First Impression sa Sony ES Amp.

IMHO, i found this amp neutral sounding connected to my MS 902 and having a VCD/CD Player as the source.

Haven't connected though to my MS 912.

And also this AMP does not get hot easily compared to my Kenwood Receiver on stereo use.

Better dynamics or should I say full-bodied ang sound compared to the 9060D on stereo.

I thought the clipping would be solved when I change AMP. Hindi pala. Still I am not comfortable to listen to high volume. Anyway, this SONY ES - MS 902 is set up in my room (3m x 3m). I hope harshness will be gone when I move the set up to the Sala next month.

Update:

SONY ES AMP vs. 9060D

SONY: Yup. akyat is right. mas mataba tumunog, but bass is stiff and ear piercing (mid and high) at high volume. Malakas and has lots of power reserve.

9060D: Bass is refined, lower, softer. Much more forgiving to the ears at high volume. Much comfortable to listen to.

cheers.

Hi, sir akyat, may question lang ako, ilang watts na transformer ba ang kailangan para sa mga surplus amps, para safe ang operation niya. Minimum?  ???
 Thanks !!

has to be more than the power consumption printed at the back of the amp (with some allowance)... i use a 1000w transformer coz i also connect my surplus TV to it... but i think 500w would suffice if the amp consumes only 200w - 300w.

when using a transformer, i prefer to use 100V rather than 110V... you'll never know how high a voltage spike could go... better if you use an AVR.

pareng nels76, mukhang matinding stress test yan ha... the 333ES is rated 105w/ch at 8ohms and 140w/ch at 4ohms... i can only imagine the stress that your mighty ms-912's are undergoing at the point of clipping.

with a VU meter in the amp, i can see that 95% of the time the power output is only between 0.3W to 10W, spending most of the time at less than 2W when playing vocals... but during dynamic peaks, and especially when using the #6 drum track, i can easily reach 130w/ch and above.

You preferred correctly,  jap appliances are rated at 100VAC not 110.  The latter would overdrive them.

in my last trip to the pier, these 2 heavy duty amps got me interested... but last i checked, the sansui was already sold... both are around 105wpc, late 80's models.

onkyo integra A-701D - asking P5,500 (built-in DAC, coaxial/optical inputs)

sansui au-alpha607L extra - asking P5,800 (power amp direct inputs)

Very tempting to get.  Especially if those at the pier looked exactly like those in pictures.  Last I was there, I saw plenty of sansui au-d7 something amps but their conditions on the face plates won't make you wanna buy them.

yeah those "D" models are just accumulating, not very good according to some sansui fan sites... those are the models that gave sansui a bad rep, they tried to redeem themselves thru the "alpha" models but the damage has been done.

Hi , i just bought my first surplus amp, i got the
Denon PMA-780D, meron bang iba pang nakabili nito ? any feedback? for me the denon sounds way better on audio than my yamaha rxv-630. mas buo ang tunog and the highs are very clear,i'm using Wharfs 8.3. medyo mahal lang bili ko, 5.2k. sa cubao ko nabili, meron pa dun isa onkyo integra A-701d, asking is 6k. kunin ko sana yun kya lang when we tried it sa optical wala labas na sound, so i settled for the denon, no regrets naman.  ;D

James lend me his Denon DCD 800 last night.

Now I have the pleasure of connecting it to Roger's Sony ES and my MS 912 for evaluation.

This morning I was already impressed with the sound improvement of this DENON when connected to my Kenwood 9060D and 902.

Will post my review soon on:

DENON - SONY - MS Combo.

Denon and Sony are both surplus equipment.

Problem witht he DENON though is that it does not have a good "grip" on the CD while being played.

hi, just went to the pier today, Latest Sighting : Alpine/Luxman LV-105 hybid amplifier yung may 2 tube sa front. 5.5 k asking. almost bought the luxman dahil sa reviews ni Sir Akyat, but i saw another amp, a Harman Kardon HK 6100 any feedback on this amp it's quite small compared to the other amps but when we tested the sound was quite amazing to my ears. the store wanted 5.5 k for the HK6100 mura ba to or mahal. ? Sir Akyat any views on this amp ? Baka gusto niyo pa kunin yung luxman.  nahawa na yata ako.  ;DThanks !! ;D :-\

nakupo, labanan mo ang sakit na yan hehehe  ;D ;)

thanks for the tip bro, baka bukas wala na pareho yan hehehe joke joke, after the accuphase i swore that it will be the last solid state amp i will buy in the next 12 months, tube naman this time.

dalawang luxman na nasira ko, papaayos ko yung isa with original parts, tapos yung isa gagawin kong frankenstein amp, either gainclone or super leach circuit sa power section while retaining the tube in the preamp section... yung luxman hindi kasing taba ang bass compared sa denon mo, pero gusto ko yun dahil medyo overpowering ang bass ng speaker ko minsan kaya sa luxman mas tight & tuneful ang bass... weakness nga lang niya is medyo bright & confused pag malakas na volume.

does it look like this?

HK6800... i suppose it may be close relative.

120W/ch (4/8ohms 20-20,000Hz)
15.5kg

power output ratings by HK are usually underspecified so expect better performance than similar spec amps from other jap brands.

mga tsong,

kung meron akong 150W RMS na speaker, ano ba dapat ang wattage ng amp na match sa speakers ko based don sa mga binebenta sa pier? ano ba ang ibig sabihin ng mga wattage na naka display sa mga amp don sa pier, is it the power output or the power consumption?

power consumption ...

"guestimate" is divided by 3.5 to get RMS per channel

so if the spec at the back says 180 watts more or less its 60 W/ch...then again...this is guestimate ...

I've recently learned that your amps should have 20% more power than the rated RMS of your speakers. Yung wattage at the back of the amps are usually the power consumption. USUALLY ha? not always. Yung rating kasi at the back of the amps are usually impedance lang. TC. :)

I'm not saying you're wrong bro, ha? Kasi I had a technician friend that even said you just divide the power consumption by 2 and that's it. But amplifiers have efficiency ratings din e, so amps that have higher efficiency ratings convert the power consumption to actual amplification power more efficiently and therefore have higher power to drive speakers. Mahirap kasi malaman ang power output ng amp pag walang manual e. And manufacturers will never give out efficiency ratings ng amps nila. So pag surplus, all you can do is audition.

arthur..

no problem....

like i said its ....guestimate....and was never meant to be accurate...but I use 3 to 3.5 more or less to give me an idea...when there is no other information  to go on....

but it would be best to search the net ...most oldish pioneers/sansui/marantz  would be listed on the net somewhere with the  WATTS / Channel informations

LOD/TRIO-Kenwood /Hitachi brands may be harder to find...

Hi, i recently bought a pair of surplus speakers. Sir akyat any links to this speaker Thanks ??? :) :)
