which do you think is the better DVD casing for you ?
KEEP CASE or SNAP CASE
and WHY?

-
Personally I prefer the keep case over the snap case.
-
I'll go for the keep case, i think it is much better.
-
Keepcase for me.
Only Warner uses Snap cases and that's because they are part owners in the company that manufactures them.
-
i hate those snappers (snap case) . they get thumbmarks all over the place. especially in shiny cases like the superman collection >:(
-
I like keep cases din. That's because I think it's more durable and so it will be able to protect the disc far longer than a snapper case can. However, I did like how they packaged Citizen Kane, probably the only non snapper case Warner has released so far.
Other companies use the snapper too though. New Line and HBO, which is of course part of Warner pa rin. Image Entertainment uses it as well, as well as the producers of Caligula.
-
;D Of course intercourse, KEEP CASE. Pag nasira you can drop by the nearest SM mall and buy one. Pag nasira ang SNAPPER, then that is the end of it. So those na nag-aabang ng Harry Potter, bite your nails off dahil Warner yon so SNAPPER!!!! >:(
But I have a tip for those who wittingly and unwittingly end up with snapper cases. Did you know you can actually wrap the cardboard body with book plastic to protect it from wear and tear and dirt? Snap off the upper and lower lock of the case so that leaves you with the cardboard body. Then wrap the damn thing with plastic and seal the edges with scotch tape except the part where you can find the title index. Be sure it fits snuggly then snip off that portion of the upper and lower cardboard where the lock's teeth pass through. After that re-lock again and presto, parang laminated na siya. All my snappers are carefully wrapped by me and some ended on members na nakabili ng ibang snappers ko. Try it! ;D
-
My wife is the one wrapping my snapper cases. She showed me how to remove the cover. Happy siya when I bought a disc kay Blitz dahil naka wrap na.

Not all WB DVDs are snappers. Citizen Kane, for example, is stored in a keep case :)
correction: CK isn't in a keep case pala. It's more like those Special Ed fold out thingees a la Boogie Nights or The Simpsons ;)
-
Another vote for keep cases! :)
I don't like snappers because they are more prone to getting wet, among other reasons...
-
I don't like snappers as well...they don't seem to give enough protection for the disc inside. Plus when they're stacked one on top of the other, minsan lumulubog yung ibang covers.
However, most good titles also come in this cases so what can you do. I don't really feel the need to cover them with plastic but that's a good suggestion Blitz...I might do it if I find the time.
-
bro Blitz,
thanx for the tip at lahat ng snappers ko ay naka-plastic cover na din at ang ganda tignan kasi parang naka-sealed pa din siya at parang mukhang laging bago. ;)

wala yatang nag vote for Snap .. ako sa snap (para itapon he he he) .. syempre ... dun ako sa pedeng bumili ng kapalit (sabi nga ni blitz) ... he he he.... so Keep Case din ako... :)
woodie520 ;)

Both cases have their advantages and disadvantages, but the trade-offs with the Snap Case make it less appealing.
I prefer the keep case as it gives us a better way of protecting the DVD's, they are also slightly more compact than the snap case.
The Snap Case actually provides a better showcase for the product contents in one page, but then one never really minds the extra sheet of production notes inside a keep case.
I never tried covering any of my snaps with plastic, but if PinoyDVD comes out with an official Member's plastic snap case cover, then maybe...
Question to those who have covered their snaps in plastic. Doesn't the humidity get in between the cover and plastic and making the plastic stuck on the cover? Just curious.
-
Down with Snappers! >:(
There was an online petition launched against snap cases, but of course it didn't do any good. Or maybe it did, because New Line switched over from snappers to keepers for their Infinifilm series.
One question for those in the printing business -- aren't covers & inserts for keepcases cheaper to print than snapper cardboard casings? Or do you think the costs just come out the same?
-
keep cases! its hard to store those snap cases if you want to preserve the condition of the cover! ::)
-
can u ever compare it... definitely keep cases...
*off-topic*
one thing that first held me back in starting a dvd collection is that ang liit kasi ng case(well, dvd lang naman laman eh)..compared to those large packages for laserdiscs
i find it more amusing to browse thru your film collection if naka-stack sa isang box yun mga laserdiscs, then flip them na parang records ...
oh i miss laserdiscs..baket kasi ang mahal eh!
-
;D ;D I agree to most of you guys and gals!! Keep case is easier to keep and to handle...and besides nga...madaling palitan!
Keep Case votes: 13 and going
Snap Case votes: none at the moment!!
;D ;D
Keep case rules!!!! ;D ;D
-
Snappers...I hate them! >:(
It's hard to file them, and most of all the covers are prone to tearing. I agree with Anali "Down with the Snappers!" 8)

espace,
about your question regarding the plastic cover on snap casing.
maganda pag may cover ng plastic ung snap case at mas presentable tignan. ;)
ang maganda sa keep case ay may nabibiling pamalit while snappers ay wala pa yata so far.

Ako snap case.
NOT!
Syempre keep case. ;D
-
All my snap cases have been converted to keep cases. Just remove the cover and have it xeroxed (colored) at 97% of the original. Cut the back portion a little more since a snap case is not even. buy replacement cases at Astro then you're ready to go.
There are also some websites that make alternative covers of snap cases that you can print out on your pc.
-
Keep case...by a landslide!
Excuse me kung medyo off topic pero may nabibilhan ba orig na amaray case? I was able to bought in Makro some replacement cases pero they're not as good as the original.
-
i prefer the keep case. in my opinion, it's sturdier.
:D :-/

Pare, since you found time helping me in my set-up and not for wrapping your snappers, I WILL DO IT FOR YOU!!! No stir!
Bring them to me on _____________. Akin na rin plastic. My way of saying THANK YOU!!!
-
Keep case. Mas mahirap pasukin ng dust and moisture ;)
-
Hehehe! ;D
and may Dual Case pa sa CD casing. ;D

Vax,
Thank you for this reply.

Good news:
New Line Moving Away from Snapper Case (http://www.videostoremag.com/news/html/breaking_article.cfm?sec_id=2&article_ID=3735)

i hate the snap cases, laging nasisira sa kakaopen and sarado! >:( so i prefer keep case or better packaging! ;D
-
keep case... hands down winner!!
snappers are nice coz they are different but they are a pain to keep... madaling maluma, prone to scratches and eventually lumuluwag ang lock... and worst of all: irreplaceable... unline keep cases... easily available and once napalitan mukhang bago ulit dvd mo... ;D
-
excuse my stupidity in advance. i'm new in the world of dvd collecting ;D ...
but what exactly are keep and snap cases? i can't figure it out just reading the above posts. are keep cases the cardboard ones where it folded into itself twice and snap cases the plastic ones which, erm, "snaps" when it opens and closes?
i bet you're wondering what i'm doing here at pinoydvd.com...

yes, pictures pleassse. :) all the DVDs in my meager collection seem to be in snap cases.
-
most of warner titles are snap cases. mas malaki sya (in width, pero di obvious) compared to keep cases. keep cases usually have thicker cover kase yun lang ang protection niya.
keepcases yung nakikita mong very common sa stores and sidewalks.
-
keep case... :) ;) :)
-
i think the days of the snapper case is ending :)
read that warner sold its dvd unit to another company. hope this company reissues all the titles previously released in those damn snappers like the Matrix

thanks for the info brod bunkie ... :)

Keep Case :)
-
amaray este keepcase pala 8) 8) 8)
-
Now that the Keep or Amaray style case has won Warner over, there's a dearth of snapper cases around, making the "rare" find of a snapper case among store shelves a little serendipitous - it's almost like the snapper cased DVD's are talking to you saying "I'm the genuine article, buy me!!"
But then, if it's still a movie you don't like, waxing nostalgic on a snapper case (hurry, pick them up, while they're still around to show the grandkids, hehehe ;) ) won't make the movie any better.
Some Warner titles are still available in both snapper and the newer keep cases. Personally, given a choice with all things equal, I'll take the older stock snapper case to go with my 7 year :o collection of Warner snappers. ;D
Just a thought. Pardon the ranting... it's probably just the seven year itch (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/B000059GEF/)!
-
I'm starting to miss those snapper cases. There are just so few warner tites in them these days. The first genuine DVDs I got were on snappers. And if the title is not 2-disc editions or doesnt' have inserts, it can easily be mistaken as pirated stuff. ;D
-
Snap case for me. First dvd released was in snap case and it's part of history. Warner shouldn't have switch to keep case. It looks better. Must take extra care for it lang. Buy plastic dvd covers to extend it's life.

agree. there is a thread here teaching you on how to properly safekeep your snapcase. all my snapcases are protected this way. wrapped carefully just like a book.
On another note, i bought the iron giant on snap case for 299. yipee. ;D
-
i'm a sucker for snapcases!! ;D even those people ranting before can't convince me to dispose my snapper casings. look at warner releases nowadays, they look like p*rated ones! :P
-
True, there are no lousy snapper cases, are there? Unlike those amaray cases which some distributors put into the cost-cutting knife, resulting in wrinkled plastic covers. No wonder Warner eventually gave in to the pressures. They can cost save on cheap amaray cases, but might have difficulty doing so in snappers.
