I have seen one the owner is Blitzkrieg, he was just lucky to get it as his first DVD, I have not seen any other copy, my guess is that it was a sort of a promotional disc.
I have high hopes that commercial production will commence soon.

The package consisted of the VHS tapes and a handsome coffee-table book on the making of the film plus an annotated screenplay. I think GMA Films used this as their requisite stocking-stuffer for the year. Kumbaga, imbes na fruitcake, mug, o kalendaryo, ito yung pamasko na pinamigay nila. Tapos ngayon binebenta pala for $35!? Benta ko kaya, wala namang namamansin dito sa bahay eh (none of us are big fans of the movie).

Nope, I'm sorry to say but that wasn't photoshop edited for the following reasons:
1. A lot of people from PinoyDVD, including myself, have seen the DVD at close range. Although not many of us were allowed to touch it, the owner was able to demo it to us when we ransacked his home.
2. Blitz, the owner, scanned the DVD (since there isn't any available on the net) precisely for this --- to show the elusive RIZAL DVD copy here in the boards. I highly doubt it if he used Photoshop because (sorry to say this Blitz!) Blitz is not into computers a lot. In fact, he was trying to send the scanned picture to me for weeks now (Yahoo Messenger, email...) but it took him too long to send it coz he really isn't into computers (sorry again Blitz!)
3. A lot of us were skeptics at first, but, hey, Blitz showed us the real deal and well, we were speechless.

Maybe if we start a petition letter to GMA Films to issue another set of Rizal DVD's, and if they see that there is a significant number of people who will buy them, I think they will do it. MuroAmi has come out on DVD and it is a "lesser" film compared to Rizal. I hope it would be easy to ask them, considering reissue lang naman at hindi new DVD. Unless of course they decide to add more special features and have more bonuses. We just have to send the listing to them at GMA Films.

I bought the Rizal VCD last Christmas. I am very surprised with the excellent quality of reproduction not unlike the other legit VCDs I bought (like Tombstone) where you can see the pixillations.
On the Rizal VCD, the picture was a little notch higher than VHS playback. If such is the case, the DVD should have better quality. Just hope GMA realizes that there is a market for a Rizal DVD.

I think it would be much much better if you guys get a copy of mike de leon's Bayaning Third World. It puts rizal into perspective unlike Rizal which almost puts him into god status.. just thinking out loud

if and when it comes out on dvd, i'm sure it's on DD5.1. it's one of the very few pinoy films released as 5.1 sa theaters.
and i'm sure, they'll throw in a lot of "special features" within the disc, judging by the "making of..." VCD na released kasama ng book.
and jude, swerte ang utol mo to have received the book and the tape from gma as a gift. kaunti lang ang pinagbigyan niyan that time. believe me, i was the one who prepared all those, as the ex mktg services head ng marketing. :)

Hmm, Have you not notice? this could be one possibility why there is a hard time for this film to be released on DVD format. Probably GMA Films have a hard time removing the burned subtitles in Rizal film ;D

i don't think so. original or master copies of the film do not have subtitles. they don't put subtitles during the shoot. ;D

After reading this forum, it looks like that I'm forced to transfer my VHS copy (padala ng aking ina mula sa Maynila - hikbi) to DVD just to preserve the movie. >:( I'll just create a simple front end menu for this one. As for that Sha-la-la-la shot, I was hoping I could find one somewhere in the web but I'd doubt that they'd have at 720x480.

And I didn't know na buhay pa rin ang thread na ito. Sana nga mai-release na ang Rizal DVD na yan. Pero baka naman after its release, people will be ranting as to how the dvd sucked because the picture quality was similar to that of a Viva dvd. Hopefully not.

i hope this will encourage GMA to mass produce the "Jose Rizal" DVD (mala-R1). ;D

i know of a person who has a copy which camefrom the abovementioned, pero di ko alam kung for sale. d siya dvd collector. contact me, 417-14-29 and i will try to persuade him to sell it pero malamang lakihan niya ang presyo.

i believe this was never released commercially. i doubt if a UPC is assigned to it. anyhow, this would be distributed again as part of gift pack/corp profile for GMA clients and advertisers. make sure you contact your friends from media placement agencies as early as now.

The one I saw appeared, shall I say, more commercial in terms of looks (bad GMA logo print, MTRCB sticker and all that jazz) but I bet that this is much better in terms of PQ and SQ since it took so many years before they decided to release it and at an opportune time that dvd technology is way, way advanced than it was 7 years ago.
So my copy is no longer in the rare list. :'( :'( :'( My consolation though, it was personally signed by Direk Malou. Bwaha! ;D ;D

Half and half - the English subtitles for the Spanish parts are burned into the film (and are difficult to read in scenes with white foreground), but the English subtitles for the Tagalog parts of the film can be turned on and off:

The film transfer itself is very clean. One of the best I've seen for a Philippine movie:

The trailer, though, looks like it was transferred from an old VHS recording of the commercial. Yup, and Direk Marilou still fondly remembers meeting Blitz. Ironically, she was never given a copy of the LE DVD release either so she's had to contend with screening and giving away the VCD version all these years.
