Title: Analog audio on an HDMI receiver
Post by: rzlorayes on May 04, 2012 at 08:11 PM
Hello Everybody,

Pardon my ignorance but I'm thinking of buying an HDMI home theater receiver. What bothers me is if I connect my media player to play an avi file using HDMI but the soundtrack is analog, will the HDMI cable still carry the analog sound or do I have to plug analog RCA cables for the sound?

Thanks very much for nay help in this!

Ric

ric there is no such thing as analog soundtrack.
hdmi cable carry both audio and video so no need for extra rca if your avr support hdmi connection/s

No need to use an rca cable. The HDMI cable will also carry the audio signal.

HDMI carries audio.

Note some media players can output to both HDMI and stereo out (L+R) so if you have an old receiver you want to receive output from your media player, check this out first if it already satisfies your audio requirement, but then a new AV reciever is the way to go long term.
