it..
@ bro louie, I never liked JJ's style of playing.. I rarely watch pba but evrytime i see gsm and jj playing as PG, parang prone sa errors and biglang tumitira.. Just my 2cents :)
Alaska's really going toe to toe with TNT.. they tie the series after a 100-88 win earlier.. Abueva, Casio and Baguio all showed up tonight.. it was an excellent coaching job by Luigi Trillo.. making Calvin come off the bench was a wise decision.. di agad na-foul trouble si Calvin at di nawala yung focus ng maaga.. again, a lot of cheap shots against Abueva earlier.. that slap on the face by Aban should have been a flagrant 2.. I hope Salud upgrades that foul..
the Abueva playing for Alaska is totally different from the one who played in the NCAA.. he's more patient, in control and smart.. andiyan pa yung angas, yung energy, yung yabang but it's all tempered.. and the most important thing, he plays within the system..
and Casio is turning out to be one of the smartest and most clutch point guards in the league.. one hell of a shooter and a very composed playmaker.. laban lang ng laban yung bata.. for me, he's the one guy in the league you should never leave open behind a 3pt line..
my play of the game was the sundot sa pwet by Jazul on Alapag.. napikon si Alapag at tinulak si Jazul.. offensive foul tuloy.. ;D
both semis now tied at 1-1.. that RoS-San Mig game 3 on Christmas is going to be highly physical.. galit si Guiao dahil na-eject so expect a bloody Christmas on game 3.. ;D
Abueva should be Rookie-MVP for bringing excitement to the PBA anew.
Iba tlga ang impact nya when playing on the court. Khit ilan pang knock down ang nararanasan nya in his rookie season.
I'd be surprised if Salud suspends Baguio. First, Salud rarely suspends anyone. Second, Baguio has no reputation as a dirty player. Third, it's the semis and Baguio is Alaska's main man. Salud wouldn't dare put Alaska at a disadvantage given Uytengsu's penchant for criticizing his actions, or lack thereof.
What happened last night was the referees' fault. They allowed too much physical play from both teams in the first 2 games. Alaska was bound to get physical after all the hits they've been taking this conference. I'm actually surprised at those calls against Calvin. Those didn't even come close to the ones he got from Aban or Rob Reyes.
Alaska has to go back to what was working for them. They have to deny Alapag the ball sa simula pa lang. Hontiveros played excellent denial defense on him in the 1st 2 games. If Jimmy gets his groove assist-wise, mahihirapan Alaska. Williams had great game last night because Jimmy was able to find him.
The flagrant foul 1 Castro got from Abueva was basically an errant flailing hand that caught him in the neck, no malicious intentions. The flagrant foul 2 Castro got from Baguio is a different case. Though Baguio has no reputation as a dirty player, the hack to the face was intentional. The elbow to the jaw, on the other hand, could be argued as incidental and due to their speed and movement. If Baguio is suspended, Alaska would really be at a disadvantage.
Abueva's intensity has its pros and cons. His intensity energizes his teammates but it can rub the referees the wrong way. If he is not careful, he may find himself in a position wherein the referees second guess his intentions much like the way Jaworski was called for a tripping foul for simply putting his foot forward on a driving player.
It wasn't a flagrant foul. Just a technical for 2nd motion. He was ejected because he already had a previous flagrant 1 for tripping Harvey Carey.
Anyway, Baguio has not been suspended. He was just fined P30,000. Here's the statement by the commissioner's office:
"After carefully reviewing the FFP2 called on Cyrus Baguio and weighing his explanation of the circumstances leading to the flagrant foul, this office is upholding the flagrant foul called on him and is fining him the amt. of P30,000.00. No suspension is being meted out in this particular case after taking into consideration Baguio's explanation that he was indeed going to give Jason Castro a hard foul but realized at the last instant that he no longer had the chance to play for the ball. He tried to check himself but it was already too late to avoid the resulting contact. A close look at the replay confirmed Baguio's narration. There was no blatant follow through of Baguio's arm as it hit Castro's face. It was decidedly sheer momentum on his part that largely caused the hard contact on Castro. Nonetheless, this office stands by the FFP2 call for being unnecessary and excessive and fines Baguio."
Ginebra finally replaces Tanquincen. I'm not so sure I like the replacement, though. I've never been impressed with Alfrancis Chua.
http://www.spin.ph/sports/basketball/news/beginning-2013-with-a-bang-ginebra-replaces-tanquingcen-with-chua
Sayang, but this is going to be a nice series.. physical d team vs. High scoring disciplined o.. i like ros.. but i also like watching dilinger, i still think he is one of the most talented player right now.. lipat na lng sya.. :)
TNT finally dispatches Alaska after 6 hard-fought games. They were just deeper than Alaska but Alaska had the better coach in this series. The TNT players bailed Norman Black out in this series, particularly Ryan Reyes, Alapag and Castro. He was totally out-coached by Trillo the whole time.
Alaska has to feel good about this. They were one good stop away from a game 7 with the defending champs.
Abueva's probably going to get the BPC award. And he deserves it. He is going to be the PBA's future. This early, he's made Alaska a team to watch. No other rookie has had this much impact on the league since the entry of the Fil-Foreigners led by Danny Seigle.
is he still gonna make it to the elusive rookie mvp title? hopefully but im quite skeptical.
his presence in the PBA was very much felt that lots of people came back to watching the games
i would think castro or chan could possibly win BPC
I'm 100% sure Chan wouldn't win it. Why? Hindi siya kasali sa pinagpipilian. Only the Top 5 in statistical points after the semis are included in the ballot.pang 7 pala si chan sa unofficial. leader pa rin sa santos. then i guess it would be castro, if alaska won the series abueva might win the award
A bit of good news for Philippine basketball. The hosting rights for the FIBA Championships this year has been awarded to the Philippines. This is going to be a qualifier for the World Championships next year in Spain. 3 slots are available. It was supposedly going to happen in Lebanon but it's currently unstable there. It will be on August 1-13.
Now, it's time to form the best team. Petron should really release guys like Fajardo, Arwind, Lassiter, Lutz and even Cabagnot.

Will we be allowed to field in two teams kasi tayo ang host?
when was a sweep in the pba last happened?
its all for business now.
Hindi ko maalala kung saka sakaling na nagkaron ng iisang team na all Filipino champion ng three straight years.
Suggestion lang for a Philippine Line Up...
1. Junmar Fajardo
2. Marc Pingris
3. Jeff Chan
4. Peter Jun Simon
5. LA Tenerio
6. Arwind Santos
7. Marc Caguiao
8. Gary David
9. Gabe Norwood
10. Ranidel De Ocampo
11. JV Casio
12. Jared Dillinger
13. Paul Lee
14. Jimmy Alapag
15. Calvin Abueva
Reserve:
1. Sonny Thoss
2. James Yap
3. Alex Cabagnot
Hopefully lahat nga sana ng PBA Teams mag give way for this very good opportunity especially the SMB Teams.
RoS cant handle Tnt's firepower!Way to go tropa! ;)main problem of ros is that tnt can run with them and more often tnt outruns them. unlike smc na hindi makasabay sa knila. yeng needs to adjust his gameplan otherwise its a possible sweep.
TnT proving too much for ROS this Finals series ....... just too much firepower from all positions.
ROS finally showed their true identity in Game 3, but still came up short.
=======================================================================
One more good thing that will likely happen (re: RP awarded FIBA Championships hosting duties) ....... it will definitely bring great pressure for SMC to finally release their players to GILAS. ;D
I wonder why Yeng Guiao is quiet? Arrogance and confidence snuffed out?
I'd take Guiao's "arrogance" over Chot Reyes' tendency to throw his players under the bus, when things don't go his way.
Yeng Guiao was asked if he can make history and take the title with 4 straight wins.
His answer? "History? Di nga kami maka-isa, history pa?" LMAO. Sounds like giving up on TnT. :D
Castro won the BPC. No surprise there. Abueva was a far 3rd overall, behind Ranidel. What surprised me was that he was a far 3rd in media votes as well, 482 for Castro and just 130 for Abueva.

Wahapend? Na-massacre ang ROS.
PBA Online: "Abueva playing as a 'hugot' in Bulacan without Aces' consent."
Gano kaya ka-totoo ito? I don't know about players contracts but you just can't do this without your team knowing it. :D

I doubt this. He'd be playing for a pittance compared to what he's earning and what he could lose.
this league in Sta Maria is really something. Not sure though why Abueva was singled out, Its a traidion in this town, I recalled when I was still playing, Duremdes, Agustin, Aquino among others play here also, and this is when they were already PBA superstars.

this happens. miller did it a number of times when he was still with alaska. madalas sya sa olongapo. and he was fined everytime. however, he did not receive any fee for playing. when a friend of mine asked him why he kept on doing that even if he was always being fined, his reply was "ok lang yun. magkano lang yung fine. di mapapantayan nun yung kasiyahan ng mga fans, lalo na ung mga batana nakakalaro ko."

If there's any truth to that. :D
It's not true. Here's the current trade proposal that's being reviewed by the commissioner.
Petron will get Tubid from Barako in exchange for Mallari and Duncil.
Barako will then trade Mallari, Najorda, Lester Alvarez and a 2014 1st round pick to San Mig Coffee for Jonas Villianueva, JC Intal and Aldrech Ramos.
Barako will trade Aldrech Ramos to Alaska for Baracael.
Barako will then ship Baracael to Ginebra for Maliksi.
In summary:
Petron - will get Tubid, lose Mallari and Duncil
San Mig Coffee - will get Mallari, Alvarez, Najorda, 2014 1st rd pick, lose Villanueva, Intal, Ramos
Alaska - will get Ramos, lose Baracael
Ginebra - will get Baracael, will lose Maliksi
Barako - will get J. Villanueva, Intal, Maliksi, Duncil, lose Tubid, Najorda, Alvarez, 2014 1st rd pick
For me, Petron is the loser in this trade. They let go of Mallari too soon. Barako and San Mig are the clear winners if this gets approved. And the Ramos to Alaska is a good move. Baracael never really got the triangle.
He's playing for San Miguel in the ABL together with Menk..
Petron(or as SMB before) has done this before. They let go LA Tenorio and Larry Fonacier too soon. Petron simply can't wait for a rookie to develop nowadays.
Selino Cruz, Roger Yap, Urbiztondo, newly acquired Jonas
Lalo yata lumiit line-up nila.
Sol Mercado will now play along side Miller & David. Agawan sa bola to.. lol :D
Chance for Japeth to redeem himself. :)
GLOBAL PORT has gotten much deeper ....... but it'll be a challenge for Baculi to get chemistry, since Miller, Mercado and David are all ball-centric players.
All three guards don't play off-the-ball well ...... they need that ball for a good chunk of the 24-second shotclock, in order to get going.
If I were Romero, I'd trade Miller now ...... while he still has nice value.
I myself consider Chan too big a risk out there ...... he is indeed inconsistent, plus he doesn't do any thing else if his shots aren't falling.
I'd also leave out Gary David ....... same as Chan - when his shots fail him, he doesn't contribute in other aspects of the game.
Still can't see why Cyrus Baguio isn't being considered ........ except for the last game of semis series against TnT, he was the most efficient SG last conference (has always been efficient actually). Besides, Baguio was by far the best performing player during the last non-GILAS Natl Team (Yeng Guiao 2009).
I'd also consider Lutz and Lassiter (if not injured) ....... these guys are way familiar with international play, aside from their obvious talent.
==============================================================
Completely agree that Norwood and Dillinger have similar skillsets, aside from their similar inconsistencies ...... Norwood would probably get the final slot owing to his decent GILAS showing months ago.
Who were the players named by Coach CHOT for Gilas 2 17 man pool?
Chan & Ritualo are perhaps the closest ones - both are streaky, limited & inconsistent compared to the shooters from decades ago.
as far as streak shooters are concerned, you can add macapagal and salvacion to the list. but, like ritualo and chan, they are just that -- streak shooters.
james yap could could have been a better choice.
James Yap would have been a very bad choice. The guy's a volume shooter. He'll just disrupt the dribble-drive offense of Gilas.
That Alaska-RoS endgame has got to be one of the craziest endings we've seen in the PBA. With 24 secs left, Norwood taps the ball away from Casio. Casio has to scamper back to the backcourt then he finds Abueva for a 25ft. desperation 3 that swishes thru the net to tie the game at 81 with 10 secs left. RoS then sends the ball to their 7-2 import at the post after a timeout who gets blocked by Abueva from behind leading to a loose ball picked up by Alaska's import Dozier who gives it to Baguio for a buzzer-beating layup to win the game.
And AKTV decided not to air that game live. In favor of NCAA volleyball. >:(
The NCAA volleyball game was the first game of the championship. That was probably one of the reasons AKTV decided to air it live. They expected it to be an exciting game and it was exciting enough. How were they to know that Alaska-RoS endgame would be one of the craziest endings we've seen in the PBA? And AKTV usually air only the 2nd game live for their Saturday coverage.
They aired the NCAA Volleyball finals not because it was a championship game but because ABS was airing the DLSU-Ateneo Volleyball game at the same time. They were matching up. Over 19,000 people went to watch the DLSU-Ateneo game at the MOA arena. The NCAA game was already being killed in gate attendance, they got buried in the ratings pa. They would have had a better shot at the ratings game had they shown a PBA game no matter how it turned out.
Eto bro according pba.ph
LA Tenorio, Jayson Castro, Jimmy Alapag, Larry Fonacier, Ryan Reyes and Gary David as guards, Gabe Norwood, Jeff Chan and Jared Dillinger as wingmen, Ranidel de Ocampo, Marc Pingris and Japeth Aguilar as power forwards and Kelly Williams, June Mar Fajardo, Sonny Thoss and Greg Slaughter, Marcus Douthit as centers.
a bit OT (for now ::) )...was Mbenga any good when he was with the lakers? or the nba in general?
What would spur Mbenga to suddenly negotiate with BGK (SMCorp) when he has already rejected a recent formal max contract offer ??
On a related note ...... if ever Mbenga makes it to BGK (though latest updates reveal otherwise), it's one more solid proof of ILLEGAL/UNETHICAL practices by SMCorp.
havent watched the games for quite sometime, sino pinakamagaling na import?
Ginebra loses again...
Great game for Global Port...
The import is really a shot blocking demon!!!
Ginebra needs more local support.
Kerby, LA, Ellis, Helterbrand are all non factor.
New coach... Same old team...
Sol Mercardo was really controlling and orchestrating very well for Global Port, making his team mates look good with all those assists...
anung ending sis? may taya ako e haha
1st win of Ginebra with an exclamation point. Sana tuloy-tuloy na.
another come-from-behind win by Meralco! Go Bolts!
Blakman was so upset with the refs that he got more irritated with his teamates and coach pacifying him.
I don't really see any reason for him to be upset at the refs. Not just on that play he was complaining about but for the entire game. Petron fans are claiming that Balkman was frustrated because he wasn't getting any calls. But if you watch that game again, you'll notice that 90% of the time he was on the court, he was just standing out on the perimeter. He'll set a pick then just stand there. He doesn't roll. He backs all the way out to the 3pt line. When he gets the ball, he just stands on the perimeter holding it and waits for his teammates to come get it. He doesn't even go for offensive boards. How can he get the referees to call fouls when he's not doing anything?
That outburst was really just out of the blue. He was disengaged the whole game then he just snapped. Now the Games and Amusements Board has said that if the PBA won't take any action, they're thinking of either suspending or revoking Balkman's license to play here.
Salud has BANNED Balkman from playing in the PBA, for life.. also fined P250K.. finally, Salud does the right thing..
Yes, that's the right thing to do.
too harsh for me. parang mas grabe pa nga yung ginawa ni arboleda assaulting a fan eh.
Well, a lesson for the imports playing in the PBA not to be too arrogant even if they are formerly NBA players.
Then Arboleda should also be banned from the PBA. He punched and kicked an obviously much smaller, defenseless fan also on national tv, but the guy is still playing, right? Balkman deserved to be sanctioned, everybody knows that..... but the PBA must show consistency on their decisions.
Thats Chito Salud for you.....
Damage control...

Very good game for Ginebra beating mighty TnT...
M.C. playing like an import with 28pts.
Alapag is really a streak shooter, cant leave him open...
Good overall game for both teams...
TnT's outside shots were not going in. Alapag was the only one making outside shots. Missed free throws by Ginebra made it a closer game.
^ Grabe ung leaping ability nung ellis.. :)
^ Grabe ung leaping ability nung ellis.. :)
matangkad si ellis, 6-5, pero malakas yung leaping ability niya from a standing position. imho si paul alvarez, 6-0, ang pinakagrabe pa rin pagdating sa leaping ability.
i believe Joey Mente has the highest vetical leap all time
i was about to say this. mente is below 6ft, iirc.
******
two in a row for the gin kings. ganda ng chemistry nina LA at Macklin. and Caguioa is playing exceptionally well.
Boybits Victoria and Jimmy Alapag could dunk the ball as well... Alapag is around 5'8"
But they're not vertical leapers I think...
i believe Joey Mente has the highest vetical leap all time
PG & SG's are rarely in a scenario for vertical dunks.
But for the few that does this from time to time ..... I can recall, Paul Alvarez and Jojo Lastimosa (mostly done during Mama's Love stint).
I'm sure that a few other guards can do this as well, like Joey Mente.
But perhaps the ex-pro who IMO had the highest vertical leap ever - Mike Garcia from the old Laguna Lakers team of the MBA ..... he never was a good overall player, but the hops Garcia showed was incredible.
========================================================================
I've seen a few other great vertical leapers from the old amateur leagues (PABL, PBL, etc) ....... not surprisingly, most of these players had backgrounds in collegiate volleyball.
Joey Mente may have had the all-time highest vertical leap but Paul Alvarez was not called Mr. Excitement for nothing. His first, second and third leaps were almost the same, even after his prime, differing only by a few inches. Ellis seems to have the same capability. kangkarot!
It was definitely exciting to watch Ginebra play the way they did against TnT. I just hope it continues.
I thought we were just talking about vertical leap that's why I mentioned Joey Mente, in fact as sir newave said, Michael Garcia perhaps has the highest ever
speaking of leaping abilities, dont forget the younger lago (was it elmer) who played for ginebra!! he is a dunker too.
Yup that's Elmer. Nice game BGK .... Great game mc47
I think Caguioa's overworked.. he's had to do everything for Ginebra this conference.. good thing for them, their next 3 games won't be against the top teams..
Snapshots actually show SMC's Simon entering the lane during Abueva's FT attempt ...... Simon even nudged Abueva just before the attempt.
Haven't seen that kind of close contact with a player attempting a FT before.
Funny that Tim Cone had almost always been on the losing end during these types of close moments, when he was still with ALASKA. ;)
...... Disconcerting the shooter should have been the applicable rule at hindi yung sabay na pagpasok.
To make matters worse for Alaska, Trillo was fined 40K for his comments at pag-confront niya sa officials after the game. I just don't get why the officiating in the PBA just keeps getting worse.
The ref who made the call actually didn't blow the whistle immediately. Abueva had to stop and look at the ref before he blew his whistle. ;D
And refs can confer with each other. I've seen that happen so many times. One ref's call is overturned depending on which happened first or which is the greater violation.
One more thing that really showed how badly that game was officiated in the last few seconds was on that last play after the jump ball. Once Abueva crossed the half court line, Jazul signaled for a timeout right in front of the same referee who didn't make the call on Simon earlier. Even Baguio did the same thing. And the referee just pointed towards the direction of the Alaska bench. Alaska still had a 30-sec timeout then. PBA rules allow an offensive player on the court, even the one not holding the ball, to call a timeout. Abueva wasn't doing anything yet when the referee saw Jazul calling timeout. He should have called that. After the shot was missed, I saw Jazul confront the referee on that non-call. For me, that was what decided the game, not that lane violation call.
I'm not sure but I believe they've changed that rule. Only the one holding the ball can call a timeout. Or am I wrong?
RIP Bobby Parks.
Definitely one of the best imports to ever play in the PBA ...... was a class-act both on and off the court.

what happened to him sir? was he sick?
So one team finally managed to sign former Laker DJ Mbenga. And to my surprise, it's Barako Bull, the team that almost disbanded a few years ago due to financial troubles. Makes you wonder if the team is really owned by George Chua and the Linas. :D
reports say that Alaska was also supposed to enlist the services of Mbenga but did not push through with it because he was asking for a salary that was above the salary cap for imports. i wonder if he had the same asking price for Barako....
*****
great games today. Ginebra on a five-game winning streak, and are now at third place. far from the cellar where they used to be a few weeks back.
and waht a come from behind win by San Mig Coffee....
Cardiac ball game a while ago between Ginebra and Meralco.
Ginebra winning by just a single point... whewww!!! ^-^
Back to back triples by Buenafe and Sunday were huge in the closing seconds...
Nice game by Baracael especially in the 4th keeping Ginebra in the lead...
Stepping up in the absence of Caguiao...
While watching the game, I couldn't help but say to myself what a stupid rule the "review of each out-of-bounds play before a call is made" is. On two instances, Meralco was able to map out what they had to do even without any time-outs left, just because of the stupid rule. Ginebra was lucky Dawson's shot did not go in.
On the two instances wherein the referees reviewed the video, it was obvious who should get the ball. There was no question from the teams as to who touched the ball last. It would be much better if they just review instances where it is not really clear who touched the ball last.
actually any "review", hassle for the players and the game itself. dapat when the ref calls it, yun na yun.

Im not a hater of Abueva buttheres something in him that's irritating.
i share the same sentiment. he always flashes that "ang galing ko, noh?" look whenever he makes a shot. but he is really good, though.also a good trash talker. He will try to get in your skin. for a rookie thats something :D
also a good trash talker. He will try to get in your skin. for a rookie thats something :D
Tama na ang pagpapasikat. His antics will hurt his team rather than help it in the long run.
Ginebra vs. TNT tonight, any insights on this game? We're planning to watch live sa MOA arena, and wala ko makita na preview, walang kwenta pba website.. First time to watch again, last was during meneses' days.. Tia..
Kahit sinong makakalaban ng Gin Kings mahihirapan sila. Lahat mabibigat...
Pero I think they will give a good fight.
question ---
is josh urbiztondo pure pinoy?
Fil-Am
^^ actually, reports say that he is a younger version of rudy hatfield, with an outside touch
Sayang nga si Keith Jensen...deadshot sa amateur to sayang. :(
Parang Vince Hizon sana siya kapag nahinog ^-^
Petron wasn't able to fully recover after that Balkman incident.
If Balkman was there i think Petron has a chance in making into the semis.
Petron once again loses a playoff series to TNT.
That has got to be the most painful miss in Jeff Chan's career. He was all alone for that putback!
on to the semis against talk and text....
and this is were the dream would end???
and this is were the dream would end???
i beg to disagree...
Imagine an ALASKA-BGK Finals series ...... Their last elims match drew 15k+ paying fans, a Finals series would be absolute blockbuster.
pardon my ignorance, Alaska is in the finals already?
you can always beg sir but it will not change the outcome, kung talunin ng BGK ang Talk and Text sa series, 500 pesos off yung kukunin mo sa akin, pag tinalo ng TNT nag BGK, you owe me a crispy pata....
It's the Ginebra locals who need to show up every game. So far, it's now you see me, now you don't for them.
The locals of TNT have found their groove. Castro's moving better. Ranidel is shooting better. Ryan Reyes has become more aggressive on offense. Peek is back. Rabeh has slowly gotten his confidence back. They're looking more dangerous by the day. And their import isn't even a factor yet.
Ginebra has to make sure that everyone contributes. They need more from their vets Jayjay, Kerby and Hatfield. Di kaya ni Tenorio mag-isa. Caguioa could come back but they can't expect him to put up the same numbers he did right away. He'll be rusty. Kung aasa lang sila kay Macklin, they'll be swept by TNT.
The semis is just a best-of-5 so di pwedeng mag-relax ng kahit isang game.
hehe...ayos! :P
this will be a good series. norman black has found an effective antidote to Macklin. i'm sure Ginebra will find an antidote of their own to set macklin free again.
=========================================================
ALASKA-SMC ....... this will be a great series. However, without a shadow of a doubt, expect some "favorable" calls for SMC from the refs, during crucial moments..... hope I'm wrong though.
I can't ever recall a high-profile matchup wherein SMC / BMEG didn't get the homecourt treatment from the refs ........ there's a long-standing joke among the PBA Filam community, that the reason that J.Yap's team always gets the refs calls, is due to Kris Aquino. ;D
And it used to be Alvin Patrimonio's Purefoods team which got the favorable calls from the referee. ;) >:D :P
one game lang pala ngayon, bukas pa pala ung isa.
it was a great game by ginebra. after getting a 2-0 lead, TnT trailed all the way. great adjustment by the gins. however, they still are the underdogs in this series. man-to-man, TnT is still the stronger team. i'm sure TnT will make some major adjustments for the crucial game 2, which promises to be a tough one.
baracael started the barrage of points. it picked up from there. this is the first significant game of urbiztondo since he transferred to ginebra. still not impressed with him, though. i think he only had one shot inside the three point arc. the rest were from the three point area.
It was a great defensive game from both teams. No one giving an inch. There was just that one really bad call that ruined the game for me. That foul called against Casio on Yap's 3pt shot was a bad call. Yap kicked his leg back that's why it made contact with Casio. Lumayo na nga si Casio, inabot pa.
Alaska needs significant contributions from their locals. Hindi pwedeng panaka-naka lang. Someone has to play big in Game 2 to beat San Mig and the refs. Their outside shots have to fall. And I think it's about time Baguio shows up. I don't know if the back is still bothering him but he hasn't been himself for quite a while now. He seems lost.
1-1 na Ginebra-TNT. Locals na naman bida for TNT. Castro, Alapag and De Ocampo were big tonight. De Ocampo was clutch despite being in "foul trouble" all game long.
You rarely hear them talk about what a team is doing wrong or what they should do to correct it. Ang boring pakinggan kaya I mute my TV when I'm watching the PBA these days. I wish they'd let Jolas cover the games again. With Jason Webb taking a leave due to the campaign period, wala ng matinong analyst sa coverage. Or they could bring back Andy Jao now that he works for MVP. He may mispronounce players' names but at least he knows how to cover a game.
agree. i really hate it when Henson is the commentator. he knows everything and he is always right. at napaka-OA mag-commentary. he, and Chino, (otherwise known as the ChiQuito duo) were the reason why i do not watch the local coverage of the NBA Finals (when they were the commentators). pareho silang sobrang OA.
Sayang nga si Jason Webb and his partner (I forgot his name), medyo comedy pero may laman.. like JVG in NBA..
Ibang klase pala talaga kayabangan nitong si Abueva...
I'm not an Abueva hater nor a San Mig fan pero yung sinabi nya kay James Yap na "mag-chess na lang kung ayaw masaktan" saka "mas pipikunin pa nya si Yap sa next game" is just plain skwater and larong kanto mentally... Tsk tsk tsk... :-\
Magaling cya kung sa magaling but he has to learn how to respect his co-players and act like a pro ballplayer...

Well the fact na rookie pa lang cya he must learn how to respect his co-players...
Over physicality and trash talk will not do him any good...
i hate Abueva, in fact sa mga previuos post ko Im saying he will not shine sa PBA, I ate my words obviuosly.
But that overphysicality and thrashtalk he is doing now? a lot of players did that to him, worst in fact than what he is doing with Yap now but he has never complained, why is Yap complaining now, bawal ang iyakin sa basketball.
Hindi ko kinampihan si Yap. Like what I said hindi ako fan nung dalawa...
What I'm trying to point out is yung attitude ni Abueva...
Kung mapapansin nyo madami nang haters yang si Abueva because of his attitude.
May limitasyon lahat...
I dont care kung umiyak or maglupasay pa yan si James Yap
Marami talaga asar kay abueva, nung ncaa asar ako dun pag talo letran dahil sa kanya, but sobrang sipag ng bata, you'll appreciate his game when you watch him..
Calvin Abueva plays rough defense, no different (or to a lesser degree) from many other players e.g. Pingris, Ibanes, Arana, R,Reyes, etc.
As for the flopping and perceived dirty play, I've seen much, much worse from Tubid - who is probably the dirtiest one in the current generation, even when he first came in the league.
As for the other antics e.g. smiling, gestures, tongue wagging, etc ...... many others do this as well.
IMO the reason why many opposing players get irritated by Abueva is because he is legit ...... he is very and uniquely talented.
He doesn't back down despite being a rookie - which is the right attitude all rookies should have.
James Yap & Pingris should cool it ....... Yap has long been the most protected player in the league - the refs calls mostly goes his way and he's crying over someone who plays no different from any of his usual guards e.g. Ibanes, Arana, Tubid, etc.
so....TnT replaced their import....
With this moves of tnt, can we expect a high scoring game tom?
Not likely ...... though I'd be a happy viewer if both team goes off on offense.thanks bro..
RoS is probably the only team in the PBA right now, which can consistently win with high-scoring games.
Though very capable, TnT doesn't prefer high-scoring games ...... moreso with Norman Black replacing Chot Reyes as coach.
BGK itself has shown nice improvement on the defensive end this conference.
Ilang coaches kaya ang naiingit sa alaska because of abueva.. Although it was a team effort, he's the reason kung bakit nakahabol.. That offensive rebound against 3 smc including pingris and their import was impressive.. :)..
Now that was some game!
Down 16, Alaska comes from behind to win in OT, 89-82. Abueva backing up his statements. Hinigitan pa niya yung ginawa niya nung previous games. Ngayon, dinagdagan niya ng offense. He spearheaded that rally in the 3rd after being down 16. Tapos team work na ng Alaska the rest of the way. Casio was big in the 4th and Jazul in OT. And Baguio finally showed up especially with that big block on Crybaby Yap that led to Abueva's exclamation dunk.
This win was really a team win. When Jazul missed that point blank game winner, everyone on Alaska supported the guy. Nobody talked about the missed shot. Instead, they just buckled down to work. When Abueva was celebrating already after the dunk, even rarely-used Eddie Laure told Calvin to focus. They know they're not done yet.
Yap was once again a non-factor.
Abueva is really the most hated player in the league now. And it's understandable. He gives his share of cheap shots but he knows how to take them as well. He hit Barroca and tripped Bowles but I think yung tama niya mas marami. I think half the game, he was on the floor. He's really one player you'd love to be on your team but you'd hate when he's not.
The Beast indeed! Much respect to the guy. :D
on a side note, you must have been proud of your fellow Letran alum for redeeming himself in overtime. hehe
RJ Jazul is a neighbor of mine or should I say will be( finishing touches na lang yung bahay nya sa subd namin), I had the chance to talk to him and he is very humble and approacheable, I hope he continue to enjoy the playing time given to him and he continue to make the most out of it.
Bro, you might have missed it ....... Jazul is the featured subject in that Masters facial wash series - the interview shows his new house and shows a bit of your village. Nice.
==============================================================
I fully expect the refs to come back more determined to help SMC in Game 4 ....... it's clear as day, that the refs will do what they can to help SMC during crucial moments - which has been the agenda for decades now, moreso with Yap's arrival.
I recall a funny loose ball sequence last night - one of the refs clearly asks the other ref (who had the better angle) on who will get ball possession.
The other ref points to the ALASKA side ...... the main ref then promptly calls for a jump ball. WTF?
Only howls of protests forces the main ref to make the right call for ALASKA.
Dont get me started on the "foul" on Casio ....... somewhere Chot Reyes and his TnT crew are shaking their heads. ;)

on a side note, you must have been proud of your fellow Letran alum for redeeming himself in overtime. hehe
James Yap was a non factor. Why? Dyeta sya ni the Beast o injured lang talaga?
Bad coaching, mostly. Pinipilit ni Tim Cone. SanMig would have fared better if Simon logged those minutes Yap did. Yap only knows how to shoot. He's not a facilitator and he's a bad defender. Ang bilis pa mawalan ng focus. If he can't score, wala siyang naitutulong sa team niya. Tim Cone can't seem to see that.
Trillo is really outcoaching Tim Cone so far in this series. If not for those bad calls in Game 1, this series would have been a sweep. Good thing for Tim Cone though, they still have the refs on their side. If Tim cone does his job, the refs will do the rest for him.. ;D
James Yap was a non factor. Why? Dyeta sya ni the Beast o injured lang talaga?paramihan sila ng mintis ni Simon, both are overrated.. I liked their PG though..
paramihan sila ng mintis ni Simon, both are overrated.. I liked their PG though..
Thank bro. I rarely watch the PBA but I am tuning in more right now lalo na pag Alaska. I seem to agree that Yap is a "good" player but definitely not a legend in the making. I think he's a bit overrated, isn't he?
Yeah, he's a bit overrated. He can score, sure. But he needs to put up a ton of shots to get to his average.
The thing I hate about Yap is that he relies too much on his superstar status. He doesn't seem to work hard enough to improve his game. SanMig has a lot of scorers in their team but Yap still has a shoot first mentality. His passing never improved. If you watch their games, you'll notice that Tim Cone designs more isolation plays for Simon than Yap. Yap only sees the basket kasi when he has the ball. He's like Kobe in terms of shooting. But Kobe can switch to facilitator mode and still have the same impact. Jame Yap can't do that.

Sayang, I've seen him play and I think he can work on his passing ability much like the Aerial Voyager, Vergel Meneses who has very good passing ability.
Spot on ..... Yap is nothing more than a volume shooter; needs to take a ton of shots to get his points.
I've long considered Simon as much better than Yap.
The superstar-entitlement can be blamed on Yap himself and many others ....... since he was in HS, Yap was already being courted by many NCR collegiate squads (Bong Tan won the bidding).
Add the fact that Yap was coached by the very inept Ryan Gregorio - IMO the 2nd worst coach ever in the history of the PBA ......... Gregorio is a speech-maker who has the thinnest playbook in all of pro basketball; that is, GIVE THE BALL TO THE SCORER, EVERYBODY ELSE PLAY SAFETY and/or CRASH THE BOARD.
Meneses was indeed a great passer ...... which was mostly an offshoot of his very underrated back-to-the-basket game.
People remember Meneses for his high-flying forays to the basket ...... his post game is hardly remembered, but it was very effective ...... when he had his back to the basket, it usually leads to his patented "banda" shot or an assist to a streaking teammate.
I've always believed that passing is a natural skill ....... many guys have always had it, even during their early years ...... rare are those who 'learn' to pass late in their careers.
For current SG's, it's either you have the passing/setup skills (e.g. Baguio, R.Reyes, Arana, etc.) or you dont (e.g. Yap, David, Caguioa, etc.).
For me one of the best passers is not a guard but a center = Ramon "El Presidente" Fernandez. Once called a point center because he can dribble and bring down the ball. He is the 2nd in all time assists, next to Jawo. 3rd is Dindo Pumaren. During his days in Tanduay, Fernandez was making 15, 20 assists per game. He was such a joy to watch.
hindi na pumapasa - kasi at the moment he doesnt trust his team members yet
no one was able to slash to the paint.....
POOR defense specially to abueva...did not even challenge those 3's
BOWLES was always outside the paint where in he can dominate inside...
too bad.....
dozier!!!!

want them to give mallari more minutes than barroca..ganda ng gf nya TISAY :o

Barroca did really well, in my opinion. His defense on Casio was great the entire series. Hirap makapag-orchestrate si Casio. Mallari is too offensive minded. Walang depensa. Kahapon, iniiwan lang siya ni Casio.
Barroca was the most consistent local for SanMig in that series.
Effin' refs spoiling games once again ........ EXTREMELY CLEAR flagrant foul on Macklin, for hitting Aban on the neck - yet was only called for a regular foul ?!wala daw smc sa finals eh nyahaha
Review the tapes ...... the refs might have glanced at Comm. Cheato Salud before making the decision. ;)
The look on Norman Black's face was priceless.
Some very influential people can't accept the fact that not even one of 3-ultra-loaded, salary-cap exceeding, player-hoarding teams can reach even the PBA Finals this season ..... wink-wink na lang agad sa mga refs. ;)ginagawa ata akong tanga ng ref nor ng pba..hindi nan ako bitter but i played bball and seeing the series like this...flagrant foul was not called? Hahaha...kakatawa ..for sure that call will be questioned
I'm rooting for a BGK-ALASKA Finals, but the refs should have called a flagrant-foul on Macklin and threw him out the game (2nd tech).

Congrats ginebra and ref and mr. Tsk tsk tsk...spoiled calls
Kasi pag pumasok ang ginebra mas madami manonood. hehelangya asar talo pa ako dito sa bahay... Daming nanood dami kita haha..all i was asking was a fair call..
wahaha wala ka pala kay esmi.. >:D >:D

If it was Yeng Guiao on the receiving end of the refs blatant calls tonight, he would have shouted his classic line when facing SMCorp teams and their army of refs ........ "MGA SINDIKATO !!!"more money more chances of winning
;D
nakakawalang interest ngang manood dahil sa unfair calls ...ngayon nalang ulit ako nanood dahil before kawalang gana dahil sa smc blah blah blah
I'm a Ginebra fan but I agree that it should be a flagrant foul on Macklin taking down Aban.
But lets not take away the credit to Ginebra especially sa locals. They really played well tonight. Masyado lang nag rely ang TnT sa import nila, forcing his shots in the 4th. Dapat ginamit din nilang option si Castro... Dami ding maling calls when TnT's got the ball like yung foul kay Helterbrand against the 3-point shooting Fonacier nung patapos na ang 4th Q.
^-^

Ginebra rocks! Macklin did not intentionally bring down abad, it was a battle of position. Abad was pushing macklin with his forearm and macklin simply put aban out of the way. Just so happened the mack's hands were on aban's face but ref's called it fairly as it was not intentional. Did you all know the mack was hit numerous times by ranidel and ryan reyes in game 4? Was not seen on camera but mack was hit at the groin and was punch at the stomach twice and yet he did not retaliate then. Game 5 was a blast, almost like championships!

Looks worse than it actually is. Hands on face does not mean flagrant foul. What if the hands were on aban's shoulders, I bet fans of tnt would not have reacted the way they did. It was unintentional and was a battle of position. Refs did not call flagrant also due to mack's nature of not being a dirty player. I guess even now that refs did not call flagrant on ryan reyes when he punched mack on the stomach twice in game 4.
Hindi sis... that could still change the complexion of the game...definitely sis..tenorio played well and helterbrand... Although there confidence might not be the same if mcklin was thrown out...baka lang naiba ung game..congrats sa ginebra kahit ireplay naten they won...
Ginebra fought hard sa series na yan...
Fanboi ako ng Ginebra sis since grade school nung panahon pa nila Jawo, Loyzaga, Ampalayo, Joe Ward, Gonzalgo, Cuenco, etc... Hehehe ;D
Sadly i lost a chance at the best tasting crispy pata from norzagaray BGK proved me wrong,
Congratulations BGK at sa mga fans nila
Bro, is this the same crispy pata which was featured on TV (GMA7?) some years back ?
If it's the same one, a friend of mine raves about it all the time ...... he makes the trip all the way from Sto. Tomas, Batangas just to buy a couple of patas. ;)
=========================================================================
On-topic, many great storylines surrounding the Finals series.
Trillo-Chua, who'll win their 1st 'chip, LA/Baracael vs. their old team, Hatfield facing off against a younger & meaner version of himself, Caguioa's possible comeback, the Beast's impending BPC win & potential coming-out party as a superstar, etc.
If the 1st Conference voting is any indication, I think Tenorio's going to win it. Abueva's going to get killed in media and player votes. But I have no problems with that. Tenorio deserves it as well.
What about best import - Macklin or Dozier???

Ginebra Na!
For those who can't watch at Araneta, the game will be live on TV5 and not on AKTV/IBC13.
Aaah. What time ba to?
it was a a combination of bad things for Ginebra. shots not falling in, whether from the outside and, worse, even from the inside....they took too many outside shots, even if they were not falling in. On the other hand, Alaska had a head start. They were making shots from everywhere and seems to have been doing everything right......the biggest part, however, was Alaska's defense. Ginebra took too many shots from the outside because they had not other option. they could hardly penetrate the lanes. It was a very great game by Alaska.
no, sir. (very lousy) live stream lang.i see....
Q4 2min left ...... BGK on a run of sorts, but ALASKA still up by 13.
The amount of bumps & knocks that Abueva takes is just mind-boggling ......and he just smiles and smirks quietly .....like I said, when this guy flops, there's at least considerable contact.
Very very good game by Alaska. Bilib ako sa coaching ability ni Trillo...
Buti nanalo kami sa Game 1 Championship game sa office. Atleast di gano masama loob, hehehe...
Brader Derick if you want to watch sa Sunday dapat bukas palang try mo na bumili sa Araneta or check ticketnet online, or tawag ka muna 9115555 kung may tickets pa... ;)

wala daw ticketnet online..nagonline ako meron nakalagay last time booth / outlet only
try ko tumawag thanks sis
and to think na some people brand him as ugaling iskwater or larong iskwater, seems like everyone wants to give cheap shots at abueva, yung kay tenorio simpleng banat, sana lang eh mag ingat din si abueva sayang ang galing nya kung matsambahan ng matinding injury.
perhaps he earned the "ugaling iskwater" tag due to his lack of finesse. sobra kasi ang angas nya eh. considering that he is just a rookie. kung baga eh bagong salta pa lang sya, akala mo beterano na kung umasta. but honestly, nakakaawa din sya kasi nga he gets hit a lot. but everytime he gets hit, ngingisi pa na parang nang-iinis. one more reason siguro kung bakit lalong nanggigigil ung mga tumitira sa kanya. "ah....wala lang pala ha...mamaya ulit!". somehow, i knew he'll get it from Mamaril.
Ok sis...
Pagmanonood ka pustahan tayo...
Hehehe ;D

done deal...
pusta naten svs sb12 nsd.....
Re abueva, I think huhupa din yan, siguro after this conference or season mawawala na rin un..
done deal...
pusta naten svs sb12 nsd.....
Sama ako sa pustahan niyo isang case na apple beer with pulutan na litson or your choice. Ano ba team niyong dalawa.. hahaha
alaska ako - gbk si louela and misis
sarap ng apple beer and lechon.......
1-0 na
okies saan ka ..tu
Sinu nanalo?
I agree, Caguioa should not be playing until he is fully recovered, liability lang sya both offensively and defensively, sya yata 'yun bantay ni Hontiveros noong naka three consecutive 3 point shots eh.
'Yung import ng Ginebra, nagtataka ako, halos sa harap na nya bumabagsak 'yung bola eh hindi pa makuha, yun pala injured din.
Pero maganda talaga depensa ng Alaska kaya hirap din maka score Ginebra. Sa Alaska naman parang ang dali nila maka score.
Siya naman talaga nakascore dun. They actually replayed that shot at si Espinas talaga nakashoot.sino ba yung kaaway nya dun? parang tumuro pa sya nun, pag si harfield gulpi sya dun..

The much better team won ...... Congrats to ALASKA.
What I expected to be an epic series, turned out to be epic beatdowns.
Just have to say this one more time ....... TV5's coverage of the PBA s*cks !!!!
Tinanong nun commentator doon sa kasama nyang commentator, what happened daw to Ginebra in the 4th qrt, kasi lumaki na lamang ng Alaska, eh at the end of 3rd qrt lamang pa daw ng 1 pt BGK, ang sabi ni Jason Webb ata yun "it's a combination of a lot of things daw, blah, blah, blah, pero actually isa lang ang sagot dun "Urbiztondo". Walang sure ball, tapos nagkalat pa, dami ginawa kapalpakan. Sana binabad na lang si Tenorio, hindi na kailangan magpahinga do or die na yun eh.
No match talaga 'yun laban, sa tingin ko kahit TNT ang pumasok instead of BKG, ganoon din mangyayare, they will suffer the same fate as Ginebra, puro injured din kasi players nila.
Congrats Alaska!
allain bawi ka na lang sa susunod, enjoy your new surround hehehe
On to the 3rd conference ....... I just heard that the PBA recently enacted a new rule, wherein mother teams no longer have exclusive rights to their imports.
This means that resident imports of some teams can sign-up with a rival team, even without a formal release from his mother team - exceptions with sister-teams though.
It's funny, but this new rule somewhat legalizes the "under-the-table" deals which certain teams (read: SMC) offer to known high-prized imports.
Take DJ Mbenga for example ....... he's a legit NBA player and he flat-out refused ALASKA's max contract offer, only to sign-up with BARAKO BULL (SMCorp lapdog) a few weeks later. WTF? ;D
ALASKA team owner W. Uytengsu asked the question a few years ago "What's the difference with our P350,000 (referring to then max allowable contract) with SMCorps P350,000?"
What reason would there be for a guy like Mbenga to refuse a max import contract, only to sign-up with another team instead ? ;)
There are reports that Loverboy Eala is targeting ROS import Arizona Reid as their 3rd conference import ...... Reid is a damm fine import and will likely be ROS' target import due to Cornley's recent legal woes.
The question is, which will Reid choose - ROS' money or SMC's money ....... should just be the same, right? ;)
Which means they will also try to lure Dozier into their fold the next time out. Funny that only SMC teams and their cohorts get the short end of the deal when getting imports. Macklin is good and so is the one of San Mig but obviuosly Dozier was the winner.
when will the PBA realize that this league is going nowhere with this kind of bad strategy of MSC teams.

^ Nice observation bro newwave, I remember when tanduay pulled out their team sa pba, I think it was their team manager who said pba is a pure smc league.. So now, its 6 from smc, and 2 from mvp.. ROS and Alaska na lng.. Maganda kung sila naglaban sa finals.. :)
There are reports that Loverboy Eala is targeting ROS import Arizona Reid as their 3rd conference import ......
No love for Nate Brumfeld from any team?
yan yung sinasabi ni sir newaveboy about urbiztondo a few pages back kaya nag tataka sya bakit kinuha pa ng BGK, sablay ang decision making at di marunong mag orchestrate ng play ang hilig pumukol sa 3 kahit di naman shooter.
Import Prospects Of Each Team
Alaska Aces: Wendell McKines (confirmed)
Barako Bull Energy Cola: Mike Singletary (confirmed)
Talk N Text Tropang Texters: Tony Mitchell (confirmed)
Sanmig Coffee Mixers: Marqus Blakely (confirmed)
Brgy. Ginebra San Miguel: Dior Lowhorn (confirmed)
Globalport Batang Pier: Jamelle Cornley (in negotiations)
Meralco Bolts: Mario West (in negotiations)
Petron Blaze Boosters: DJ Kennedy, Arizona Reid (contacting both imports, but if nothing happens they will bring Anthony Grundy back in the PBA)
Rain Or Shine Elasto Painters: Arizona Reid (in negotiations)
Air21 Express: Zach Graham, Chamberlain Oguchi (still in contact with both players)
About Urbiztondo: he was actually playing well before he got traded..he played well for B-Meg (starter) and for Barako too..
Problem kay Urbiztondo is he is a "system" type of PG...hindi sya marunong mshado magadapt...and playing lesser minutes for GSM compared to his former team made it worse...
So i kind of disagree that he is a "bad" player but i agree the trade for him was a head-scratcher
Rossel Ellis suddenly got old during his last stint in the PBA ....... during his heyday, Ellis was fun to watch.
The man had a nose for the ball and relied on his work ethic, since he was limited offensively.
Tim Cone has been quoted many times that Ellis is one of his favorite imports, along with Chambers, Davis, etc.
the problem with Urbiztondo is that the only thing he knows is to shoot but he does not do it well.
Hi Sir...checked the stats..he is not the most efficient player as he shoots below 40% from the field..but he averaged almost 11 pts and 5 assists per game..for a role player..i can say that is kinda playing well before the trade
If you compare him to Tenorio..LA is +2 in ppg..almost the same in assists and turnovers..and shoots worse than Urbiztondo...
no offense meant, sir. but allow me to modify your post and say that "the problem with urbiztondo is that the only thing he know is to THROW the ball but he does not shoot well.
11 points average. that's roughly three 3 point shots and a field goal every game---in short, four attempts. Urbiztondo takes more attempts than that. waaayyyyy more than that. the average points made does not make one an efficient player. a scorer perhaps. but not efficient. and a 40% shooting clip is definitely not efficient. PLUS he is not a play maker, he has no other moves (except to shoot from beyond the arc), he does not know how to pass well, he does not make his teammates involved in the plays.
he is a shoot first PG
To think that BGK had Mike Cortez in their lineup just a conference ago ....... now, all they have to backup LA is effin' Urbiztondo & Labagala. ;D
Eala trying to revive their trade proposal ...... BGK's Yousef Taha, Elmer Espiritu & Rob Labagala for GLOBAL PORT's Japeth Aguilar & Willie Miller.

Loverboy Eala knows little about basketball; aside from broadcasting games.
Sana naman magfit si Japeth.
masama epekto ng nba d-league sa kanya. natanim sa isip nya na super player sya. chua should be able to control him. otherwise, japeth's acquisition would do more harm than good for ginebra. para syang si bosh...big man na puro sa labas lang at takot makipag-banggaan sa loob.
on another note, now that the ABL is over, talks about Asi's transfer to ginebra are circulating again. who will they trade for him? mamaril and urbiztondo lang ang dapat nila bitawan.
Bitawan na dapat yan si Urbiztondo. :D
Sana nga, kung sakali makuha si Asi ng BGK, they will have their own version of "Twin Towers".

asi and baclao to ginebra
sana mabigyan ng mahabang playtime si Baclao.
Baclao has near reached his peak - when he was in college. Tells you a lot when no plays are being called for you, from college through the pros.
xxx
Baclao has great timing for blocking shots near his zipcode and has half-decent rebounding skills ...... however, he has no polished inside game and his decent mid-ranged jumper is his major source of whatever points he gets.
Gone are the days of the alpha-dog bigs. The last generation had more than a few of those e.g. Ildefonso, Menk, Espino, D.Seigle, Aquino, Hawkins, Limpot, Pablo, Raymundo, etc.
Note: Did not even include those undersized PF's e.g. Locsin and Fil-shams e.g. Harp, Taulava & Pena (yup, these 3 are all Fil-shams).
Baclao has potential. IIRC, he was one of the most sought after rookies during his batch. but he was not properly utilized. perhaps because he lacks size and heft. and, as pointed out, his main source of points is the perimeter, not inside the paint. para syang si bosh --- a big playing on the outside.
ah, yes.....Noli Locsin. he is a rare breed. i hope a player like him comes along again. he suddenly "disappeared" when he left ginebra.
Locsin had a great combination of heft and quickness ...... those spins of his makes for great TV. Too bad that injuries, the arrival of Filams and rumors of drug use pushed him to early retirement.
plus the hang-time, which seemed impossible owing to his size and weight. the flying tank......
never heard he had injuries. well, perhaps because i stopped following him when he left ginebra. yung issue on drug use came up when he was still active? i thought it came out after his retirement. the drugs issue included Jun Limpot, right sir? and other players, iirc.
IIRC the drugs issue popped-up when he was still playing, though he was all but invisible due to his poor play ...... yup, it included Jun Limpot as well.
Locsin was a freakish athlete during his time ...... along with Asaytono - undersized PF's with great hops.
Everyone wishes that he had played a while longer.

yeah...me included. how i admired locsin back then. and how i wished i played like him. sayang, di sya naging mvp.
yes, re-shuffling is ok. but not if done as frequently as eala does it. you will never attain chemistry with the way he is re-shuffling not only players but the coaching staff as well.
Ang medyo hnd pinapakialaman ni Eala ay un San Mig Coffee becoz of his high respect to Tim Cone
Ang medyo hnd pinapakialaman ni Eala ay un San Mig Coffee becoz of his high respect to Tim Cone while the other SMC teams ang gulo gulo ng shauffling of players and coaches.
So did Coach Al quit BGK for good or was he convinced to stay?

It would be funny if, in a few months, fans will clamor for Chua's exit naman for poor performance. He won't be coaching sa 3rd conference but he'll be back next season. But I really don't see Chua lasting long as coach of Ginebra.
Then who takes over Eala's place in trading/shuffling the coaches and players in SMC teams?
Robert Non Sir
Thanks for the info.
I hope he wont be another Eala shuffling coaches and players swiftly but organize a solid group of players and coaches that will be given time to bond with one another.

The PBA has yet to start but Abueva has been in 2 tune-up game altercations already. First with Devance and just today against Danny Seigle. Lalo yatang yumabang at dumumi yung laro ni Abueva. He should tone it down at baka matapos ng maaga career niya.

http://www.spin.ph/sports/basketball/news/video-infuriated-seigle-attacks-abueva-during-alaska-barako-bull-tune-up-game
And Seigle tweeted this referring to Abueva:

Fans are the lifeblood of any league. In he PBA's case, the female demographic became the more prominent one the past 2 decades (thanks in part to that '98 PUREFOODS team).
No offense to our lady viewers, but only a small fraction of female fans know the intricancies of the game and actually play the game. Yup, they won't usually care about things like FG%.
Let's face it (pun intended), face-value is a driving factor for many of our lady viewers ...... the good-looking star players are placed on a high-pedestal regardless of performance e.g. James Yap
One more "shining" example is JC Intal ...... except for a single good quarterfinals series, he has played like CRAP for most of his PBA career. Yet when the PBA sends a team for all-star events, celebrity games, etc you can bet your house that Intal will be there. ;)
oo nga, masyado nga lopsided yung Maliksi-Gonzales/Pacana trade :P
Yeo bound for Air21 as Petron looks ahead to 2014 rookie draft :o >:D >:D >:D >:D
http://www.spin.ph/sports/basketball/news/seldom-used-yeo-bound-for-air21-as-petron-looks-ahead-to-2014-rookie-draft
Pumaren may like Yeo but passing up on the chance of being able to get Parks via a first round draft pick is illogical.
The first version of the trade was fair. This new one is just lopsided.
Ginebra gets James Sena and Air21's 2014 1sr rd pick for Kerby Raymundo? Kerby has been riddled with injuries and isn't the same player he was. But he's traded for a potential 1st pick and a decent back-up big man? Ginebra's the new Petron when it comes to hoarding.
http://www.spin.ph/sports/basketball/news/air21-petron-ginebra-agree-in-principle-on-tweaked-trade-for-yeo-raymundo
Emman Monfort just beat Ginebra tonight. He's been really impressive this conference. He plays like Jayvee Casio but physically stronger. I thought he'd be a solid back-up PG but he's turning out to be a very dependable starting PG.
I hope it's nothing serious. Tuhod pa naman yun. Tenorio just scored 4pts after scoring a career-high 34pts in their last game. Di nakasabay kay Monfort.
Probably the best highlight in that game. Hilarious and impressive at the same time.

In other PBA news, BARAKO BULL has initiated a trade proposal which will send PG Eman Monfort to BARANGAY GINEBRA for the rights to bigman Ed Ducut and its 2036 2nd round pick.
Update: PBA Comm. Chito Salud has deemed the latest trade proposal as "uneven" and demanded that BARAKO BULL include PF Dave Marcelo in the deal to make it fair.
with japeth out for 4 to 6 weeks, ginebra re-activates eric menk.
Ginebra needs a better coach more than a better import.
The Big J returning to BGK will be guaranteed blockbuster but wont bring in the championship/s.
Blame it on the SMC Mgt for the poor performances of its teams. Magulo un palipat lipat ng players and changes of head coaches. Pati un lipat lipat ng mga assistant coaches from sister teams.
No chemistry among its coaching staffs and players becoz they have no time to bond.
Just look at ROS and Alaska. They show results coz their mgt dont meddle too much with the decision of their respective coaches.
there is a God, greedy kase sila masyado kaya ganyan nangyayari sa team nila, parang may curse na.
^Saw this as it happened and watched it again on Youtube.
Mga taga-San Mig Coffee naman nagsimula eh. Blakely wrapped his arm around Hayes' neck and pulled him down. He pulled Hayes down para kunwari finoul siya. Hayes walked away and even though Blakely came to confront him, it was clear that he was just going to talk trash. Nabong was just trying to protect his teammate. Pinalibutan ba naman ng tatlong kalaban. And what Pingris did was just too much. He sucker punched Nabong!
Kung ako si Salud, I would suspend Devance, Blakely, Pingris and Nabong. Blakely should have been called for a Flagrant 2 for that takedown on Hayes. Same with Devance. Pingris and Nabong should be suspended at least 3 games. I don't care if this is a short tournament. They should suffer the consequences of their actions.
I guess the only guy who was thinking straight during that time was Tim Cone.
Blakely and Hayes were actually cool. They were just bumping and making "gulang" on each other which, to me, is normal in basketball. Hayes was walking away na nga. Then all hell broke loose when Devance, Nabong, Pingris went into the picture. Yes, agree. Pingris should get the biggest penalty as he took the first swing on Nabong.
Tim Cone did a Jeff Van Gundy hahaha!!!
i hate to say it......but yes, i agree with you. more than the outdated strategy, Jawo is not his old self anymore. he may inspire and motivate the players but coaching wise, i don't think he still has it. one incident that eroded my confidence in Jawo was when he was being interviewed on radio during fiba-asia. he was incoherent, and his answers were unresponsive to the questions thrown at him.
The Big J returning to BGK will be guaranteed blockbuster but wont bring in the championship/s.
The Ron Jacobs system has long been outdated, what more of Jawo's gung-ho, bahala-na-si-batman style?
Sadly, those schools of coaching will look lost in today's fast-paced offenses and zone defenses.
Call me crazy, but a Yeng Guiao-coached BGK ....... that's a contender right there.
A Tim Cone-coached PETRON ....... you can start counting the championships.
Mayabang na yn si Pingris now that he's connected with the EAT BULAGA Sottos.mayabang na sya nuon pa. grabe na ngayon.
Tapos parang takot sila ke Caguioa at Helterbrand, kaya walang teamwork.

Nakakaaliw si James Yap. Sumimple na naman. Tinulak si Nabong kaya ayun, nadaganan si Tim Come.

As expected Comm. Cheato Salud strikes again ...... only 2-games suspension for what Marc Pingris did ??
Consider that Don Allado was suspended for an entire conference just for his rants on twitter!
I tell you, if this was a non-SMCorp player, it's guaranteed that the suspension would be much, much longer than that.

talo GINEBRA kagabi... biyahe kaya or BOBO ang COACH >:D
dun ako sa huli brader :P
ah........may coach pala sila?
Sobrang garapalan ano ...... harap-harapan linoloko nang SMCorp & Lina/Chua (and Comm. Cheato Salud) ang basketball fans.
Well, at least tatagal si Asi Taulava nang 3 games with AIR21 - the number of remaining games they have before, being eliminated this season.
When Joe Devance was traded by ALASKA to AIR21, he lasted all of 2 practices before being sold este "traded" to BMEG. ;)
Parang walang intensyon mag manalo ah.
Back in 2009, then perennial MVP-contender Arwind Santos was traded by Bert Lina to SMCorp ...... it's an open secret that P20M was the fee for the sale este "trade".
That Arwind Santos trade was just one of many grossly lopsided deals made by Lina/Chua with their SMCorp masters.
Right of the bat ...... Enrico Villanueva, Kerby Raymundo, Marc Pingris, Joe Devance, Cyrus Baguio, Alex Cabagnot, Mike Cortez, Niño Canaleta, Chris Lutz, Dylan Ababou, Allain Maliksi, Marc Barroca, JC Intal, Rabeh Al-Hussaini, Noy Baclao, Rey Guevarra, Billy Mamaril, Doug Kramer, Aldrech Ramos, Homer Se, Dondon Hontiveros, Dorian Pena, Mike Holper, etc, etc, etc, etc ...... and still many more to come.
Above are just straight trades ...... they do not even include the draft rights (slots) which are also being sold este traded by the Lina/Chua group e.g. Junemar Fajardo, John Wilson, Jimbo Aquino, etc.
Ever wonder why top teams PETRON, SMC & BGK still land high in the draft order year after year ??
There's still more ...... COKE/POWERADE was also engaged in serious lopsided deals with SMCorp e.g. Hatfield, Reavis, Mamaril, Lassiter, etc.
perhaps we are looking at it at the wrong perspective >:D
perhaps the non-call on the last second shot by Caguioa in the Alaska-Ginebra, where there was more contact, was an incorrect decision by the referees.
perhaps the call on the Baracael shot, during the ROS-Ginebra game, was the right decision though a bit late.
two "wrongs" don't make it "right". You don't repeat what you did wrong just to be consistent.
perhaps.
wawa naman TNT ko.dame nang talo
ginebra lost by 15 points. tnt was just 8 points shy of eliminating ginebra which, despite a very strong line-up, fares poorly.
just a playful thought....could they be doing it on purpose? po they could go up in the rookie draft? they are unofficially at the third spot in the drafting order. sanggalang, slauhter and parks are the top three picks so far. doing well this conference could make them slide to number 4. they did it once already, and managed to pick marlou aquino. they sure could do it again.
as i've said...just a playful thought.
They're picking high in the draft because of the pick they got from Air21. How they perform this conference won't affect their draft order. Ma-eliminate sila or mag-champion man sila, walang epekto sa kanila yun. Yung performance ng Air21 ang kanilang basis.
Yup, it's AIR21's performance that will bring in the high-draft pick to BGK ........ same as SMC (who'll rely on GLOBAL's 2-last place finishes this season).
Jaworski's BGK was probably the last team to TANK almost an entire season ...... indeed, it was extremely obvious thay wanted Marlou that year. IIRC, Yeng Guiao also tanked a conference hoping to catch-up on BGK's losses.
anyway, to the quarterfinals or to the quarters tonight for TNT and BGK.
The Ginebra-TNT do-or-die game was reset due to heavy rains & flooding in the metro...it will be played
on tuesday @ 7:15pm
if SanMig wins, Arwind might get the MVP award since it will adversely affect Abueva's chances.
well....i don't think abueva will win it also even if they advance to the semis, or even to the finals. media and player votes will most likely go against him. but i'm sure, he will get the ROY award.
By the way, I half-expect that the ZEBRAS will somehow be "extra-active" in tonight's ALASKA-SMC knockout game.
Every major player from ALASKA was in foul trouble last game ...... I expect something similar (and others) tonight. ;)
The only way that Abueva wins the MVP ...... b.) He somehow proposes to Kris Aquino
who won?
Meralco just blew up the team that made it to the semis. They had another trade. Air21 just got Cardona. Si Al-Hussaini at Baclao naman, palipat-lipat lang.
http://www.spin.ph/sports/basketball/news/al-hussaini-moves-from-tnt-to-meralco-as-air21-lands-cardona-in-complex-three-team-trade-v02
A couple more years under Danny Ildefonso at Petron and Norman Black at Gilas and we'll be seeing more of this from Junemar Fajardo. I don't think I've seen a pinoy player as big as Junemar dunk like that.

EJ had his best days under Jaworski. doon sya na-develop ng husto. and if i remember correctly, he and Marlou Aquino were the special assignments of Philip Cezar.

1998 sya naging part ng national team. at that time, nasa purefoods sya. after that, he went back to ginebra (then known as gordon's gin boars and won a championship with the team). 2002 sya naglaro for alaska.
and basing from this --
http://www.pba-online.net/profile/EJ-Feihl/329/ (http://www.pba-online.net/profile/EJ-Feihl/329/)
he had better numbers with ginebra.
the kind of championship where its like your watching a scripted movie.
This series is seriously unbelievable. Napaka-obvious naman ng ginagawa nila. Petron has been consistently blowing past it's opponents this conference. They've won games by an average of 14pts. They just massacred San Mig in Game 3 nung Wednesday, winning by 22pts. Tapos ngayon they're down 23pts at the half?
Petron's starting point guard, Cabagnot is out with an injury,. His reliever, Lanete is still recovering from an injury. Miranda has not been given much playing time under Abanilla. Hubalde is good for a few minutes mostly at scrub time. It is understandable if they played without cohesion during the first half.
Petron has not won a championship with these group of players. I doubt they would play around with their chances since San Mig is a very dangerous opponent. Abanilla is a rookie head coach. If he wants to stay as head coach then he must win the championship or else suffer the same fate as Racela. May pride din naman ang players. If there are machinations going on, it would probably be with the referees.
Petron played without Cabagnot in Game 3 and they demolished San Mig by 22 points. They led all game. Millsap started at point guard then Miranda and Hubalde took turns after. Lanete didn't even play in that game yet they never had problems running their plays. So clearly, the absence of Cabagnot isn't that much of a factor. Even that Game 4 last night showed that the loss of Cabagnot really doesn't matter much. Nahabol agad nila yung lamang 3rd Quarter pa lang. Lumamang pa nga sila. They're clearly the better team so there's no reason for them to be down so big.
And in a Finals game, no one bothered to remind Petron players that they still had a timeout left when Mallari was taking a free throw with 3 seconds left?
Honestly, it's a very good trade for BGK ....... losing Kerby frees up minutes for Japeth, Maierhofer & whoever BGK picks between Sangalang & Slaughter.
For all his talents, all hope of ball movement and passing is lost when Kerby has the ball ....... patay palagi ang bola kay Kerby. He needs the ball for a long time to get his points.
Getting the inept JR Reyes is just trade-filler and insurance, in case Maierhoffer gets injured again.
==========================================================================
Kerby Raymundo going to MERALCO validates yet again what a fraud coach Ryan Gregorio is.
Ryan Gregorio has no long-term plan and just gets players left & right every conference, hoping to hit the jackpot.
For such a young franchise, MERALCO has been blessed with many quality players e.g. Cardona, Mercado, Taulava, Buenafe, Hugnatan, Ross, Belga, Omolon, Isip, Ritualo, Borboran, Macapagal, Lanete, etc. yet no success.

The missed FT's aside, PETRON coach Gee Abanilla lost Game7 for his team ....... SMC's defense can see PETRON's offense a mile away.
PETRON practically ran just 2 plays all game long ....... dump it to Fajardo OR isoball for Milsap. Even in the 2nd half when SMC simply crowded either Fajardo or Milsap, Gee Abanilla never adjusted.
PETRON needs to do a hundred more blatantly lopsided trades to win that elusive championship.

it seems it was only millsap and and fajardo who wants to win, santos was another no show in this game (in fairness as was james yap who missed 2 crucial ft's that could've iced the game).i don't know if coach gee was to blame or the other superstars on that team (except for cabagnot who seems to be not 100%).props goes to blakely and pingris.special mention should go to de vance, simon and ydo for those crucial plays.great defense by petron,i think the game changer was the foul trouble of millsap.congrats to san mig and my fave coach tim cone
well i meant no disrespect to petron players that's why i said i don't know who's to blame.masyado nga nagrely si abanilla dun kay fajardo and millsap.it's a mystery na sa dinami dami ng good players na nakuha ng petron thru trade e kay millsap and fajardo lang naka focus yung offense nila.sabi nga ni coach chot before the game, the x factor could be denok miranda (if he gets playing time) but yun nga di naman sya pinasok ni abanilla.problema kasi ng petron papalit palit na ng players, madalas din sila magpalit ng coach.
kabado pa naman ako nung una as a sanmig fan kasi mataas madalas yata matalo ng mga rookie coach si tim cone (reyes and gregorio if i'm not mistaken) sa finals.

....... Me salary cap kaya yun mga SMC teams?
Walang sinusunod na salary cap ang SMCorp teams ...... honestly working under the annual salary cap (IIRC it's 20+M annually), would allow PBA teams only 2-3 players to receive approximately maximum salary.
A team like SMC has stars such as Yap, Pingris, Simon, Devance, Reavis, Maliksi, etc - all known to receive max or near max salaries ....... no way in hell that team management can fit all of these salaries (plus others on the roster) under the cap.

rookie draft in a few hours. i think slaughter is going to be the top pick, especially since Sanggalang was officially measured at just 6'6". sabi nga ni Jawo "you can't teach height". But i don't think slaughter, or any of the other bigs in the top three for that matter, will flourish under a coach like ato, who becomes effective only with players whose potentials have already been tapped. the san miguel team he coached became champions because the players were good...the players made ato a champion coach, and not him making a champion team.
wla na bang 3rd round?
Jeric Teng could be a perfect fit with Alaska at the off guard position.
At ROS there's Jeff Chan, Ryan Aranya, Chris Tiu so too many off guards to have sufficient playing time.
Perhaps Teng can be traded for Buenafe to benefit both teams.
^Isn't that a good deal for Global Port?
^Isn't that a good deal for Global Port?
Teng won't be a perfect fit at Alaska. He's more potent in a free-wheeling system that RoS has. In a sort of triangle offense that Alaska runs, he's not going to be much of an impact player.
Yeng will be able to find playing time for Teng. Nagagamit nga niya sina Jaime at Uyloan, si Teng pa kaya.
Oh by the way will Ray Parks play his last season on UAAP next year?
Gotta give props to the RAIN or SHINE (RoS) team.
Much like ALASKA, RoS builds their team the right way - via the rookie draft, free-agency and legitimate trades; all the while following the league salary cap rules.
EXTRA-RICE Inc: Belga-Quinahan-Cruz
YANG-CHOW RICE Inc: Tiu-Tang-Teng-Lee-Chan (on the sidelines are Guiao, Jao, Que & Yu)
;D
Belga has already agreed to a new contract with RoS management ......... RoS didn't give him the max contract, but gave him a hefty pay increase compared to his old contract (near max for the 3rd & last year).
ano nasa isip ng Barako?

“It’s a collective decision. We want to get players whom we’ve seen playing in the PBA so we traded our rookie picks,” said the Barako Bull executive.
We can't really complain that much, it's business after all. If these business corporations allow these controversies to happen, then we won't be able to do anything about it. If you really are disgusted with the way things are being handled then don't watch the games, live or on tv.
Why is SMC willing to shoulder 3 teams officially, even 4 before when the gate attendance was at an all-time low? Why have Alaska, the MVP teams and ROS not left the league despite all of these issues? Because the profit and other gains far exceed the expenses. The PBA is not really all about giving to the fans, even though that is the propaganda. The PBA is all about earning money for the different business corporation members.

i just feel that the reason why this thing is going on, wala kaseng nag reklamo, siguro kung mag aalsa ang fans baka matauhan na sila baka sakaling tablan na sila ng hiya, ang PBA naging para na ding politika, puno ng corruption at panlilinlang.
Very notable as well is that Danny Seigle and Rico Maierhoffer has not been signed by any team YET scrubs like Eddie Laure, Paolo Hubalde and Leo Avenido have been signed.
Maierhofer is injured and has been placed on the injured/reserved list of BARAKO ..... he will be back on the active roster as soon as healthy. He'll play a few games for BARAKO then be sold este traded to an SMCorp team.
Seigle has declined the farce team of BARAKO ...... he's still good enough to play and will likely end up with another team soon.
ALASKA values Laure's leadership. Avenido is a nice rotation player for it's thin SG lineup ..... he was an ABL MVP not too long ago. Besides, signing-up both Laure & Avenido is further proof that ALASKA adheres to the salary cap rules.
Completely agree on Paolo Hubalde ...... it's a wonder why this player always finds himself a spot on an SMC team. He is one of many draft failures of Jong Uichico.
Danny Ildefonso no longer part of Petron :(
