Correct me if i'm wrong. But I think PS3 is already multisystem. So no problem if your TV is PAL or NTSC. Also you can get the PS3 at a cheaper price in Hong Kong. I got my 40gig PS3 last January at less than 15k.

PS3 40gb normally costs 550sgd (15.5kphp) in Singapore. And there are shops which sells cheaper.

my friend who just came from HK said it is now selling at 14K there, 17K with two games. EYO in Ghills is apparently selling it at 18.5K. hope prices go lower :)

if the lowest resolution indicated is 525 or 576i/p instead of 480 then you have a PAL system PS3. Tho' box says its NTSC, my unit is really an Asian-PAL but i dont have any problem naman cos i have a multi-system display.
I think you can find the options under Settings > Display Settings > Video Output Settings.

What are stored in the hard disks of PS3s? Do you really need 80GB or 40GB is already more than enough? Can we replace the hard disk to bigger capacity ones?

the HD is used to save game files, games saves essentially, mine is stuffed with my MP3 collection, movie trailers/demos from PSN, xvid movies, home pictures, yup you can use any 2.5" SATA notebook drives

Am now in Singapore, just came from Sim Lim mall today and the PS3 20gig was selling for SGD 415 (x P30 current exchange) - that equates to under P12,500 only for the 20G.
40Gig was selling for SGD 485 ~ approximately P 14,600. Wow, prices diving. However, opted to just buy and independent BD player (Sharp Aquos) for around SGD 650 ~ under P20k, due to the PS3 lens wear & tear issue being tackled in a different thread. The PS3 20G was really tempting though... ::)

The unit I got from EYO (P18K+) only came with one controller. No games. That's the standard pckg for P18K+ units.

Yes, the warranty concerns do vary.
The shop where I got my unit, however, gives a 90-day no fuzz replacement of the unit for (factory) defects. For service concerns, just bring the unit to them and they will be the one fix it. I had a friend who had his unit serviced doon, mabilis at malinis ang trabaho. ;D
It's good to know that the shop owner is there everyday.... so any concerns, you can bring it up with him directly, unlike other shops where you don't even see the owner and transact only with their personnel.

IMO this is a big advantage when you are living in the states, but when you live in the Philippines its a hassle and very costly to send it to the states if something went wrong. For the cost of the shipment back and forth I will just buy the replacement lens here at 5 thou pesos ( this is usually the prob naman.) The best to me (warranty wise ) is to buy nalang in hong kong bec Phils is just so close one can take a cebu pacific flight for around 6 to 8 thou pesos (fare only, round trip), have excellent roast goose, wonton noodle etc ;D while dropping it off,,then buy some dvds pa and come home that same night :D..On the date of the pickup of your unit at Sony hong kong, do the same thing hehe..Total cost maybe 16 thou for 2 trips, enjoy pa the excellent food, dvds, etc. hehe..I know you can just go there for one day unless their immigration won't allow it, if they don't allow it then one just have to enjoy Gloria Maris wonton noodle and get it fixed in virramall. ;D

A brandnew ps3 lens is only 1.5k, if u could replace it with urself you can save lots of money and time...
with regards to PS3 warranty here in the Phils.
Service lang talaga binibigay ng local sellers dto...hassle pa rin, u have to wait coz they have to send it to HK to have it fixed which I find it impractical at hindi mo pa alam kung paano kinalikot yung console mo....
coz ang gagaling na ng mga gumagawa dto sa atin ...at it would only take a day or two or sometimes hours lang to have it fix
to all future buyers of PS3 wag kayong magpadala sa dilemma na iniwan ng Xbox 360 (b4 the falcon version) not all games consoles are the same.
you have to face the fact na pumalpak talaga Microsoft dun...
look at Nintendo Consoles, Sega etc...lamog na ang itsura at sira sira na ang mga controllers gumagana pa rin.
SONY ang binibili nyo, it's a trusted brand way way b4 hindi pa tyo pinapanganak..
Consider also the fact that what you are buying is somehow future proof (crossing my finger coz lapit ng 1440p pero over na toh if you would ask me u will need a digital eye to appreciate this)
I suggest if u have the means naman GO GO GO buy one anywhere basta mura at brandnew and enjoy it ...don't try canvasing too much basta under 19k bilhin mo na...try to consider those people whose who bought nung unang lumabas yan just Imagine ang matitipid ninyo 2day...tsambahan din kasi yan since it's electronics

Sir purpose ko lang naman sa pagbili ko ng PS3 sa u.s yun warranty (2yrs). Sa games naman wala naman region pareho lang. Tapos kung masira naman yun ps3 wala naman problema sa shipment dahil meron ako kilala na pilot halos every month meron siya flight sa u.s. Yun sa bluray movie dun din manggaling yun disc kasi mas mura. Re: dun sa DVD meron po ako pioneer dv600 para sa mga dvd movies ko..

AFAIK 16-17K ang brand new wii ngayon...some shops still bundle their PS3 with games or a DS3 kaya lumalagpas pa rin ng 20K some for the console only is 18-20K

Ingat sa pagbili ng PS3 here.
i bought a PS3 at a store in Park Square. I asked..."NTSC ba ito?". Sabi ng salesman, "Yes, sir." So i hand over my cash. I get home, plug it in..and lo and behold..."Resolution: Standard(PAL)". Leche!
Next day...I enter the store at the first hour they are open. I say, "Bakit PAL ito?" Sabi ng saleslady, "Ay, sir, hindi po ba sinabi sa inyo na PAL?". Leche talaga!
The reason i asked kung NTSC yung unit before I bought it was because my TV at home is not multi-system. NTSC lang ang plasma ko.
LEche talaga.
So, i ask the saleslady again, "Makakakuha ba ako ng NTSC na PS3?". Sagot niya, "Yes, sir. Pero, next week pa po siguro. Hahanap pa po kami sa ibang branch sa malls kung may unit pa. Silver po ang kulay. Ok lang po ba?". So I say, naturally, "Ok lang basta NTSC." I leave my number and they promise to get back to me by Monday or Tuesday of the following week.
Cut to...
Wednesday na bukas, and I'm still waiting for my NTSC PS3 unit. Leche flan!

Pardon my ignorance but do HDTVs still have NTSC and PAL standards? I think I read here somewhere that HD resolution TVs don't have that problem anymore because scanning lines are not used in producing the picture on the screen. I'm now confused.

A day later went to the shop and the girl behind the counter said they just got in there shipment and offered the asian version 80 gig for 19,500 peso. Tried to negotiate a bit more and she said the owner just walked in and to speak with him. He pointed to a pile of boxes and gave me the deal of 19,000 flat. Great deal. Am very happy with it.
3 month warranty and life time service!!!

I was told that these new versions Asian 80 gig are NOT backward compatible with PS2. I can not verify it as I am only using PS3 gmes.

iirc the only reason they allowed backward compatibility on old models is because of the limited titles.
now that there are a lot of titles for ps3, there is no reason for them to sell sku with backward compatibility :)

Which is actually better as this same backward compatibility was blamed for many lens issues in the past.

i agree .. thats why when i got my ps3 and was informed that the lens wouldnt be covered by the warranty, i just said "basta brandnew, walang problema sakin :D "
besides ps2 games are not native hd anyways :D
