Spider-Man 2
It appears that the long standing rumors of an extended edition are finally true. Sony Pictures Home Entertainment will be releasing Spider-Man 2: Extended Edition in late April, timed to coincide with the web-slinger's latest big-screen adventure "Spider-Man 3." No details about the disc are available yet, but we anticipate more information in about a month (if that). If you can't wait that long, however, Fox-owned cable network FX will premiere the new extended cut on January 2nd, 2007 at 7:00PM EST/PST. The FX broadcast also will include all-new sneak peek footage at the upcoming sequel.

a sure double-dip for me if it'll be released in superbit also
-
I'll just for the trilogy. But I might get one also. My hands are sometimes itchy. ;D
-
wow can't wait for this. Anu kaya yung idadagdag?!
-
I wasn't expecting this one. Did Sam Raimi announced this before? Anyway, it's Spider-man, there's no reason not to double dip...
-
for me, it will depend on how long the extended footage is....
-
Are there plans of releasing an extended version of Spider-Man 1?
-
Anyway, it's Spider-man, there's no reason not to double dip...
hehe nice justification Radical ;D For all spidey fans, I'm sure they will double dip. Let's hope the "extended" scenes are really worthwhile & long :P
-
Anybody who has some latest updates for this? ;)

Before the dvd for Spider-man 2 was released, Sam Raimi promised hw was going to come out with a director's cut of the movie. This was the reason I didn't buy the dvd since I didn't want to be double-dipped. Of course I didn't know I would have to wait for so long. Leave it to the studio to tie the release of the dvd to the next installment of the series.

That's what i thought too. Also read somewhere that majority of the extended scenes would be featuring Peter & MJ talking. :-\
-
That's the logic behind the title I guess. 2.1.
;D
-
I'll still get this even if the additional scenes are just 8-minutes in length... ;)
-
That's the logic behind the title I guess. 2.1.
;D
and somewhere along the line, they'll issue a 2.2, 2.3 and so on ::)
-
well, methinks im gonna be passing on this one. :-\
but i gotta admit, that is one cool cover...
-
Just 8 mins of extended footage? Also, its 2-disc but the announced special features looks minimal...I guess I'll have to wait to read some reviews before deciding if it's worth the double-dip.

It's only $14.99 from Amazon as of to date. I find it cheap so I pre-ordered already. ;)

A list of the extended footage as posted in filmick.blogspot.com :
Peter's Birthday Party is slightly extended.
Peter and Mary Jane's backyard conversation is slightly extended.
Spider-Man's awkward converation in the elevator is now made up from completely different takes.
Mary Jane and Louise's conversation in the shoe store is a new addition.
Peter's visit to the campus doctor is slightly extended.
Jameson is seen trying on the Spider-Man suit.
The Battle between Doc Ock and Spider-Man after the bank robbery has a new scene added - a fight in an office.
The train sequence has a small addition during Doc Ock and Spider-Man battle on top of the train.
All of this adds up to around 8 minutes of additional footage.
-
Probably only the folowing two mentioned scenes worth looking into:
-The Battle between Doc Ock and Spider-Man after the bank robbery- a fight in an office.
-The train sequence has a small addition during Doc Ock and Spider-Man battle on top of the train.
But all in all only 8 minutes pa...is this worth double or triple dip? Perhaps it's meant for die-hard spidey fans lang.. ;D
-
Yeah... like me! ;D

Sir pchin, this title will be released on April 17 pa... :)
Don't know though if any of our US based members have already seen the extended cut on cable?
-
Opss...my bad! Tnx Jas for the correction ;D Guess my curiousity get the better of me.
-
From the looks of it i think it's worth it. :) But will they ever release this on HD or BD?
-
Good point James. ;) Now it's a matter of time & to decide whether to get the SD-DVD or or wait for the HD release (hopefully with the extended edition) :)
P.S. Spiderman is under SONY so if there's a HD release it will be exclusive to Blu-ray :-[ By then, this will justify us being format NEUTRAL ;D
-
This movie is one of the reason why I'll be going for Blu-Ray in the near future and not HD-DVD... but since it's from Sony, does that leave me a choice? Anyway, it's still LOTR Trilogy that will be my biggest deciding factor on what format to go to...
-
So the best choice for us is to wait for Blu-ray/HD-DVD combo player. I want Matrix trilogy/LOTR trilogy,Spider-man. :)
-
Yes! Yes! Gotta wait for that Blu-Ray/HD-DVD combo player! LOTR, Spider-Man, Matrix, Star Wars, Pirates, & Harry Potter are on top of my list!
-
Many new comers will be torned btw the two HD formats once Spiderman HD is released...even myself will certainly turn NEUTRAL by then :P

A review is up at IGN (http://dvd.ign.com/articles/772/772560p1.html):
"Overall, the additions do really enhance the Spider-Man 2 experience, and for my money make this the definitive version of the film. In this context, even Aunt May's interminable speech about what it means to be a hero - which I believe is still going on as I type this - seems to feel relatively natural, instead of being a screenwriter's soliloquy purge. By and large, Spider-Man 2.1 is itself a terrific addition to the growing canon of Spidey DVDs on the market. Even if you choose not to buy it, give it a rent; it's one of the first cases in memory of a Double Dip that truly allows you to have your cake - and not mind watching it, too."
-
Just read the review and I'm glad it's a good one...
-
BTW guy, just curuous, did someone acquire an R1? just curious on how it looks like? how about the features? does mirrror the earlier released R3?
-
I did acquire the R1 release, though I haven't received it yet.
-
finally got my own copy ;D
but sadly the slipcase of the r1 copy doesn't have that sleek shiny cover that the r3 release has.
