BOATMAN was critically acclaimed when it was released during the ECP days. One of the few skin flicks that managed to hold on its own along with SCORPIO NIGHTS, VIRGIN FOREST and ISLA.
I liked also Aguiluz' RIZAL SA DAPITAN without being overbudget, and the Helen Gamboa domestic drama about FLOR CONTEMPLACION.
-
We talk about Brocka's artistic descendants, and names have been thrown about with abandon, but Tikoy I think more than anyone working now captures the urgency and verite quality of Brocka's best work.
And I do think Pete Lacaba's best work is with Aguiluz, not Brocka.
-
Did Pete Lacaba also wrote BAGONG BAYANI? How would you rate BALWEG, Noel?
-
Have not seen Balweg. Yes, Pete wrote Bagong Bayani--I think it's the best thing either of them have ever done. And I saw it again this 2006. Still holds up.
-
It's gritty, man.
Nora is a great actress, but Lamangan should learn from Aguiluz' BAGONG BAYANI.
-
I'll tell you this much--Bayan Ko was brave, Orapronobis intense and brilliantly paced and structured, but Bagong Bayani moved me more than either films.
-
Between KAPIT SA PATALIM & ORAPRONOBIS, I'll choose ORAPRONOBIS. Only people with heart of stone will not be moved by the ending.
Heartbreaking and powerful!
Yeah, BAGONG BAYANI is Aguiluz best film.
-
I'd even go so far as to say Helen Gamboa's turn as Flor is one of the ten finest in Philippine cinema.
-
was boatman ever released on video? I would like to get hold of a copy of that film. I let go of my Segurita DVD, the disc was freezing on some parts. Had it replaced. Still on the hunt. :P
