Sale of the month! It's primarily a Viva event though with all 1-disc and 2-disc Fox titles re-priced to P299 (except for the newest releases). Sale will last until August and will run in all major DVD retail outlets. Picked up the following:
- Dodgeball
- Road to Perdition
- De-Lovely
They were busy with the stickers when I walked in. I saw them marking down lots of Fox titles including:- X-Men and X-Men 2
- Star Wars: The Phantom Menace
- Passion of the Christ
- Minority Report
- 28 Days Later
- Daredevil: Director's Cut

No clear answer on how long this markdown is going to last. The Astroplus guy I was talking to said it could last longer than a month. I'll contact Viva directly for details.

They only started re-pricing at lunchtime. Good thing we decided to eat first before dropping by. Don't know why they started so late or why they didn't inform you that they were going to mark down the Fox titles.

saw some of these titles w/ their Php299.00 marked down price at astroPLUS SM City Cebu after my attention was called to it by my suking saleslady, so i guess this is a nationwide SALE...... 8)

These are the real deal just marked down! Not unlike magnavision's 299 discs which were basically stripped down. So parang di talaga naka mura. Man! I'm surely gona buy at least the 2-disc editions. Mas sulit yung amount for the double discs.
Bought I, Robot. Gona look out for...

C-Interactive? I don't touch them. Being fullscreen transfers is enough reason for me to not purchase them.

Sa video city ATC nandun sa rack sa labas sa tabi ng entrance yung mga sale may viva sticker na 299. Ok na ok yung i-robot may dts pa kaya binili ko na. 2 kopya na lang daw natitira sa kanila. Yung bad boys 2 columbia ata yun e pero sigurado ako 299 price nya may sticker siya.Ang labo nga e kase may ice age sila dun sa loob yung 2 disc edition din mahal pa tapos may on sale sila sa labas same 2 disc ed 299 lang.Piangkumpara ko walang pinagkaiba. Nung tinanong ko bakit ganun kase daw kakasale lang nila hindi pa lahat nalalabas meaning marami pang isesale. Abang na mga adiks! ;D

Actually naghahanap din ako ng The Day After Tomorrow 2-Disc Edition. Went the rounds of video stores. Di yata kasali sa sale yun. But alam ko nirelease din siya kasabay ng I, Robot.

Ano ba yung dual-sided? Kasi yung nakita kong disc is may print yung isang side. And the other one is the playable side.
About yung Ice Age, sa Astro Megamall kasama sa sale yung Extreme Edition.

Yes, what is Dual-sided you mean. I know dual sided titles are Ben-hur, Superman and Universal Soldier. Double sided is DVD-10, DVD-18 & DVD-14. Most of the title today is only single sided. I think you mean to say dual-layer. Am I correct? :)

No, it's one disc that's dual-layer. You actually have more special features in the original (theatrical version) two-disc release.

I went to a different Astro, Videocity, and Odyssey this morning and only saw the regular edition of Ice Age. What's the difference between the Extreme Edition and the regular edition? The one I saw didn't have "extreme edition" written anywhere on the box but it does have 2 DVDs inside.

The original R3 release of Ice Age I bought was a single-disc (dual-layer) version, so I'm not sure about what you saw, upinsmoke.
O Rockwell still has several copies of the Extreme Edition. The following sites give the differences between the two releases (some special features are unique to each edition) :

Are the deleted scenes from the 2-disc widescreen edition simply incorporated into the film to complete the director's cut? Or does it bear new footage? Thanks.

It integrates an entire sub-plot back into the storyline which adds about 30 minutes to the film.

What's the difference between the CONAN The Barbarian DVD on sale (Blue cover) and the CONAN 2-disc special ed ? (Ochre/yellow cover) I looked at the features and they look the same. ???

The rest of the titles are not that good. Among the big Fox releases which are notably missing (or probably out of stock) are Day After Tomorrow, AVP, ID4, and Star Wars Episode 1 and 2. Hopefully, they extend the sale until November when Episode III comes out priced at P299! (wishful thinking).
Kudos also to Warner coz it seems they have really brought down the prices of their new releases to P499 (e.g. Constantine, A Very Long Engagement), both are 2-discs.
As for Magnavision, I don't know what happened to them. They started releasing those awful P299 versions. Even their latest releases such as Hitch are priced P475 but packaged in DVD5 just like their P299 counterparts. Seems like a major marketing blunder.

I saw X-Men 1 sa 299 sale nga. But is this a 2-disc edition? Ang alam ko kasi X-Men 1.5 ang double disc. And yung X-Men 1.5 hindi yata kasama sa sale.

The earlier single disc x-men and the double disc x-men 1.5 are priced similarly at their regular 750. Have been waiting for these to go on sale. I think I already got the double disc x-men2 for 350 last May. They should have both on sale by this time.

Hello... question lang regarding Moulin Rouge. 2 discs ba talaga sya kahit na walang nakalagay sa label nya na "2 discs"? Or dapat meron? Hindi ko binili kasi akala ko single disc lang... or baka single disc nga lang...

There are two versions of Moulin Rouge available locally, a single and a two-disc edition. It should be indicated at the back that it has two discs. I'm not sure about the single disc edition, but the two disc edition has a DTS track.

2 disc ang Moulin Rouge ko, but I bought this last December during the P333 sale at Podium. It's in a red box and the back says "commentary" and "behind the curtain" and a little dts logo. The box is also heavier.

Actually, wala nakasulat sa box ko na "2-disc" pero 2 discs ang laman. Kung mabigat, baka 2-disc nga yan kasi walang paper inserts naman sa loob.... kaya bakit pa mabigat?

i got my copy yesterday of moulin rouge and its a 2 disc set. nde lang indicated sa packaging pati yung whitenoise dvd 2-disc set din but the packaging is not quite good.

Bakit nga naman iba iba yung mga titles included sa Fox sale for each store? Daredevil Director's Cut is on sale sa Astro Podium but not sa Astro Mega nga.

Sabe ko, kala ko buong July sale. He called someone and confirmed that the sale is up to the end of the month. I paid P299 for the I, Robot DVD. ::)
Dodgeball Unrated Edition was not part of the sale according to the same clerk.

I went to Video City, and Dodgeball wasn't tagged. I asked the salesgirl why it wasn't part of the sale (since I remembered firewired said he got this title on sale), and she said the memo from VIVA stated that ALL Fox titles released six months ago and older were to be included. I asked her to check the computer for when Dodgeball was released. A few clicks later...
...I got it for 299. :D

Videocity at ATC is the one near the cinemas right? i always pass by it.. i never go inside because the place is so small and crowded. i thought they only have few dvd selections and more of vcds. kala ko nga nung una rentals lang eh. ;D but now that you've mentioned it, i think i'm gonna go check it out. ;D

What I have are double discs. These are both special editions. I think the Die hard 1 R3 is about the same as the 2-disc 5-star edition in R1. They went on sale last year for P350 at astro. Try to feel the case and see if it's a bit heavier than most single disc titles. Ofcourse the prints should say if it's double disc. And you can always ask the counter. They're definitely a steal for 350 at that time.

Yup, DH2 is also 2-disc. Unless they've downgraded it like other 2-disc titles. The Hitchcock thriller Stranger on the Train is also 2-disc and was on sale last May for 299.

Before that I saw one in the SM Department Store but since there was small tatter on the plastic seal, I hid it just to be sure. After I was told that Viva has pulled out DODGEBALL from the P299 list, I went back to the department store and bought the one I hid hehee.
So the moral of the story is..if you can't find a better bargain at Astrovision, go look for it at the SM Department Store..
Regarding DIE HARD 1 and 2 being bargained now, although 2-disc, they have actually replaced the first R3 2-disc issues which are all in DTS..Now the regretful part is I sold my copies a long time ago..

To those who got Moulin Rouge 2 discs for 299:
There are 15 easter eggs on the 2nd disc as listed on dvdtalk. I can only find the first 9. The last 6 are found on the still galleries of The Design and Marketing. The problem is I can't access these still galleries, it only shows how to access the still gallery. But when you press the next or previous button on the remote, nothing happens! Can someone confirm if you have the same problem. Thanks.

i got my dodgeball unrated at the newly opened video city in festival mall. At the other video city outlets and astrovisions, this sells rin for P750. I think they just mixed the unrated one up with the medyo retarded P299 edition.
i grabbed it agad and good thing meron pa silang isa pang copy kasi gusto rin ng kasama ko!

Gulat nga ako. Di ko alam if they made a mistake. Among the new titles I saw were, 28 Days Later, Man on Fire nga, Taxi...eh ang alam ko mga recent releases lang yun. didn't get any though. I'm concentrating on the 2-disc editions.

To those who got Moulin Rouge 2 discs for 299:
There are 15 easter eggs on the 2nd disc as listed on dvdtalk. I can only find the first 9. The last 6 are found on the still galleries of The Design and Marketing. The problem is I can't access these still galleries, it only shows how to access the still gallery. But when you press the next or previous button on the remote, nothing happens! Can someone confirm if you have the same problem. Thanks.

I was able to purchase Daredevil's Director's Cut at Astro Podium during the first 2 days ng sale. Sadly, siguro mga after 4 days ng sale, they pulled it out. I don't know why.
As for X-Men 1.5, I've been searching for this also. Never pa ko nakakita. Meron sa Astro SM Makati but at the regular price of 750.

I bought one at Music 1 in Grenebelt 3. Kaso yung Movie Disc (Disc 1) experiences split second pauses/freezing. Specifically at chapters 3 and 6 when I scanned it. How's your copy?

pre, hindi naman sa ginagawang bida ang AstroVision or AstroPlus dito, it's just that merong mga instances na nakasale na mga DVDs sa AStro stores only and not sa other stores. Exclusive ika nga. kaya mas kilala talaga ang Astro stores dito sa community natin. Yung si ASTRO nga, advance pang sinasabi sa admins natin about the sale para makapagprepare ang mga members for the sale. SA tingin mo bakit nauubusan ng copies sa mga tindahan kung di tiwala ang mga members sa tindahan na to? Pero syempre, everybody is entitled to buy sa others stores. Kumbaga meron choices. kung wala sa AStro stores, hanap sa iba. hehehe.

Just want to inform in this forum na wala akong galit sa astro stores infact very accomodating pa nga yung ibang sales person na nag aassist sa akin when i'm looking for specific tittle. Napuna ko lang na minsan meron ding sales sa ibang video store kaya masaya ang dvd hunting kasi nalaman na siguro nila na may following na ang astro pag dating sa mga sales so they try to make habol na rin para may sales din sila o mapansin din store nila. Sa mga marketting strategy nila walng ibang nakikinabang kundi tayo.

Personally, kaya ako sa astro nagpupunta kasi they specialize in movies eh. I go to southmall, festival & sm sucat branches lagi and almost always naman updated sila and they have more than 1 copy just in case di ko gusto yung naka-display. They can still improve on the knowledge ng clerks nila but still mas may alam naman sila compared sa sales staff of odyssey, radio city and other music stores.
Second ko yung video city, kasi sometimes the ones na wala sa astro, meron sila. Nabili ko nga yung hindi 299 sa astro like dodgeball unrated edition, ice age extreme cool edition, etc sa Video City. After i-sure na P299 lang yung mga dvds and bayaran sa counter, nagcomment na lang ako na P750 yun sa ibang stores, hehe. Hindi na naman ako hinabol... >:D
Since meron rin namang odyssey, radio city, department store record bar, etc sa mga malls, I visit these na rin. Meron naman sila na dvds i usually miss sa astro, kaso pa-isa-isa na lang ang stock. Unahan na lang, ika nga. Sometimes, I feel na gusto ko lang yung hunt compared sa actual DVD itself. Binili ko nga agad yung Ready to Rumble just because I saw it sa Tower Records ATC for P299, and hindi ko pa ito nakikita sa ibang stores. After browsing the disc sa bahay, parang ay, ayaw ko na nun....

Wall Street: Special Edition contained a pleasant surprise. The only features listed on the package are the commentary and trailer, but when I tried it out at home, I learned that the disc itself actually also contains the 47-minute retrospective documentary "Money Never Sleeps," featuring recent interviews with Stone, Douglas, Sheen & Sheen and a ton of behind-the-scenes information.
I definitely got my Php 299 worth. :)

mga sirs, anybody who knows the return policy of Astro? i'm used to buying sale dvds for my personal collection. since i do trust astro and never have i encountered damaged/unreadable disc, i do browse the disc after a couple of months.
it's just so unfortunate that one of the dvds i bought last May (yes May po) sale at astro glorietta cannot be read. i just browsed the dvd this weekend. although P299 lang, pero nanghihinayan ako.

wag naman sana. napansin ko nga merong iba pang mga titles na nagkamali sa tagging. u think ok lang bilhin even if we know na mali yung tag? sana magkamali din sila ng tagging sa r1 lion king 1 1/2. >:D

Was able to buy Moulin Rouge 2 disc edition from Video City Sta Lucia. They were kind enough to check it first if 2 discs before I paid for it! Saw 2disc eds of IRobot and Ice Age also.

During the 1st week of the promo, lots of titles were included...even Dodgeball Unrated Edition. As the sale progressed, some titles that were marked down to 299, were suddenly excluded.

At Astro Plus, I saw the Ice Age displayed at the P299 Sale section but it has no price tag like the rest. I asked one saleslady how much is it, and she asked it at the counter. The lady behind the counter said it's P750, then after a minute, the saleslady approached me and said it's P299 na lang. When I was about to pay it in the counter, their computer registered the item as P900. I said I won't buy it at that price. THen, they gave it to me at P299. Ang gulo.
I also I, Robot at AstroPlus at P750. Then when I checked their two-packs and three-packs Sale items, I saw the same 2disc I, Robot packed with Patton and priced at P500 for both. I asked the lady behind the counter why is it like that . She said it's because the two-packs were sale items. Huh?????
So I asked to checked their record if maybe I, Robot is on sale at P299, they said it's not.
So I went to VideoCity and found one that is on sale.
