What Concert Blu Rays have u viewed that you will highly recommend?
Post up! :) ;D
-
My favorites:
- Dave Matthews and Tim Reynolds: Live at Radio City Music Hall (Dolby TrueHD!)
- Foo Fighters Live at Wembley (lossless)
- The Police Certifiable: Live in Buenos Aires (very hard to find, let me know if you find one! :))
- Woodstock: 3 Days of Peace & Music Director's Cut (40th Anniversary Ultimate Collector's Edition, Dolby TrueHD)
:D

IF YOU MEAN by image resolution alone, the best of the best Blu Ray concerts I could cite to you would be: BARRY MANILOW LIVE (originally a year 2000 concert but film stock is so superb in both its DVD and HD-DVD incarnations, and now a reference disk on its BD edition), QUINCY JONES MONTREUX (this concert could've taken place in Switzerland in 2010, overly long with a smattering of blues-oriented acts that could put you to sleep like Petula Clark and Al Jarreau, but the picture is reference-quality; if another edition surpasses its image then the whole film by all means is remastered in 4K high definition; if you pine for the whole Quincy Jones discography this BD concert covers all four decades - including Ai No Corrida and The Dude from the 1981 hit album).
Also, PAT METHENY (a concert over Metheny and Lyle Mays' last album with the trademark Metheny jazz sound, both its DVD, HD-DVD and BD incarnations are superb but critics says the BD is the reference grade), TAKE THAT THE CIRCUS LIVE (Take That is the original boy band from Britain, during their heyday they were marketed in a bizaare fashion as a "gay-oriented" group - yet in this BD which is their third, after reuniting - there's no hint of such gay flavour because the band's audience were 99% female. This BD is a good calibration material if you want to determine your set's Contrast and Tint & Hues through the pervasive footages of female flesh, literally. That means your visual fine-tuning is right on because Take That's female fans has the right Caucasian skin).
Also RETURN TO FOREVER MONTREUX, a reunion concert by jazz stalwarts like Chick Correa and Al DiMeola. For me its esoteric jazz, not radio-friendly, with only three accessible songs from the entire set. But the picture is sumptuous. A showcase for Blu Ray capturing the most minute details in a semi-darkened stage set. JEFF BECK ROCK & ROLL PARTY - another BD with a sumptuous, gorgeous picture thats also good for calibrating your player's User setting and your TV's Picture template - through the lead singer's (the gorgeous-looking Irish singer named Imelda Mays) Caucasian skin tones. Thats it, if you wanted more recommendations, I could cite even more. And you'll eventually like the music....

Thanks Verbi and Alice,
Would you guys know where these titles are available?

FRANCIS, are you trying to collect Concert BDs? If you come to think of it, music BDs are the best collectables because their inherent interestingness doesn't dampened or dissipate easily. With movies you come to spend P1,500 or more for every title pero pagsasawaan mo na yan after three or five viewings. Wala nang repeat viewing value. You spend that much for entertainment thats meant to be disposable (unless Ben Hur yan, o Ten Commandments, o Wizard Of Oz or Sound Of Music - all of which are remastered in the ultra-high 4K process). But with concerts mai-enjoy mo siya even for years because as long as you wanted to hear the music once more, you'll come to return to the BD, like you do with a favorite CD. To look for the titles I cited to you, try to scour for them from AMAZON.UK - not Amazon US but U.K. The British Amazon is inexplicably cheaper with a more humane mailing charge.
Idagdag ko pa: MICHAEL MCDONALD THIS CHRISTMAS - an obscure BD featuring Christmas tunes sung by that soulful voice thats nonpareil, nothing else like it - the Michael McDonald vibrato vocals. Former lead of The Doobie Brothers and enjoying renaissance after renaissance of hit Motown revival albums, Mcdonald's BD is crisp, gorgeously staged and contains the right mix of Christmas tunes plus his pop hits (What A Fool Believes, etc.).
Also, THE POLICE LIVE IN BUENOS AIRES - an exquisite concert BD thats very suitable showing for the bigger screen TV displays. Sting is certifiably the boring, humdrum element of this concert; indulgent and apparently just going through the motions by now because his musical career has never plateau'd. But the amazing aspect of this concert is the Police's guitarist Andy Sommers. Andy, who is 10 years older than both Sting and the drummer, lent the barebones concert a sonic texture thats hard to believe is achieved only by his guitar. I tried to find a hidden keyboard or synthesizer player - the 4th man onstage - but there's nobody there, only the three. Hence, this concert is carried ably by the guitar masterwork of Andy the guitarist, minus the ambient help of a synthesizer or keyboard which could've made it as a New Wave reunion act at the same time.
Take also KATHERINE JENKINS THE O2 ARENA - if you care for the mellower stuff, or operatic-tinged ballads. Jenkins alone on Blu Ray is already worth the price of admission.
-
I've watched The Police in Buenos Aires thrice (DL'd 23GB pure BD in TrueHD) and Im still looking for the hidden back up musicians. They've got to be there somewhere in the dark areas of the backstage (or under). I still cant believe a single lead guitarist, and a single bass guitarist can produce such rich collaboration of sounds.
Katherine Jenkins - gorgeous lady but kinda boring to watch the entire show - probably not my cup of tea but she's hot indeed. Same as Kylie Minogue - hot but boring to watch in the long run.
My wife's guilty pleasure - Boyzone's last concert at Manchester (before the 2nd lead vocal untimely passed away). Nakakabakla si Ronan Keating, and surprisingly, even my teenage daugher appreciated their music.
Foreigner Live- the new lead CAN sing! I prefer the sound mix/quality of the 2008 version show (Soundstage) than the 2010 at the Ryman. The vocals are clearer.

Yes Alice, I totally agree with you that having a concert BD collection is quite good, that's why I want to start a concert collection apart from my BD Collection. :)
I'll have my THE POLICE LIVE IN BUENOS AIRES by October, hehehe ;D ;)

-The 25th Anniversary Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame Concerts
-Sheryl Crow Live
-
America Live In Chicago 2011 (Soundstage) - if you like their songs.
The duo still sing well but not like Eagles perfect (I take this back, the duo still sings at the same key and pitch perfect). Actually, I didn't know how they look until I watched the concert but it's quite soothing and nostalgic to hear those 70s folk rock huge hits live and in good and clear sound quality.
This has been my favorite concert BD while chilling out. It sounds better and better as you listen more. Wish my wife were here to listen to All My Life and I Need You live - beautiful beautiful old songs. Acoustic guitar works (America trademark) are mostly strumming but really nice. Awesome classic rock!

FRANCIS my pal, you're bound to find the Blu Rays I cited from amazon UK, original Amazon (US), and if you wanted an alternative source - from CD-Wow UK. Cd-Wow, I have to cautioned you, is not as reputable as Amazon, but they'll never cheat on you. The worst they could do is curse-inducing delays. As to CSN, Paul McArtney & wings and the other concerts you cited, wala akong nalalaman na may BD sa mga taong ito. There's two CSN concert DVDs I know, but I have not gotten any one because this group is despairingly ageing and there's the third member whose musical juice is hopelessly sapped out a long long time ago, by drug abuse. I would not care to watch a living wreck like that. As to Paul McArtney, I have the 2-disk THE MACARTNEY YEARS VIDEOGRAPHY DVD. The most complete and only one compilation of Paul's videos, a godsend for completist. This is a treasure for the strong fans - it has the classic videos for Ebony & Ivory, Take It Away, Blackbird (from Band On The Run), and dozens more. But its not on BD hence you have to make do with the average quality of these resurrected short films.
The music BDs I touted to you are good collectables because they could be enjoyed even by your older or younger family members. The bad thing about rock music is that it polarizes the young from the not-so-young and the elderly because the elderly will likely to find its beat, melody and rhythm as repulsive. Di tulad noong araw, music can be enjoyed by everyone in the house. Kaya if you're going to spend lang for concert BDs, pilii mo na yang ma-appreciate kahit medyo bata at medyo may edad na. There's ANDREA BOCELLI VIVERE - but this BD has a technical defect, in the duet numbers with Sarah B, the closeups is not as crisp as the picture resolution of general stage shots. Brief sequences are also present where the resolution looks "ngongo" or visually blunted. Its annoying and very few pieces are musically ear-friendly.
DAVID FOSTER'S THE HITMAN is a very good collectable. On this BD, I saw around EIGHT FILIPINOS among the audiences. I couldn't be mistaken about it - those are Pinoys on the audience. They're present on the Chaka Khan I'm Every Woman number, and the last two songs from Donna Summer. West-bound Pinoys looked they truly loved Foster - or maybe they're present to add more clapping force to that overrated Pempengco girl. Kung di pa ako nagkakamali, kabilang din sa audience ay yung retired US Women Volleyball champion na si Gabrielle Reece yata yun, at yung bidang babae sa isang 90's US sitcom. Hence Hitman is worth having for its Pinoys-in-the-audience curiosity factor.
CHRIS BOTTI BOSTON is good visually but the numbers are "uneven." Botti is able to make his BD a worthwhile musical with fair repeat viewing factor - but for every Yo Yo Ma and Lusia Micarelli (both violinists) there's the meant-to-shock invitee like the Aerosmith lead singer which ruins the show, that satan-worshipping junkie with a face like a chihuahua's skin.

newbie question: Pwede po ba ko bumili sa amazon ng mga blu-ray concert using my own credit card then papadala na nila directly to my address or kailangan ko pa magpaship using JAC kapag bibili ako sa Amazon?
-
you can order using your credit card, but if your ordering at amazon.us, it is much better to use JAC service to avoid paying high customs tax
*I ordered through direct shipping of amazon.us and I payed around P40. This is a hit or miss thing with Philippine customs.
-
I have 4 BD concerts which I highly recommend to everybody.
1. David Foster and Friends
2. Lang Lang Live in Vienna
3. Michael Buble Caught in the Act
4. Chris Botti Live In Boston

The 30 year old Queen's 1981 concert in Montreal (plus Live Aid 85's 25-min Queen performance as bonus - one of the greatest live performances of all time) - Freddie Mercury was truly beyond awesome as lead vocalist and live performer. The background chat between 2 surviving Queen members was very enlightening and amusing as well.
-
AS AN example of a disappointing Blu Ray in terms of picture resolution, shun off HALL & OATES LIVE AT THE TROUBADOR. This concert brings the trademark hits of the duo, plus an ultra-rare performance of the late 70's track "Abandoned Luncheonette" which is a very good composition - but I couldn't abide with the accoustic treatment of most pieces, talagang di ko masakyan pag in-accoustic na. More unfavorable is the soft picture which is irritating if you paid a lot for this title which is becoming scarcier. Avoid if you want your money's worth.

Flavor of the day last Saturday
Taylor Swift Journey To Fearless 2010.
Nice combination of live concert and interesting documentary and behind the scenes (inserted between songs). Puede na yung quality ng DTS-HDMA5.1 soundstream - sounds very much like country/pop Taylor Swift. Medyo heartbroken pala ang Taylor...hehehe
-
I just watched Destiny's Child Live in Atlanta! The PCM track was outstanding, PQ was great too even if it was only on 1080i.

This one's not really a concert. Elvis Costello interviews an artist(s) who then plays/sings some pieces. I decided to mention this because the sound quality is among the best I've heard and the interviews are very well-done. You learn a lot.
Among the featured artists: Diana Krall, Norah Jones, James Taylor, The Police, Herbie Hancock, Smokey Robinson, Tony Bennett, Elton John and Renee Fleming.

Does anybody know if this is any good?

Adele: Live At The Royal Albert Hall 2011
Beautiful DTS-HD sound. Very clear instruments
Beautiful voice - she made my center speaker sound sooo big and clear
Beautiful face with creamy complexion - medyo nasobrahan lang ang false eyelashes (sorry HD reveals them all)
Effortless singing - hindi man lang pinawisan
Beautiful image quality
Gorgeous wide shots
Very interesting stories behind each song - that's where her personality finally came out
Lots of swearing - oh she's actually "pretty normal"
Absolutely emotional Someone Like You rendition
Kinda boring performer though - mostly sitting down or standing up, tapping her chest, pointing here and there to the melody of the song, drinking hot honey on the side. She seems to be capable of good dancing - if she tries more.
Baduy talaga magdamit
Pinuyat ako nito

Adele Live at the Royal Albert Hall 2011
Naunahan pala ako ni Sir Clondalkin ;D
She's a natural woman, very sensitive and pretty emotional,
brings out the best of her voice in all of her songs...
Beautiful Video,..!

So what happens to her career if she's no longer broken hearted?
Repeat viewing last night and her voice totally brought out the best from my decent HT system - parang naging high end yung HT...hehehe
The Special Feature [You, Me and Albert] was pretty interesting. Ganon pala mukha nya without the false eyelashes. And wala pang tao pero fully dressed na sya in that baduy black "lolas" dress. Pawis-pawis na bale yon before she performed. But she didnt even sweat during the concert itself...hehehe

Another reference concert but maybe not everyone's cup of tea because this is heavy instrumental jazz.
Both video and sound quality are top-notch and the performers are all masters of their instruments. Perhaps the most unusual track here is #5, when Chick Corea plays incredibly deep bass on his synthesizer - I never heard such deep musical bass before. Manginginig kwarto.

The Cure: Trilogy
After waiting for a long time, i have finally got this blu ray. Watched it last night with my wife and was just transported to a place where nostalgia, despair, and love all blended together to give a very impressive and lasting concert experience. Robert Smith was just awesome. Their performance here shows why they are one of the greatest and most influential bands ever.

The Adele live at royal Albert hall blu-ray's video quality is awful. I personally have a copy and the its really disappointing. At first test akala ko yung player yung may sira, pero it was actually the blu rays transfer.
Its like they just upscale a SD video and didn't give a proper HD clean up. All the details on her face is lost, some of the colors are dark but the audio is not so bad. I have sen better blu-ray concert and this isn't one of them.

Hall & Oates Live in Troubadour ;)

Concert for George - Video quality is so-so...
25th Anniversary Rock n Roll Hall of Fame Concerts - I was quite disappointed in this, was expecting more with regards to audio. I felt, bass was a little lacking as compared to the other concert titles.
Bon Jovi Live at Madison Square( kung avid fan ka talaga ni BJ :) - This one, same thing, I didn't like the audio quality. Too bad I had to sell it.

This wasn't my recollection of this bd concert so I watched it again. It's not the best in pq but for a concert, it's not bad either. It suffers from the typical concert problems which boil down to the fact that the prime audience is the live audience, not usually the bd viewers.
In particular, the lighting is designed for the live audience. It is normally harsh and washes out facial details. The lighting may also be blue, red, yellow, etc and that may not come out well on the bd. For audience shots, there's often insufficient light which causes grain.
The Adele bd suffers from all these difficulties but it's still not bad. There's no way that an sd can compare to it. It has much more detail, particularly shadows in dark images & this bd has a lot of that. An sd will crush the black detail. There are a few audience shots with good lighting and there's so much fine detail that you won't see in sd. Even the realism of Adele's hair is very hard to get with sd.
If you have a small screen or if your display can't properly reproduce black detail, you may not appreciate this bd. If anyone has any doubts, I'd invite him to view it in my HT. On a 133" screen, it's very easy to tell what is sd vs bd.

i dont recall this the same way sir mark
while i may not be as detailed as yuo can be, im dead sure the bd is way better even than the mkv copy I have, i tried watching it using the PJ and I dont have complaint, when we talk about the audio, this is one of the best i watched

Meron but they're very rare, usually the older titles.

For me, all of those can be watched a hundred times. They're all very good. Audio, Picture and Performance!

The 25th Anniversary presentation of The Phantom of the Opera at The Royal Albert Hall is an absolute must-have.
I saw Phantom in West End in London and this BD transports you... it's almost like being there.
-
Guys I'm no Michael Jackson fan & I dont know if the "THIS IS IT" BD is considered as a concert film but to me the SQ is amazing especially the mid-low notes. I don't usually watch concert BDs & probably this is still the 3rd concert film I watched from the Police & Adelle in the royal hall but for me the bass was awesome or jaw dropping from the start to finish ;D
-
My favorite concert BDs:
1. Adele Live at Royal Albert Hall
2. Sting Live in Berlin
3. A-ha: Ending on a High Note
-
One Direction Up All Night The Live Tour 2012
Recommended for a special reason - your daughters and your wife. ;D
Got to give credit to these lads; not only can they actually sing, their music sounds very current. But they've got to improve a LOT on the performance side (dancing, staging etc.) before they lose their youth and cuteness.
Guaranteed repeat viewing (with shrieking) for the young girls just like a Disney or Pixar movie. The few males in the audience all looked like Dads and chaperones ;D ;D ;D

Glad it's already out. I am expecting this to have even better audio quality than the "The Song Remains the Same" BD (which I just got and love). This will definitely have better video, too.
That only means one thing: this will surely be a must-buy. :)

Confirmed. This IS definitely a must have. The audio quality was one of the best I've heard.

Im really liking Coldplay Live 2012 and Paul McCartney's Live Kisses 2012
Led Zep Celebration - Stairway To Heaven lang ang alam ko but Im sure there are many 70s hard rock fans out there.
The Beach Boys 2012 - Feel good...and old.
Katherine Jenkins 2010 - she sings well but the boobs are totally distracting - in a rather nice way though.
-
1) Billy Joel Live at Shea Stadium
2) Musicares Tribute to Neil Young
3) Chris Botti in Boston
-
Taylor Swift Speak Now World Tour
-
Michael Bolton Live At The Royal Albert Hall - awesome sound quality! - and he sings really well - that is, if you like his kind of music. Listened to this a lot during the holidays together with Coldplay. Different genre, different style, but both worth having.

Finally got a chance to watch the Sade - Bring Me Home/Live 2011 concert. Wow!!! 5 stars!!!

Diana Krall Live in Rio

Recommended so that you'd see the differences:
Eagles Farewell Tour 1 Melbourne 2005 vs Eagles Live At The Capitol Centre 1977. Randy Meisner' lead on the song Take It To The Limit was absolutely phenomenal and his backing vocals on the songs like One Of These Nights and Best Of My Love were truly distinctive - parang ibong pipit! - not to undermine his equally capable replacement Timothy Schmitt. And of course, there's Don Felder in the 70s looking very much like Jesus against his replacement in 2005. Henley wearing an afro like hair, Glenn Frey's voice sounding soooo clear, and Joe Walsch looking just younger. Nobody got bald? Really? hehehe. Wife and I watched Randy Meisner's performance quite repeatedly in amazement - then compared with the more modern live versions of those songs.
Toto Falling In Between Paris 2007 vs Toto 35th Anniversary Poland 2013. Steve Lukather's live voice is (consistently) too harsh compared to the studio version - where's the soft falsetto like voice? too much studio mixing/correction? The 2013 concert seems to sound more refined but then you miss the super high octave voice of Bobby Kimball in their biggest hits like Rosanna and Africa. Hindi kaya ni Joseph Williams yung high high high notes kaya the band end up cheating through their back-up singers. Still a good concert to watch if you are a fan of Toto. Why don't they ever sing Anna and Lea during concerts?
-
Yes! I liked more randy's voice than timothy but wifey liked Timothy's.
I happened to watched those concerts just recently.
-
Excellent. Relaxing and captivating at the same time.

A MusiCares Tribute to Bruce Springsteen - excellent renditions of great songs.

Recommended or not is another matter but I watched this last night and I enjoyed na rin being a legitimate 80s boy who got lost in love back then. ;D
Air Supply Live in HK 2013.
Magaling pa rin ang boses nung dalawa. Couldn't recognize the face of the small vocalist but the distinctive voice is still there. The backing band was toooo young - those lads were most likely not enjoying what they were playing and it looked awkward - 2 very old vocalists but 4 very young musicians. Medyo naasiwa ako sa arrangement ng ibang kanta - they tried to make it sound modern but it was kinda "uncomfortable" and parang di exacto tugma sa cheesy love songs nila ;D. It has to be cheesy love song arrangement as in the original! ;D I'm still amazed sa baliktad na gitara nung matangkad and his cool voice. In any case, it still made me sing while watching so it was OK ;D

I downloaded this upon the insistence of somebody ;D ;D ;D ;D, a 11.7 Gig file. It had a DTS-HD Master audio.. And when I tried to play it, the center channel seems inactve or produces just a little sound. But when I selected "All Channel Stereo" on my receiver, it came to life.. Is it the same with the BD version? A sound mixer/engineer preference?

Watched over the week-end:
1. "Tuck & Patti Live in Holland" one of the most entertaining concerts I have watched specially if you are an acoustic music lover. I only have it in DvD. Any information if this is available in Blu-ray Disc? One concert worth investing on Blu-ray.
2. Katherine Jenkins in "Believe - Live From The O2" [2010] - Katherine Jenkins looks like a Hollywood Star with an Operatic Voice. Impressive production specially the last Song. Very Entertaining. WoW!
3. Jackie Evancho: "Music of the Movies" [2013]: - Powerful yet Angelic Voice. A nice test on how well our system can perform. Awe inspiring! Worth the purchase.

Asking this again in 2022. Hope some of you guys have seen a few that you liked.

I got a few off Apple TV - Carole King Live in Hyde Park, not bad for a 60+ grandma.
Even better though not sure if in 4K is Leonard Cohen’s Live in London. Fantastic concert for a septuagenarian, also from Apple.
