The BD region hack is only for the DVD playback.
BD remains in the set region.
I hacked a Panasonic and Sony BD player before.

I just bought a Thomson Bluray Player (used) only because of its DVD region free capability. At it's back it reads Region "B" for BD playback as this is an Australian brand. Lo and behold, it plays Region B and Region A bds so just imagine my happiness.
The Thomson is small and light weight. My initial impression is it looks like a cheapo "pirated" bd player. Surprisingly, its picture and sound quality are very good. I have two panasonic bd players and I can say that the Thomson can match the quality of the branded ones. No bleeding. No juddering whatsoever in fast action movies. I've watched a couple of Region B action movies - The Marine and Olympus has Fallen and I am very happy with it. Plus my region 3 DVDs are upscaled gloriously.
Talk about a good steal eh?

Saan mo nabili bro & what model?
OLX. Model BDP-G2603. Second hand ko nabili at P2,200 (from P2,500). I checked it out online. http://www.graysonline.com/retail/ELG2603/audio-tv-and-home-theatre/thomson-bdp-g2603-blu-ray-player-w-full-hd-1080p
Kesa bibili ako ng dvd player I decided to get this na lang. Then I tried region A bds and it works! My hunch is it is also region free for blurays.
Meron pa isa dati sa OLX pero wala na ngayon.

Very GOOD BUY!
I have some multi-region BDPs but we need to switch the region 1st on our preference using the remote

I am in the middle east and I buy my blurays from the US. Middle East is Region 2/B while US is 1/A. I had that kind of problem before. But since I mostly watch movies from my PC (because of JRiver Media Center), I decided to get the Panasonic BDR-2209 not only for its ability to play blu-ray discs but also because it can burn them. While it can read Region A/1 discs, it can't read any other regions.
What I did was I purchased a license from Slysoft AnyDVD HD ( which has since been bought by RedFox), which unlocks the region to allow playback. I then used a variety of tools namely BD Info, tsMuxer, and MKVToolNix to rip the titles in Remux.
These days I don't buy blurays anymore, I just download them. I'm now even in the process of downloading the Passengers native 4k title for 54 GB.
Hope this helps.
