"Bilbo Baggins, Gandalf and the rest of Middle Earth are making the switch to the small screen after Amazon announced it has committed to a multi-series adaptation inspired by JRR Tolkien’s classic fantasy novels.
The television adaptation will tell new stories based in the period preceding The Fellowship of the Ring, the novel that provided the basis for the first part of Peter Jackson’s film trilogy."

‘Lord of the Rings’ TV Series Reportedly Set to Follow Young Aragorn
https://www.slashfilm.com/lord-of-the-rings-tv-series-aragorn/
Amazon’s very expensive Lord of the Rings TV series might focus on the days of young Aragorn, the character played by Viggo Mortensen in the films. At least, that’s the rumor floating around.
Up until now, we’ve had very few details on Amazon’s Lord of the Rings TV series. In truth, all we really knew was that the show was going to be very, very expensive. Now, we might finally have some sort of idea regarding the story. TheOneRing.net (a longtime source of reliable scuttlebutt related to Middle-earth) reports that the show’s first season is going to focus on a young Aragorn.
-
I hope that they don't turn Aragorn into another whiny teen (as what Hollywood tends to do) just like what was done in The Shannara Chronicles.

Amazon Hires Star Trek 4 Scribes for Lord of the Rings TV Series
Amazon officially announced at their TCA panel today that Star Trek 4 writers JD Payne and Patrick McKay have been hired to bring the streaming service’s ambitious Lord of the Rings TV series to life.
“The rich world that J.R.R. Tolkien created is filled with majesty and heart, wisdom and complexity,” the writing partners said in a statement. “We are absolutely thrilled to be partnering with Amazon to bring it to life anew. We feel like Frodo, setting out from the Shire, with a great responsibility in our care — it is the beginning of the adventure of a lifetime.”
Payne and McKay have already penned the in-development Star Trek 4 plus Disney’s long in-the-works Jungle Cruise film starring Dwayne Johnson and Emily Blunt.

Amazon Confirms the Setting of Its Lord of the Rings Series
The Lord of the Rings original series may be a few years away, but it’s easily one of Amazon’s most anticipated projects. Peter Jackson’s LOTR trilogy is still beloved by fans, and there’s not a lot of demand for a rehash. Fortunately, Amazon’s Lord of the Rings series is going to focus on a rarely explored era of J.R.R. Tolkien’s Middle-Earth.
Via Entertainment Weekly, Amazon’s LOTR twitter account revealed a new map of Middle-Earth, and confirmed that the show will be set in the Second Age. That places approximately 3,000 years of history between the series and the beginning of LOTR.
Casual fans may not realize it, but Jackson’s Fellowship of the Rings actually depicted the end of the Second Age, when the last alliance of elves and men confronted Sauron’s forces. The Second Age covered nearly 3,441 years, and it began after the banishment of Morgoth, the dark lord before Sauron. There’s a lot of story potential in that time, including the rise of Sauron, the creation of the One Ring, and the emergence of the Ringwraiths.
Amazon’s map also includes Númenor, an island kingdom of men that was lost beneath the sea to a cataclysm. In Tolkien’s mythos, Sauron was captured by the king of Númenor, but he slowly corrupted the kingdom from within. Only the intervention of the deity, Eru, prevented Sauron’s plans and led to the destruction of Númenor.
Production has yet to begin for Amazon’s Lord of the Rings series, but is expected to premiere in 2021.

‘The Lord Of The Rings’: J.A. Bayona To Direct Amazon Series
Amazon Studios’ high-profile The Lord of the Rings TV series has made a key hire. Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom director Juan Antonio (J.A.) Bayona has been tapped to direct the first two episodes of the big-scope fantasy drama, following in the footsteps of Peter Jackson, who directed the feature adaptations of the classic J.R.R. Tolkien novels.
Set in Middle-earth, the series will explore new storylines preceding Tolkien’s The Fellowship of the Ring.
“J.R.R. Tolkien created one of the most extraordinary and inspiring stories of all time, and as a lifelong fan it is an honor and a joy to join this amazing team,” said Bayona. “I can’t wait to take audiences around the world to Middle-earth and have them discover the wonders of the Second Age, with a never before seen story.”
Bayona also will executive produce alongside his producing partner Belén Atienza.

Amazon's 'Lord of the Rings' Series Loses Will Poulter
Amazon's big-budget Lord of the Rings series will have to replace one of its lead actors.
Will Poulter, who joined the project in September, has had to drop out of the project due to schedule conflicts. Sources tell The Hollywood Reporter his deal never officially closed, and his casting was never confirmed by the streamer. Amazon declined comment.
The nature of his role was being kept under wraps, but he was said to be playing a lead role in the show based on J.R.R. Tolkien's fantasy novels.

‘Lord of the Rings’ Series Taps Morfydd Clark as Young Galadriel
“His Dark Materials” star Morfydd Clark has landed a lead role in Amazon’s upcoming “Lord of the Rings” series.
She joins a cast that includes Markella Kavenagh, Joseph Mawle and Maxim Baldry. Sources say Clark will play young Galadriel, the character famously portrayed by Cate Blanchett in Peter Jackson’s “Lord of the Rings” and “The Hobbit” films. This would mark one of the first major characters from the book or film announced for the show.
Amazon declined to comment. Reps for Mawle did not immediately respond to Variety’s request for comment.

Reps for Amazon and Aramayo declined comment.
English actor Aramayo played Young Ned Stark on seasons six and seven of HBO’s fantasy blockbuster series Game Of Thrones.

Amazon has suspended the production for their highly-anticipated series adaptation of J.R.R. Tolkien’s The Lord of the Rings, currently filming in New Zealand where tough border controls have been recently enforced. The announcement was relayed by GSR Productions through a memo where staff said “there are no clear answers to when we will resume.” The temporary production hiatus is, of course, in line with Hollywood’s efforts to combat the spreading of COVID-19 (formerly named as Coronavirus) as the pandemic continues to affect the world.

Official Synopsis:
“Amazon Studios’ forthcoming series brings to screens for the very first time the heroic legends of the fabled Second Age of Middle-earth’s history. This epic drama is set thousands of years before the events of J.R.R. Tolkien’s The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings, and will take viewers back to an era in which great powers were forged, kingdoms rose to glory and fell to ruin, unlikely heroes were tested, hope hung by the finest of threads, and the greatest villain that ever flowed from Tolkien’s pen threatened to cover all the world in darkness. Beginning in a time of relative peace, the series follows an ensemble cast of characters, both familiar and new, as they confront the long-feared re-emergence of evil to Middle-earth. From the darkest depths of the Misty Mountains, to the majestic forests of the elf-capital of Lindon, to the breathtaking island kingdom of Númenor, to the furthest reaches of the map, these kingdoms and characters will carve out legacies that live on long after they are gone.”

Oscar-Winning ‘The Lord Of The Rings’ Howard Shore In Talks To Compose Music For Amazon Studios’ Middle Earth-Set TV Series
While neither writer/director Peter Jackson nor the original cast are part of Amazon Studios’ The Lord of the Ring series, Deadline hears there may well be an important point of familiarity. Howard Shore, whose work on the Middle Earth trilogy won him three Oscars, is in talks to compose the music for the TV series.
This is an important development for a series that carries a reported cost of $465 million for its first season, making it the most expensive TV series of all time. The so-far untitled series based on J.R.R. Tolkien’s classic novels, recently wrapped principal photography on Season 1, and is scheduled to premiere on Prime Video Sept. 2, 2022.
