joan2, here are the spec sheets:

>> 2SK1529.pdf

>> 2SJ200.pdf

thought so... the 2SK405/2SJ115 power mosfets are used in both the luxman hybrids and the sansui MOS limited/premium models.

joan2, according to my friend, toshiba is a bit strict when it comes to their sample program -- too many questions... i assume his contact works in toshiba japan coz his email address is @toshiba.co.jp... but we did get contact info on 2 of their distributors here in manila.

i'll email you the contact info tomorrow.  call you later.

as fas as samples goes, the standard answer in case they ask is to tell them that you need those for "evaluation" purposes....

Re: Mini-ref type speakers

Used to have a pair in my very small bedroom (from 1993 to 2000) Pioneer ang brand paired with my nikko 9095 amp.  Medyo dark-sounding ang speakers na ito.  I used to turn up the treble control (sagad) just to be able to make the sound more balanced.   Sa bass department naman, wala talaga akong masabi sa combination ng amp and speakers, deep and strong ang bass.  In music mode with my current HT setup (w/ subwoofer on),  di nya maipalabas yung ibang lower frequencies sa mga cd tracks/songs na pinapakinggan ko dati.   One such song is "A Whole New World" from the Aladdin Soundtrack.  Also listened a lot to heavy metal and alternative cds.  I listened a lot to songs of groups such as Metallica, Skid Row, Tesla, Dream Theater, Pearl Jam, Stone Temple Pilots, Saigon Kick, Trixter, etc.  Medyo rocker talaga ako dati dahil mahilig din ako mag-gitara ;D  I'm not saying that my current setup is a slouch, I mean its really great for HT. :D

OT: I went back to "the mall" to buy a pair of kenwood mini-ref speakers that i saw last week, only to find that it was sold already... curses, foiled again!

Unlike most speakers at the pier, that one looked like it was "pre-owned" rather than uhh thrown away as junk.  But the downside was they also priced it way above normal.. 5.5k would you believe?  I could get a Diamond 8.x with that.  Anyway, i thought it was too expensive, but (again) got curious when i saw it at yahoo auctions selling for 68k yen.  Sure its cheaper than the yamaha's 80k, but 68k yen that's about 30k pesos.  Plus it looks just like my very first speaker, a bookshelf kenwood the size of a B&W602 with the same familiar metal tweeter and cross-weaved carbon fiber woofer.  The only difference i think is that the midrange is a large metal dome just like the yamaha, and its 3x bigger than my bookshelf.  So i thought why not check it out... armed with my audio CD's and 5.5k, i went home empty-handed.  Which i guess... is ok!   ;D  ;D

sighted several weeks ago... but i dunno if still der...

click here --> Denon PMA-780D

- 8ohms: 110w + 110w continuous
- 6ohms: 130w + 130w continuous
- 2ohms: 350w + 350w dynamic
- DAC S/N: 105db

this unit has built-in DACs... 3 coaxial inputs at the back.  we tested it with 2 pairs of mini-ref speakers coz one pair had busted woofers and the other pair had busted tweeters.  so it was like we were bi-wiring a single speaker.  sound was earth-shaking loud at 9'oclock volume.  the woofer speaker had 12 inchers so i could feel the slam in my chest.  sorry guys, i was contemplating on this so i didnt post it right away.  but now that i'm broke, i stopped contemplating... ;D  ;D

its hidden inside the store.  i specifically asked "manong" to keep it in his internal stash of amps coz i might get back to it later, but that was weeks ago.

"Suave" iyong Sansui Surplus Amp mo kahapon connected with the B4. All I can say is JACKPOT ka jan.

By the way, thanks for hosting the EB yesterday.

peace.

iceman, so far i haven't seen one.  the closest i've seen is an integrated amp with direct power amp inputs.

Bro Akyat,
During my scouting at "the mall" I've come to a place na hindi masyadong nadadaana ng tao, mas mura sila mag quote. yung mall dun na halos TV yung mga tinda, mas mura yung price nila. sana kinuha ko number nila

Bro Hans,
Kailan kayo bibili ng Sansui? sama naman ako, pede ako hanggang end of this month except Nov 11, 20, 23.

Cheers,

mga Surplus Amps fanatics,

Don't show your enthusiasm when buying one at baka maisip ng mga sellers na atat tayo at baka magkataasan ng price.
Don't also tell them about PinoyDVD.

These Surplus Amps are really a steal considering price and performance. Sugal nga lang. Pray na it will not conk out kaagad.

Sansui AU-alpha707

click the pic!

things i like:
- glossy finish
- huge transformer
- beer can size capacitors
- isolation of pre/power/terminal sections
- power amp direct/main-inputs
- XLR balanced inputs
- gold plated RCA jacks
- big binding posts
- the big & warm sound!

its been a month since i got the sansui.  i started to write my impressions when i posted the pics last month, but i changed my mind coz i wanted to keep it to myself, lie low muna until i spot the newer & higher model alpha-907i.  baka tumaas ang demand eh, di ko na makuha.

ngayon di na pwede itago dahil buking na!!  hehe

(don't get the F or G models, they're not as good as the alpha)
